Great set up. I saw the Buzzard Roost video and was wondering what type of trailer this was. Just curious about what can one of these be built for? Great job! Thanks!
Thanks! It has come along since then too... I need to make a new video this spring with some of the latest developments. And it has proven itself on several trips to be very capable!
Mountains to Sea Overland definitely update a video this is a way cheaper route than those ones already made I mean 20-30k no thank you it would be fun to build one as well.
Does your rig have the 3.4? If so how is it on fuel and power? I'm looking to buy a late 90's 4 runner but I'd like to be able to pull my RZR with us on some trips. I noticed you have an auto transmission how do you like it verses a manual? Sorry to question you to death, love the channel man keep it up!
I do have the 3.4 liter (5VZ-FE) and I love the engine, but not necessarily for it's efficiency or power. I get about 18-20 MPG which isn't terrible but isn't great either, and even without pulling anything it feels a bit under powered. For instance when I try ti use cruise control it ends up down shifting horribly when I hit the slightest hill and I have to cut it off. I haven't regeared, so that could help, but I also have fairly close to stock size tires, so I really shouldn't have to. The reason I love the engine is because it has legendary reliability and should last me for the rest of my life if I take care of it (600K-1M miles) plus it is designed to provide great torque for offroading. So it does what an overlander needs. It keeps running reliability and it has the capability where it's needed for tough terrain. I do have the automatic transmission and I like it. I have had manual transmissions before and enjoy driving them in small cars, but for offroad the automatic is really nice when working through obstacles and covering ground, especially in a group. My father in law has the manual in his 3.4L tacoma and he get's frustrated on the trail because people ahead of him aren't going fast enough so he has to constantly hit the clutch. Riding the trail with a group (or even alone) is roughly equivalent to being in rush hour traffic. In terms of pulling, my trailer is only around 4-500 lbs fully loaded and I don't even notice it back there. But with the 3.4L being a little underpowered, I wouldn't buy it if thje plan was to pull a ski boat or a big motor home. I'm not sure where the RZRs fit in that spectrum. If on a trailer they are only a little heavier then my offroad trailer then you should have no problems at all. One nice thing about mine is I have an "ECT" button, which can be pushed and the engine begins shifting sooner which accounts for pulling my trailer. Thanks for your support for the channel! Keep me updated if you get a 4Runner... I absolutely love mine!
@@mountainstoseaoverland9855 thanks for all the info I definitely plan on getting one but I'm going to take my time and be picky about it. I think I'll lean toward the stick shift just for pulling im afraid of the automatic not being durable pulling 1500-2000 lbs. Great job on the channel I hope to get mine off the ground a little better in the next year.

What is your all in $ without the RTT, if you don’t mind.
I am curious too!! Thinking about a build.
