    Great ideas. For any designers or architects that don't get on a job site, DO IT! Early on in my practice, I actually built a couple of houses to be sure that my designs weren't just "pretty pictures" that someone else had to sort out. It has been very rewarding to be able to discuss projects with all the trades and to be knowledgeable about each of their disciplines. It gives the client and the subs confidence in your designs and ideas. Great video, Eric.

      @30by40  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks, Rob...! I couldn't agree more. As a young professional, I was always the most intimidated by visiting the job site, I was green and I knew very little about how to put a building together. Some 25 years later, I take every chance I can get. Learning opportunities, problem-solving, the chance to improve our design, and the depth of construction knowledge carried forward via the tradespeople we interact with makes them so rewarding. Thanks for watching!

    Great content! Being well organized and prepared made the task even more enjoyable.
    I used to wear a waist bag in my site visits, so I had handy my measure tape, pencil , little note pad etc, while I was climbing walls and making measurements.

    An RWU Architecture graduate here as well. Love your channel and ideas. One of the things I recently made for my site visits: I took an old Star D camera tripod and mounted a piece of plywood so I can binder clip a pad to it so I have a mobile "desk". Going to modify it slightly so there is a small storage area under the pad for different pens/markers and a small rain cover. Keep the great videos coming!

    I must say this is your best video from technical perspective. Really well composed. It's so satisfying to watch a video like this where the background music doesn't destroy the narrator's voice. 10/10 Eric!

    I like the small things you have that I wouldn't have thought of myself like the little sticker, so smart idea instead of marking everything by hand with either your name or company name, very nice detail! Although not an architecture student I might be going into a 3D artist program focusing on rooms, furniture etc.

    Sometimes the importance of site visits and the interaction between the actual builders and craftspersons are often underestimated. lt is one of the best learning experiences for an architect...my best teacher was 'Eddie', a building supervisor who l would often bounce up on the larger projects. His wealth of knowledge was critical to the smooth progress of the site works. His ability to forsee gaps in the documentation provided to him, was amazing.
    Thanks...for reminding us of those moments and lessons that were freely given by all and to all on site.
    'Be always prepared'...was one of his most potent statements and advice.
    John Ferraz Architect.

      Thanks for sharing, John...totally agree on the invaluable experience we gain on the job site. I really look forward to meeting and learning from tradespeople during construction. Learning the art of building can't be taught in the classroom.

    You have the dream architect lifestyle I aspire to achieve! No boss, (except the client ) just making content, AND working. This is the life I was sold in uni and after everything that has happened I realize that this lifestyle is incredibly rare. I That being said, the digital revolution is making communicating our ideas and making architecture look enticing. You're like an architect/influencer with the 360 camera/drone and all the other gear you carry around 😂

    • @30by40
      @30by40  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Jasmine...Thanks for the kind words + support, I appreciate it! I think the reason it's perceived as 'rare' or 'unattainable' is because it requires a lot of effort to make content. My system relies on working with one client at a time and using that work as the basis for the content I make. It really does work! Nice vid, always enjoy them and your video style.
    Recently got myself a new bag too and really had a hard time finding the best one! (took about 4 tries and days of searching)
    Every time you speak about Notion I'm kinda surprised/ worried, so I have to ask:
    Aren't you concerned about data safety (your personal data, your business data and your client data), Notions isn't end-to-end encrypted, notion only encrypts their own servers, so everyone with access to the server (notion employees, hackers, ...) can fully access and edit your data.
    Isn't that a huge risk to take for a simple commodity like a planning service?

    I see you use Notion for your corporate documents. aren't you afraid of losing stuff? How do you make a backup in case Notion crashes? There isn't an efficient way to export your notion stuff to an external harddrive, or is there?
