Fogerty was the master at writing these 3 minute slabs of simple lyrical and sonic perfection. Somehow he made a group of San Francisco boys sound like they came out of the Deep South.
Guys. You talk about guitar tone all the time. How about Black Magic Woman by Santana? There is no sweeter tone on Earth. You can pick him out from a million other guitarists immediately.
Excellent suggestion, although to fully appreciate it, you should listen to the whole of the first side of the Abraxas album - it sounds so much better that way.
A&A - Oh, Dude!! Lmao. This was beyond fun!!! It is perfection & am so thrilled you had such a blast w/ this. There's no one like Fogerty's guitar & vocals. Solid musicians/music!! Have a fantastic weekend, fellas! Still lmao! -- Lisa :)
Another excellent suggestion, although I'm a huge fan of "Try a Little Tenderness!" Three Dog Night is definitely worth a listen. Brings back great memories.
Funny thing is with the song Lodi it just sounds to most people like its probably another song about the south but if you're from Northern California and have drive around some at all you'll just be like oh, thats south of Sacramento lol (Green River is also about a place kinda near Sacramento).
For some reason it has really kind of bothered me since I learned that CCR wasn’t from somewhere in the south. Still amazing music but it just kinda sticks in my craw. Would be like if The Beach Boys were from Chicago or something
But only half as good as their swampy tune, Dark Eyed Cajun, Woman. You can almost feel the cold mud squeezing between your toes in the cold night air.
They did an INCREDIBLE version (zoom?) early in the covid weirdness. eta: John Fogerty did some great online performances during the lockdown as well. Great musicians all!
Oldsmar FLA here. CCR, along with Tony Joe White, fits this awful Florida humidity like a glove. My dad listened to this stuff all the time when I was growing up, and my son is probably going to have the same story when he gets older. Timeless stuff.
He’s still singing.. live - he’s in Las Vegas often. He’s been posting videos from his home studio, with his kids, who all tour with him. He still sounds great!
Yep. I absolutely love his album Deja Vu All Over Again. Some of it sounds *exactly* like CCR. Wicked Old Witch, In the Garden, Nobody's Here Anymore. Great stuff!
When I was nine, my family was camping at Devils Lake in Wisconsin. My sister made friends with some guys who promptly came to our campfire, and one with guitar asked if we wanted to hear a song. He started playing and singing Proud Mary and I have been a CCR fan ever since!
Used to hike and rock climb at Devil's Lake all the time. Hop on the ferry and cruise on into the park for a day of sunshine. The last time I was there, about twenty years ago, my girlfriend and me were sitting with our feet dangling over the edge of the bluff, taking in the beautiful view, when a hawk came gliding by not more that ten feet in front of us. It gave the tips of its wings just a little flap, but we both heard it. Gave us chills.
@@Drummingvulture I loved those bluffs! Seen plenty of Turkey Vultures! The sad thing is, if a couple of young adults experienced today what you saw then, they would only get a glimpse because they would be trying to get their phones out to take a picture. I live in Vegas now, and in a half hour I can be at Red Rock Canyon. I was there yesterday hiking a mountain I know well. I get to the top to find two twenty-somethings BOTH on their phones! One talking loudly and the other sitting on a rock and watching a vid, instead of looking at the incredible scenery! If you are ever in Vegas, it is worth spending a day out there (just don't try to do it in the summer months!).
John Fogerty is an honorary Southerner. In fact he is more Southern than most of the people living in the South now. Along with Patrick Simmons and Tommy Johnston of the Doobie Brothers, I was proud to dub them Honorary Sons of The South!
Z Z Top - La Grange. But my personal favorite by Z Z Top is "Got Me under pressure." This is the one I would suggest you listen to. Some nasty, hard-hitting rhythm and licks in that song.
I particularly recommend ZZ Top's live videos from their 1980 Rockpalast performance. This is them at their blues-rock best, before they broke REALLY big in the 80s (and got a little more commercial). La Grange is a blues guitar standard, and Just Got Paid is also tremendous at this performance.
Once again - see, I told you. Now for your next CCR reactions: -Run Through the Jungle - Susie Q - Keep on Chooglin’ I don’t think CCR was not serious. I just think they were relaxed.
You all are catching on! You've reacted to numerous great songs, but you haven't even gotten close to all the others out there from the late 60's thru the 70's! They will keep coming!
lets face it, they'd have to do a couple of songs a day 5 or 6 days a week to begin to truly make a dent in ALL the great music of the 60s, 70s, and early eighties. time these college boys don't have.
Your absolutely right flubblert! I was considering some of your math numbers when I wrote my initial comment! There are many bands I haven’t even seen mentioned as suggestions in all the past comments from all their previous reviews! Two great guys enjoying music like we did in the early to mid 70’s college days!
A&A - Oh, Dude!! Lmao. This was beyond fun!!! It is perfection & am so thrilled you had such a blast w/ this. There's no one like Fogerty's guitar & vocals. Solid musicians/music!! Have a fantastic weekend, fellas! Still lmao! -- Lisa :)
I recall an interview with Fogerty once where someone asked him where he gets that distinct style of singing from, coming as he does from California. He made no bones about the fact that he was going for older black southern blues guy. I'm not sure he quite got there, but damn if he didn't create a completely original sound all his own in the process. No one sounds quite like him.
