I think a big part of why I like cozy games is you can feel a lot of soul in them. It's really worthwhile to play a game and see the passion you poured being rewarded and thrown right back at you. Also a nice decompress to a long semester lol
Finally, someone talks about the oversaturation of cozy games! or at least, its the first video i see with this as the main topic, i got a little frustrated seeing so many games trying to be the new animal crossing or the new stardew valley when i felt like the real appeal of this games is how soulfull they are and thats precisely while we can sink hundreds of hours on them
Exactly! it is super frustrating to see all these games being released back to back pretty much and not having even half of the same amount of substance that Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley has. Even New Horizons wasn't really all that amazing either in my opinion. It was essentially an incomplete game that was updated and disguised as "seasonal updates/events." I still prefer New Leaf and play it every now and again to this day. :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks so much for watching.
Like you said, I think it’s a video game industry problem more than a genre problem. Capitalist opportunism breeds stagnation as developers lazily attempt to cash in on what is popular at the time.
While I personally categorize Cozy as a feeling more so than a genre, it does definitely share many of the faults genres have. For example, take something like FPS games such as Call of Duty or Mascot Platformers such as Mario and Sonic. Games like Mario or COD set the standard for their respective genres so many tried to replicate it. The result of that was an oversaturation in the market for these genres, some good, most not. With the rise in Cozy games it’s definitely been the same. For every big cozy game like Stardew you’re gonna have many try to replicate it, and many fail at it. Since Cozy games are still in their infancy, at least in popularity, it’s gonna take some time for the quality stuff to come to the surface. Many Mascot Platformers like Gex or Bubsy died off once the genre grew older and fans of it knew what to look out for. Just some of my thoughts
graveyard keeper may not be as in depth as stardew valley, but i'd be lying if i said i didn't prefer the way graveyard keeper does things like fast travel and automation, which stardew fails at for me personally by having them both be such late-game advancements, when you're no longer working for a goal that isn't just "make more money than you did the previous year", setting you into a sort of corporate grind. my favorite part of games like these is being able to work and play at the same time; for example, having my crops be automatically turned into wine and then sold while i spend my time gathering resources. yes, stardew has SOME automation, but it doesn't feel like it's nearly enough after experiencing graveyard keeper. then again, it's all based on preferences of the player, and this is just my opinion!
I see your point! Thanks so much for sharing your input. :) I do agree, there are some things that Graveyard Keeper does that Stardew Valley doesn't, and that's okay. I'm not saying cozy games that are being released today aren't enjoyable. My problem though is when the same type of game keeps getting released over and over again. Think Coral Island, My Time at Portia/Sandrock, Harvest Moon remakes/re-releases and Palia (even though I did enjoy Palia, I just couldn't stand the framerate problems so I dropped it and decided to wait until they optimized the game a little better).
Absolutely love the thumbnail, it’s so cozy 🙌🏻 this is my favorite genre I’m so grateful it opened up since animal crossing was my favorite game as a kid 💜
I feel like what the (less money grab type) stardew imitators miss is that stardew itself began as an imitation of harvest moon. A coding exercise for concerned ape. Then he improved upon it and expanded it. And he continuously does this. Even now, while coding his next game, he’s taken a break from that to go back and give Stardew another MAJOR update. THAT’S how you keep a fandom alive and how you continue to gain new audiences years after a games release. Major companies devs don’t deliver this because they have a million other things to balance (like insane quotas), but an indie dev that’s still finding their feet should continue to reflect on what they can do better and what exciting changes they can make. Even club penguin did this. They started out with a very basic test and built up from there. Like any creative endeavour, you can gain so much knowledge from imitation, but if you fail to reach further, your work will always be derivative.
I totally agree! You definitely get it. :) It's so cool how you mentioned Club Penguin, it really was such a small thing at first until Disney took over and well, uh, kinda ruined it to a certain degree.
Thank you so much! 😊 That's very kind of you to say, I appreciate it. It's making content for you and my other subscribers that makes this all the more worthwhile for me. Thank you for watching! 😁
still not as bad as the shooter genre-- yall out here doing too much hunting and now youre mad you dont enjoy foraging. maybe the instantaneous dopamine hit of action-adventure in video games has just rotted us all mentally
I totally get where you're coming from! I've seen so many of my friends live and breathe on games like Call of Duty and legit freak out whenever they--or their teammate--underperforms. Like I get it, COD is fun, even I play it from time to time. But at the end of the day, it's just a game like any other.
I think about this a lot, about the dopamine hit and ADHD etc. games themselves I think have this effect on me personally. To the point where if something IRL takes a while to do/achieve I put off starting it and do games instead 😂
Probably one of those instances where you have read a word a bunch, but never heard it out loud before. I had this with conflagration where I thought the -ration was pronounced like the food portion and not with a hard 'a'.

Absolutely! :) It's why I always fall back on Stardew Valley and Minecraft at the end of every semester. It's just super relaxing!

Great video.
Thank you! 😊
Minecraft in vr i must admit is bit more like a horror game than cozy game lol.
Haha!! You're not wrong 🤣 it's a very isolating game on single player
Can't wait for the next nintendo direct with no new Nintendo games and nothing but cozy farming sims
You're probably right, sadly... I feel like the quality of Nintendo Directs have been going down a lot, too.

@@securityguruguyhave you ever tried gamifying your life or putting it into the perspective of playing your life as a video game? That kinda helps me
@@cookiesandpudding8485 I have tried but I think I haven't found a reward that satisfies me enough to beat out just chilling with games
I like your voice... Just thought I'd share...
Thank you! :)
macabre is pronounced “muh cob”
Haha, my bad! Thanks for pointing it out. I appreciate it :)

I dont like cozy games
