    Great video. Simple and clear. I like how the artist says when she doesn’t like something and either changes it or explains that there will be a lot more layers. Thanks!

    • @artistspace
      @artistspace  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know I've never tried that combination. The best way to find out is to experiment on a side board to see if you can get what you're after. I HAVE used cold wax on a regular oil painting to build up texture - not using a brayer but a palate knife. So no problems there. Not sure why you want it to warm up though...

    Great introduction. I work with hot wax, encaustic, love it but would love to try cold wax. Will cold wax work with water-based oil paint?

    • @artistspace
      @artistspace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think so, but am not sure. I don't use it that way. You can use it to varnish your acrylic water based paint though. It'll give it a mat surface with a very light sheen. Looks great.

    Hi Andrea. I've wanted to try using cold wax for doing impasto with oil paints, but I've read on a couple of forums that the wax never fully dries.
    Is there any truth to that? I decided to go with limestone flour for now, but I'd love to try cold wax... what do you think?

    • @artistspace
      @artistspace  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There probably is a little truth to it. It takes a LONG time to dry fully when used as impasto. There are other mediums that work better for that, though I use cold wax myself if it's not for a too heavy texture build up

    can we keep on adding layers and what do we do with the fat over lean principle?

    • @artistspace
      @artistspace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      to a certain degree, but after a while, it'll be too waxy and you'll lose the translucent layers coming out from previous layers, It's a fine line. Again, I teach classes in this, it might be helpful to do a workshop. Let me know if that's of interest

    • @artistspace

      Hmmmm. There's just a tiny bit of gamsol in cold wax, so there are very little fumes. That's why I started working with it. But always keep your studio or work space ventilated.

    • @artistspace

      Encaustic requires heat to dry though I'm not an expert in encaustics. Cold wax doesn't and is far less toxic. That's why I started using it. Became allergic to oil paint mediums.