@@flubblert Great point. One would think he was out of Bayou country. I believe he was so taken with the sound coming from the southern regions, he couldn't help but want to immerse himself? Unique vocalist/guitarist, absolutely! Have a great weekend flubblert! :)
Ten Years After - "I'd love to change the world". Lyrics, guitar and percussion are so good in this one. Anti-war and anti-political song. Check this one out. Cheers from Poland.
My two favorites from CCR are, "I Put a Spell on You," and "I Heard it Through the Grapevine." Both are covers, but they really do it right. You should give both a listen even if you don't choose to react to them. Loving watching you enjoy the music I grew up on. If you want something swampy, try Canned Heat! "On the Road Again," "Marie Laveau," or many others from them. Dr, John is another musician that has more than a little swamp, and New Orleans in his music. Enjoy your journey!
"You're way cooler if you don't care". AWESOME! Sounds like John Fogerty! Thanks. I've listened to this song for almost 50 years. Glad to see appreciation from a younger crowd who knows good music. Thanks guys!
Considering they never went to the south or near a swamp and lived on the West Coast, it was a super great con to build their fantastic career on such a premise.
I’ve listened to CCR for decades and love everything they did. However, during your reaction video, I rediscovered the tremendous bass on this song. It completed the song.
I'm 55 and it really does my heart good to see you two young men my sons age discovering and savoring the music of my generation. CCR is so good soulful and gritty down home, you really feel the soul of the lyrics and music. You can feel the heat, the sweat and humidity of being in the back woods bayou in this song. Please listen to more CCR bad moon risen, you got to hide and so many of their greatest hits (since I have 2 sons in their 20s one in a black metal band ( base) I feel a little bad for cougar crushing on you two, guess I just really enjoy watching you two enjoy my generational music) Much love Dreama
They have an 11 minute version of I heard it through the grapevine that is unbelievable. Bass and drums are relentless and drive the song start to finish.

Gary Kelly It IS time for some Charlie Daniels. Also, nice choices of CCR songs.👍
th-cam.com/video/L5V9nK7-OkM-/w-d-xo.html--one of my favorites
"Suzy Q" is the next swampiest, hands down.
Great list. I'd start with Green River but add Suzie Q too.
Gary Kelly it’s not “ put a candle in the window” it’s called “as long as I can see the light” fyi
Fogerty was the master at writing these 3 minute slabs of simple lyrical and sonic perfection.
Somehow he made a group of San Francisco boys sound like they came out of the Deep South.
Creedence and the Doobies two of the best kick ass bands ever.
Need some Santana! My vote. "She's Not There" (cover, but better!)
@Trevor Aton Singing Winds, Crying Beasts!
Or "Evil Ways" or "Oye Como Va" or "Samba Pa Ti" the list long.
A&A - Oh, Dude!! Lmao. This was beyond fun!!! It is perfection & am so thrilled you had such a blast w/ this. There's no one like Fogerty's guitar & vocals. Solid musicians/music!! Have a fantastic weekend, fellas! Still lmao! -- Lisa :)
Three Dog Night song 'Mama Told me Not To Come' is a lot of fun and good ole rock n roll
Please give Three Dog Night's song "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" a listen!
That's a good one.
Another excellent suggestion, although I'm a huge fan of "Try a Little Tenderness!" Three Dog Night is definitely worth a listen. Brings back great memories.
Written by Randy Newman!
@@gregrambo606 yes!! Randy can do no wrong!
@@frankdavis6438 It's a shame they aren't at the forefront of conversation more often!
These dudes are from California and you would sware they’re from my home. South Louisiana Cajun country! They have many songs about Louisiana bayous!
Same situation with the Doobie Brothers.
Like the Eagles singing about California and not being from there.
Funny thing is with the song Lodi it just sounds to most people like its probably another song about the south but if you're from Northern California and have drive around some at all you'll just be like oh, thats south of Sacramento lol (Green River is also about a place kinda near Sacramento).
From Berkeley/El Cerrito.
For some reason it has really kind of bothered me since I learned that CCR wasn’t from somewhere in the south. Still amazing music but it just kinda sticks in my craw. Would be like if The Beach Boys were from Chicago or something
When I was a young’un, in the 70s, my momma had this on 8-track.
If you love the swamp vibe, Doobie Brothers' "Black Water" is key.
But only half as good as their swampy tune, Dark Eyed Cajun, Woman. You can almost feel the cold mud squeezing between your toes in the cold night air.
And if you want more Creedence, you MUST try Green River & Run Through The Jungle. Honestly, BANGERS.
They did an INCREDIBLE version (zoom?) early in the covid weirdness.
eta: John Fogerty did some great online performances during the lockdown as well. Great musicians all!
Highly recommend "Down On The Corner" and their cover "I Put A Spell On You"
Also Lookin Out My Back Door
I live in Clearwater Fla. and C.C.R. is some of the best. Green River would be a good Swamp Song.
