Air in Our Fuel! Fixing Leaks in Our Perkins 4108 Diesel

A trick for finding where air is leaking into the fuel system of a diesel engine. This the Perkins 4108 on our sailing boat, that used to have an intermittent starting problem, requiring bleeding.

sherry from trans atlantic diesel says if you run an electric pump and a mechanicaal lift pump, that the electric pump will blow out the mechanical pump, so fuel may be leaking in the lift pump itself.

In my opinion the mechanical fuel pumps are the weak spot in any fuel system . I've experienced this often .

@@wimmol Yes, when they fail, they can fail in an ugly way. Redundant electric pumps with alarms might be the Rolls Royce approach.
