    Love that you guys take the time to run experiments like this. The thermal pad + laptop cooling pad definitely extends the performance of the m2 air. It would be interesting to see what kind of gaming fps you could get in a comparison of the 10 core vs 8 core models with the mod vs stock.

    • @Raja995mh33
      @Raja995mh33 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it "extends" the performance but those thermal pads will completely kill your battery very fast.
      Apples engineers are not stupid. They designed this thing the way they did for reasons. Spreading out the heat to the entire aluminum chassis will heat up the battery to a very critical level and that's far from good.
      And that's aside from killing your warranty by doing this stupid thing.

    There was a video from another TH-camr, which called out the thermal pads solution. The thermal pads actually made the other components of the MBA to heat up to dangerous levels, including the battery. This is because the thermal pads transfer the heat to almost the entire aluminium case, which in turn causes the heat to spread to other components. I think it is important that you address this issue in your videos as well.

    • @marcochavanne
      @marcochavanne ปีที่แล้ว +23

    You guys truly are the GOAT. Crazy performance difference with the thermal pads and laptop cooler, I might have to get them (at least the pads, which I don’t have to lug around) for my Air!

    I have a laptop cooler on top of my stand as part of my desk set up at home. I have an M1 Macbook Air, and I just unplug it from my hub when I go out with it, and plug it back in when I get home, to use my monitor.
    My laptop just sits on top of the laptop cooler. Used it for years. Some nice blue lighting comes out of it too.

    See? Like I mentioned (asked) in one of your videos probably last week. Glad it helps. Thanks

    LOL. Another great video. I love how you guys review some of the things that many of us think about. Sure, most users will never try to push the MBA this way; however, it's nice to see someone test these computers to the limits (Plus, I don't void my warranty doing it, because you guys do it...). Interesting though, I can buy a $49 fan and change the way I use my MBA.

      I have been pushing my M1 air with thermal mod and fans for AAA beauty in Baldurs Gate for a year, works great!

    Hey Max Tech, I heard from other TH-camrs that using a thermal pad inside the M2 Macbook air is a bad idea because it puts more heat towards the battery, possibly leading to very bad results. Have you experienced any increase in battery temps? My M2 air is still weeks away, but I want to make sure that the thermal pad mod is a good idea.

    What a good test!!! I'm wondering What about the battery temp? Battery usually lose power and life time when works under higher temps. How does M2 MBP performs with the external fans?
