    Thank you for this. It’s great to see Larry in this role. The idea of Bird, Magic & MJ on one team would take away from the excitement & joy of victory. They took each other to greater heights by competing against each other.

    I had to smile watching Larry duck his head coming through the door 😍. Ambassador is a great word for Larry. Unlike some of the other OG players, Larry doesn’t give interviews to promote himself or to make money. All of his post-playing career interviews were done to promote the game of basketball and the NBA, itself. The only other interviews and appearances were either for charities, ISU, the city of Terre Haute, or Indiana basketball. He always speaks well of his former teammates and opponents. Most of all, you can tell how much he enjoyed playing and competing. Thanks for this reaction.

    The league has god tier athletes today but even still they reside under the lurking presence of the trinity, Michael Magic and Larry. As great as this league is these guys and the guys they played with through the 80s and 90s are the standard. FACT.
    That's no fault of today's players that's just history.

    The way the question was worded, I can see why Larry said M.L. Carr. It was sort of suggested to name a player that didn't get remembered as often. But, yes, I still believe Bird feels that DJ was the best he ever played with...they had a connection.😊

    • @dutchtea8354
      @dutchtea8354 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agree, especially about the connection with DJ. Larry”s answer was more about ML Carr taking on the role of team cheerleader.

    • @bduval9253
      @bduval9253 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. Seems like the late, great DJ gets the bulk of Larry's love as his favorite on-the-court teammate. (You might think Larry was trying to honor/elevate DJ's memory, but he said the same before DJ passed.) That being said, you only need to see a clip of ML waving his towel and jumping around on the Boston sidelines to know why he earned a special place in Larry's list of great teammates.

    Great interview. I had seen it before but always like to hear Birds take on things. Bird always mentions other players in these interviews. He was so team oriented and admired skill set of other players. I can't remember what interview I watched but he said he got his step back from a bench player named Terry Durod his rookie year in practice. Just like Magic said in an interview that he got one of his moves from pistol Pete Maravich. Never tire watching them because a great as they were they stayed humble and promoted the game

    What a basketball mind! If you could pick 1 player in a fantasy draft to start a franchise it would LB. Not bc he is the best individual player ever, but bc he makes every player better. He’s a great team player, and he’s the player you want with the ball when the game is on the line.

    Great video and great reaction. Thanks for putting this out there - I had never seen it. Very cool to see a legend from an entirely different sport show such respect. I guess I would expect this kind of "international awe" for American-made global giants like Jordan, Tiger, and Serena Williams, but I guess I thought Bird's legacy was more like a well-kept US secret. Glad to know I'm wrong about that. It was also so great to hear how much Larry appreciated a guy like ML Carr - not a star on the court, but a consummate teammate. I'd love to hear today's stars highlight the unsung "lunchpail" guys we fans might not appreciate like we should.

    I’m old enough to have seen this different eras. I always wonder how the league would handle the Mchale foul on Rambis in game 4 of the 84 finals. Jail? Certainly not some dude just taking 2 free throws. Followed by Kareem’s elbow to Bird’s face. That game seems like it occurred on another planet.

    To be fair, Larry always said DJ was the best and smartest *player* he ever played with. That's not quite the same as being the best teammate.
