A fun bit of trivia about the crocodile movie Primeval, obviously it’s called Primeval & you’re probably thinking “That’s the British time travel paleo show isn’t it?” Yes… but the movie came first, the Primeval movie came out January 2007, a month before the show did, to the point where on the movies Wikipedia page it states “Despite its title, it has no relation to the 2007 ITV television series of the same name.” lol
The croc in Primeval is definitely not a Deinosuchus. It's a Nile Crocodile named Gustave that actually existed. He is no doubt oversized in the movie but he really was massive, the real life expedition was unable to capture him but they did get some footage and you could tell that he was huge!
A few more interpretations of Deinosuchus that I know of are: Hook (1991) - While still (technically) a Crocodile, the large size of the Crocodile/Clock Tower is reminiscent of a Deinosuchus. Paleoworld (1994/S3E1: Ancient Crocodiles) - This episode focused on Prehistoric/Extinct Crocodylomorphs, with the main focus being on Deinosuchus. Safari Ltd/Carnegie (1995) - Deinosuchus was a figurine made by this toy company. Dinotopia: First Flight (1999) - Deinosuchus is featured briefly as the characters traverse their way through a swamp. Peter Pan (2003) - Same as Hook. While it's still a Crocodile, the large size is reminiscent of a Deinosuchus. Schleich (2005) - Deinosuchus was a figurine made by this toy company. Planet Dinosaur (2011/S1E3: Last Killers) - While not identified, it's the only possible Crocodylomorph large enough to attack the Centrosaurus while they were crossing the river. Power Rangers: Dino Charge (2015) - The accompanying toy line featured a Zord that was based on Deinosuchus. Rampage (2018) - Again, while not a Deinosuchus, the film's mutated Alligator draws some inspiration from Deinosuchus with its' massive size (exceeding the max estimates for Deinosuchus & more around the size of a Kaiju Monster).
Lake Placid is supposed to just be a salt water crocodile that became giant when moved to the lake, Plus i think later movies retconed it that it's an escaped lab experiment
7:59 I might be able to shed some light on that one, Primeval the movies crocodilian was in fact not only a crocodile, but it’s specifically the infamous killer croc Gustave himself.
The way eldering works in Prior extinction is that once you are adult you can start eldering it takes several hours to elder and you have to maintain a wellbeing of 80 or above and be in a server with 50 players or more.
Primeval crocodile is not Deinosuchus, it's a Nile Crocodile that is based of Gustave the man eating crocodile. I don't know if it's true but Primeval was originally named Gustave
Another great vid, I remember that my first introduction to deinosuchus was prehistoric park and i vividly remember the moment where it attacked the parasurolophus. That moment stuck with me for the rest of my life and cemented this creature as one of my favorite prehistoric creatures along with pachyrhinosaurus, styracosaurus, and diplodicus.
2:40 that crocodile is not a deinosuchus but people named it that thinking it is one when watching clips of the movie but in reality its an oversized saltwater crocodile 7:40 that movie was based on a true story of a massive nile crocodile named Gustave that killed 60 people and is still out there in burundi no one knows if he's dead or alive the last sighting of him was in 2015.
The animal in Lake Placid is supposed to be a Saltwater Crocodile that has grown massive from being hand fed for years by an elderly woman played by Betty White (not I'm not joking), but I don't think it's explained how a Saltwater Croc got to the Americas. Primeval I haven't seen but I know it's inspired by the real-life maneater Gustave, so it's probably meant to be a Nile Crocodile.
Primeval was based on a relatively true story its a about Gustave a giant croc that eluded capture for years and had killed over 300 people in Burundi Africa
Interesting fact: Most fossils associated with Deinosuchus was once considered to be a distinct species called Phobosuchus, and that dubious species has appeared in “Animal Armageddon”and was the owner of the DNA strain that was used to make “Supergator” in its solo movie.
7:35 this is based off of Gustave the Nile crocodile that’s infamous for its man-eater status. Fun fact: Gustave is possibly still alive. There was no confirmation aside from a claim that he had been killed.
