For potential parts swappers: 1. There are two basic computer series: Non-VTEC, whose part number will include "PLM" (e.g. 37820-PLM-A06), and VTEC, which have "PLR" in the number (like Temppy's). For each, there are manual and automatic trans versions, with the ECM also running the automatic transmission where there is one. Manual computers will have numbers in the single digits before mid-2003 (e.g. C06), and in the teens thereafter (A12); automatic computers to mid-2003 were in the fifties (e.g. A56) 2. There are (at least) three "markets", with ECMs tuned for each: US "Federal Emissions" (computer letter: A), US "California Emissions" (L), and Canada (C). In Temppy's example, you can see the "C" in the part number 37820-PLR-C12. I'm not certain, but the "L" model might have disappeared after the mid-2003 refresh, or maybe it's only certain models that got it (with VTEC, or with a given transmission). All of these will interchange, all else being equal (same trans, same VTEC-ness)...the car doesn't know what country it's in! I could say more, but...maybe just shoot me a question if you have one. I have a fair few computer sets and loose ECMs for these cars, which I'd love to put in the hands of people who need them for a nominal cost. I used to sell on eBay before my life fell apart "Part and Parcel"...
@@Temppy1 I'm sure you're going to the same outfit as me, mon ami. Anyway, it's been a few years. Hey so I got a question for you someone who knows a bit about cars... I have a 05 civic reverb and my instrument panel won't light up and my green key (immobilizer) isn't even showing on it. My gears, engine light, maintenance, seat belt, airbag and turn signals all light up but my lights for lighting up the entire panel doesn't light up. I have no idea how to fix this as far as Ive checked all the fuses are good. Any ideas? Also my ac doesn't work, don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. And there is a white box behind the mirror changing button and it's got a green adapter that isn't plugged in and when I do plug it in, the alarm goes off and there is no way in stopping it. Also my key fob well reset with my car but after the door cycle commences then it won't unlock or lock the doors anymore and I can't arm my car alarm and there is no red little light on-top of the steering wheel anymore... Please can someone help me? Been trying to figure this out for a couple months now lol
Question? I have a 1999 Honda prelude and I did a swap of tranny from auto to manual. The mechanic manage to burn the pcm. I found a replacement on ebay. If it has the same number will it make my vehicle work?
@@Temppy1 Well mine has many issues. Quite somne electric parts dont work now all of a sudden. electric doorlocks, interior ceiling light. Airco. Got a feeling something else is messed up
Hi bro, should the ECU donor and acceptor have to be the same part number? because I have a 2001 civic and my brother just gave me a 2003 ECU. My plan is to swap my 2001 ic240 and H1Y-E into the 2003.
So I swapped both chips, car runs with flashing green key on dash and sets p1607. Also plugged in old pcm w out either chip, same situation. Any ideas? Maybe corrupted data on eeprom?
@@Temppy1 pcm swap was to fix transmission shifting/ d flashing. Same numbers on ecm. No green key flashing before pcm swap. Idk if pcm had been swapped before me. Saw on some other forums the 1607 pcm internal circuit error happened to them when they moved the chips
Good morning friend, could you write to me in Spanish, ,, my computer does not connect with the scanner and the RPM, temperature works only for a moment when turning on, and has signal cuts to the injectorsb
With no key, you can't do this trick. It's for when you have a working key, but failed ECM (probably from alternator ground/bolt bullsh..). Temppy is transferring the immobilizer EEPROM, so the new ECM will still recognize the old key(s). I know you've probably already done whatever you're doing, OP, but in case any one else reads this...
Soy de venezuela. Lo siento ver tu comentario tarde. Esto sucede porque se quemo la computadora. Por mala carga del alternador. Y mala tierra. Es un problema comun en los honda civic. La solucion es reemplazar la computadora y programar.
What a dense question. It's probably because of the fact that all those things are expensive, versus this is practically free with the only cost being time and skill.

I just did this on my 01 civic and it worked! Thank you sir for this information!!!

Holy hell seriously this works? Well I got my weekend project.
Yup save yourself some money go to a pick and pull

$50 is robbery. When I was picking parts, I'd make sure to drop a few in my tool bag. Herbert Black is rich enough!
the place i go pick and pull checks our bags coming in and out and its $50 cad so like 35usd isnt that bad

What did you do
Did you swap chips from old ecu?
Did you buy a chip and replace you old one
🤔
I took the chip off the old one and soldered it
To “new one”
I'm having trouble getting the car to turn over. If I remove the chip completely, will that solve my issue? No replacement chip
No unless u have a k tune immobilier bypass the écu won’t let you turn it over
PS did you get it to work?
Yah it ran fine

Try replacing the MCU under the steering wheel

Then you have to manually bypass all electric circuits which aren't working..

did the ecu come the same moter as your car, it sound like a map issue p1607 maybe the reason

Do you happen to know if this also works on European models of that era 97-02?
Ow nevermind, i see this is complete different board

Will this work for 01-05 European Type R? Just remove the chips and leave the board bare?
Does this legit work? I bought a previously stolen CRV from auction and it has no key and im trying to get it started without buying a new ignition.
Yup it works yo just have to get a key and matching écu to the key but u can also bypass the wiring in the car to work without the emoblizer
