I am not a brickie but I could watch you for hours I watch every one of your videos have done from day one. I bet Tyler wonders what’s hit him today , nice to see young lads getting on with it doing as their asked without any drama. Not seen your dad on your videos for a while has he retired.
Points for you on that charlie good to see you checking up on your workers making sure that thay are doing the work the right way keep up the good work
Fair play spending time with the apprentice i did me level 3 nvq but was never given the time of day to lay after that in my 30s now would love to give it another crack
Nice work, ethics, don't abuse your apprentices or there won't be any apprentices. Hard enough to get good help ,hire apprentices, raise your own good help.
Exactly. These people wonder why there aren’t enough young people learning trades and put it all down to youngsters having no graft when they won’t lift a finger to teach them. A good apprentice will work hard for you so long as they can trust you with their future.
ITS ACTUALLY THERAPEUTIC WATCHING THESE VIDEOS! A LOT OF PEOPLE DOMT REALLY SEE THE WORK, EFFORT AND SKILL THAT GOES IN AND IS REQUIRED TO DO THESE JOBS - IT IS AN ART KEEPING EVERYTHING LEVEL, SQUARE & NEAT. I used to be a Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic. Ended up having to work at a metal fabrication shop when I could find no other work. I was amazed by my lack of skills and knowledge when I found out how little pay I was being offered. Sure was good at pulling welding cables on job sites.
I half get one he’s saying with traditional bricklayer, but let’s not forget Charlie is throwing them in, and his apprentice will not be around in 6 months. Traditional bricklayers lad will more likely stay with his dad.
Hopefully he does, he should learn what he can from Charlie. I’ve got both my lads working with me, ones now laying, the other started around a month ago he’s now spreading and understanding how to use the trowel.
fair play putting up with the young apprentices its hard to stay calm with them sometimes 16:07 made me laugh he could have handed the brick to you but dumped it into the muck and youve just lobbed it on the floor hahaha fair play id lose the plot haha
Hi Charlie what do you think about getting a hod carrier to lay some bricks when have some time to spare? Bit older now don’t think I could afford apprenticeship route. Cheers 👍
I got into bricklaying because of the 3 day week 😂😂😂.... I'd heard the wrap tent scaffold thingy costs 35 thou....I asked a contracts manager ( Redrow) about it....he didn't even reply , then walked off...... probably to the golf course......😮😮😮
Love the videos. Just a question or two. Why are the corners doubled up like that? And 2 what’s the difference between a bod carrier and an apprentice?
@@CharlieCollisonnot much brick work here in Florida. I’ve bricked 2 houses in my 20+ year career. A lot of block here and the garage lintels we set here are a bear.
A hod carrier is what they call a laborer an apprentice is someone they are teaching to lay bricks alot of times the apprentice has to do some laborer work
@CharlieCollison I still don't get that why it takes more than one masonry contractor to build a house I've never been on a job like that where I live in the US where I build half the house and someone else finishes it
You're going to spend more time jointing in all those holes full perps mate show the kid the professional way..he laid two brick and he has big perps..watch your bond mate
its painful to watch your laddie when I started all I did was lay the bed with a eight inch trowel for weeks and get used to movement in your wrists get rid of that shovel hes using get him a smaller trowel
First person to tell me how many bricks was laid in this video I’ll send £100 to 😘

It’s so cool watching different masons around the globe and their different set ups/ methods. Great video Charlie.
Great video Charlie great way to teach your apprentice he’s lucky to be learning from the best in the country

“Looks alright from my house” is my favourite saying at work 😂 just seems to go over 90% of peoples heads 🙈
Where I live in the US it's a pretty common saying
I could watch your for hours laying brick you probability think i am bonkers but I find it relaxing
I don't know how it works today, but the CITB used to come on site to check how apprentices were being taught. This is 40 yrs ago, mind!
Yeah, same with EITB in my training
Fare play Charlie, absolutely chucked them in! Its easy to watch and hard to do. I guess 420 bricks in that video.
The 1 hour long episodes are back 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Charlie it hasn't loaded fully, I had 12 seconds of a black screen
Great video charlie, great to see ya teaching another 1 a great trade❤
Full joints Charlie please and no tipping
You can lay twice the amount by cutting corners. Do that with me and you're knocking down the wall and rebuilding it for free.
@@gteaz Someone who actually makes a sensable comment, most of these folk in the comments musnt not have laid a single brick in their lives. SMH 🙄🙄
Full perps please MR C. No tip und tuck 😂 Top lad
Fantastic work Charlie
Guy's back is unbelievable.
My first boss taught me to graft Charlie,45 years ago. Still Mates now.

Charlie isn't teaching his apprentice on a period property here though mate.... this is new build site work to current regs?

I feel sorry for AMI or AMY as she has done well to keep it up 😊😊
I have a question, why the single brick stack bond in the corner and not just bond it with the half on the corner not in the middle ? ❤❤
I didn’t build the ground floor