Oldsmar FLA here. CCR, along with Tony Joe White, fits this awful Florida humidity like a glove. My dad listened to this stuff all the time when I was growing up, and my son is probably going to have the same story when he gets older. Timeless stuff.
Good pick.
I grew up on the bayou, & this song gets the feel. Fogerty has a lot of fans in Bayou Country.
You guys really need to do "Run Through The Jungle" next. A great classic rock track about the Vietnam War. You gotta check it out.
John Fogerty is an honorary Southerner. In fact he is more Southern than most of the people living in the South now. Along with Patrick Simmons and Tommy Johnston of the Doobie Brothers, I was proud to dub them Honorary Sons of The South!
Considered by many as one of their best grooves .... everything was just perfect .
CCR is THE American Band that give our country its own voice in Rock. Their sound is so atmospheric and paints mental images.
This band was actually based in El Cerrito, California....up the road from Oakland
Z Z Top - La Grange. But my personal favorite by Z Z Top is "Got Me under pressure." This is the one I would suggest you listen to. Some nasty, hard-hitting rhythm and licks in that song.
Good call. If you guys haven't started digging into ZZ Top yet, either of these songs would be a perfect place to start.
A how how how how have A&A not done any ZZ Top....?
If ya do ZZ TOP, you gotta do "Heard it on the X", and "Fool for your Stockings"
I'd also go with Waitin' On the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago of Tres Hombres, too. Awesome album.
Now for your next CCR reactions:
-Run Through the Jungle
- Susie Q
- Keep on Chooglin’
I don’t think CCR was not serious. I just think they were relaxed.
If you like that one then I Put A Spell On You is next level.
Great Southern soul music
The smiles on your faces says it all.
That was sooo much fun to watch. I'm still grinning. 😁
@Karen Kriske Hoffman
😁😁😁
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Still lmao! -- Lisa :)
Agreed Lisa!
@@tallykev6608 This was so much fun. Omg! Have a great weekend, Kevin or should I say Dude! lol :)
@@lisaw5604 r&b, blues, southern rock, an irresistible mashup. few bands have done it better than CCR. have a good one Lisa!!
You would never guess that CCR was a California band ❤
Pure Joy! Love Creedence & John Fogherty is King ❤️
I highly recommend Suzy Q it's some CCR real lost in the sauce psychedelic guitar solo stuff.
MustangGrandPubah a MUST
Doobie Brothers Black Water
Robert Wood Absolutely, that’s what I was thinking!!
YES
Concur
Ten Years After - "I'd love to change the world". Lyrics, guitar and percussion are so good in this one. Anti-war and anti-political song. Check this one out. Cheers from Poland.
Robert Wood also a great suggestion!!!
Don't forget 'Midnight Special' when talking about covers!
"You're way cooler if you don't care". AWESOME! Sounds like John Fogerty! Thanks.
I've listened to this song for almost 50 years. Glad to see appreciation from a younger crowd who knows good music. Thanks guys!
Back in the day! Was my band!
For another CCR song... I thing you guys would dig "Midnight Special"
So many good Creedence songs. I like "Travelin' Band" and "It Came Out of the Sky" for straight up rockers.
If you like this try 'Mamma told me not to come' by Three Dog Night.
Ian Ross
3 Dog night live versions are just so much fun.
I was recently listening to their old hits, forgot how good they were!
One - Three Dog Knight, Eli’s Coming - Three Dog Knight
Considering they never went to the south or near a swamp and lived on the West Coast, it was a super great con to build their fantastic career on such a premise.
I'm sure glad to see you children enjoying some of the pioneers!!!
I love dancing to this!!
Radar Love by Golden Earring or Frankenstein by Edgar Winter. That was one of my favorite reactions yet by you guys.
Second both of these...
Frankenstein rules! Gotta watch a retro live version
Frankenstein yea
Fun Fact: even though a lot of CCR songs are set in the South, the band actually formed in California.
I’ve listened to CCR for decades and love everything they did. However, during your reaction video, I rediscovered the tremendous bass on this song. It completed the song.
That whole album kills...
Lookin' Out My Backdoor. Fantastic song and you see them hanging out playing
Boomer here. Love that you guys dig the classic rock I partied to in High School and College.
Doors and Beatles loved Creedence. So did Janis.
Please listen to more
CCR bad moon risen, you got to hide and so many of their greatest hits
(since I have 2 sons in their 20s one in a black metal band ( base) I feel a little bad for cougar crushing on you two, guess I just really enjoy watching you two enjoy my generational music)
Much love
Dreama
They have an 11 minute version of I heard it through the grapevine that is unbelievable. Bass and drums are relentless and drive the song start to finish.
My favorite CCR song!!! ❤ This is Grade A sauce.
I grew up on CCR and I love them so much! I recommend "I put a spell on you" It puts me in a mood I can't even explain! Lol! ✌😎
It's really clear this song makes you feel the exact same way that I do every time I hear it. Soooo nasty and swamp groovy. 😊✌️
OMG! That was such fun. The joy you two have is always appreciated, but this was next level and it was contagious. Thank you
These guys were just so Southern...great music I grew up in in Texas
I can feel the humidity coming off this song!