If Purussaurus ever gets an entry in this series, then one videogame appearance to include in it would be the gnarly looking fella in Creatures of War.

It truly was a show of all time (I was more of a wonderpets kid to be honest)
Really enjoyed this episode! Deinosuchus is my favourite prehistoric crocodilian species of them all so it was great seeing so many depictions of this awesome beast of the Cretaceous rivers and waterways :) Also prehistoric park introduced me to this creature back in 2006 as well, I remember being so in awe there was this giant crocodilian that could bully dinosaurs off their kill I was so wowed by it I remember getting the Schleich Deinosuchus model and colouring it's teeth red to represent blood when it was ambushing my toy dinosaurs 😂 It still has the faint bits of red on it's teeth to this day
12:23 it's probably there because the developers modeled and rigged Deinosuchus with Megalania which did get added to the Ice Age section due to it being a cenozoic creature. Same with Titanoboa and Arthropleura which also share animations and environment in the game despite them being VERY different.
The crocodile from Lake Placid isn’t a Deinosuchus. It was said to be a Saltwater Crocodile in the film. But I respect your choice for adding it to the list with its huge size.
The crocodile from Primeval the movie was based on gustave, a nile crocodile that was so large it would hunt hippos. It was also a well-known man eater, and the only reason it was still alive was because they didn't have access to guns that could kill it. I think they tried blowing it up once, and it pulled an indom and shrugged it off.
I highly recommend checking out the roars (aggressive, broadcast) roars in prior extinction dinosaurs! Since you can see more of their animations, it’s on top near the growth stages button! I love your vids 🎉
Strangely enough, 15 meters is pretty much (give or take 6-7 inches) 50 feet. So the Deinosuchus in Prehistoric Park aren't actually that oversized. As far as the biggest individuals are concerned, 50 feet isn't too much of a stretch. But most were certainly in the 40-45 foot range on average.
Yeah, 15 meters is most certainly the (potential) higher end for the animal. And most certainly would not have been the average. It’s also, not necessarily confirmed, due to the fragmentary nature of Deinosuchus fossils.
@DinoGuy8 That's true. Perhaps with more remains, we could probably better estimate the average size, the smallest size (for an adult anyway), and the biggest size. The biggest alligators, if I recall, were estimated to be nearly 20 feet in length (around the size of exceptionally large nile crocodiles or large salties). So imagine an Alligatoroid 2.5x longer (for the biggest individuals) than the largest alligators on record. Although apparently, Nigel Marven in the making of documentary for Prehistoric Park said that Deinosuchus would be 60 feet long. That's definitely an oversize. Although 8-9 tons is possible for, again, the largest individuals.
@MarkTheDilophosaurus281 at least in the case of the Liopluerodon from Walking with Dinosaurs, it was a specific individual that was that big. The narration even states the male was big for his kind. Implying that others of his species are smaller than 25 meters (which as outdated as it is is considered the biggest it could get). Even the pilot episode of Walking with Dinosaurs (and the Discovery Channel version of the show) said that Liopluerodon would be around 18 meters (just around 60 feet long). Though the weight estimate of 100 tons or more is definitely oversized, the length estimates are close to the highest ones for Pliosaurus. So there were definitely gigantic Pliosaurs during the age of dinosaurs (as rare as those specimens would be found as fossils) but they probably didn't weigh 100 tons or more.
22:24 I just wanted to mention this looks really good because it was actually made by Garuga123 which means it’s a modded creature. It was added to the vanilla game not too long ago but just wanted to say that in case anyone would like to know!

And as for the crocodile at 7:48 that crocodile is based on a real life crocodile which has the name gustave who was a massive Nile crocodile that resided in Africa that became famous for being rumored to have killed and eaten over 300 people despite that not being proven and the one in the movie is supposed to be that very same croc so it's not a deinosuchus it's just a very large Nile crocodile hope that gives some clarification
