- List of the 100 most Iconic Video Game Sound Effects!
Iconic : Widely recognized and acknowledged
Sound Effect : A sound, other than speech or music, made artificially for use in a dramatic presentation.
I tried to choose the most iconic picks, pulling from many popular video games and considering their sound effects, but a list like this will always be subjective to some degree. Hopefully it's entertaining, if nothing else!
The list gets much more diverse after around halfway.
0:00 Intro
0:07 100-91
1:28 90-81
2:52 80-71
4:17 70-61
5:55 60-51
7:27 50-41
9:05 40-31
10:54 30-21
12:27 20-11
14:20 10-1
(I didn't include any sounds clearly made with human voices, or any jingles as per the definition of sound effect--I'm gonna' make those categories into their own top 100 list!)
If you enjoyed, subscribe!!! Next video is iconic video game jingles!
Huge shout out to my friend who helped me with this list!

a sound imprinted into a persons mind to be forever remembered
Most of these "iconic" lists are really up to the creator's personal experience, but I recognized almost all of these immediately despite playing less than half of the games. (I didn't even know that some of them CAME from video games?) Definitely iconic!
Makes me wonder: has this sadsack never played _DOOM?!_
@@ArcaneAzmadi If I'm the sadsack in question, then yes I've never played DOOM 😅
Exactly. This video is shit because he only puts the sound effects from games that are either super popular that everyone knows or super easy casual pick up and play games. He doesn’t put the sound effects from games that are just as iconic but just require more focus and patience to get deep into. Like, if he could put Dark Souls, he could have put DOOM.
@@outerspaceman7534 I think the point of the video was not "sounds from iconic video games," but "iconic sounds that happen to come from video games."
So it doesn't matter what games were used, what I'm impressed with is that the sounds are actually iconic in general society, aka well-known OUTSIDE of those specific gaming circles!
@@the-inatorinator Which were the ones you did not know came from videogames?
(P.S.: I'm also a fellow sadsack who hasn't played Doom either [yet], lol.)
"10 Giants"
*Puts down super mario bros 3 times*
you disagree?
@@Ensnare15 Halo was super impactful and important to the fps genre. Megaman put Capcom on the map and street fighter is still the face of fighting games. Tetris used to be the #1 most sold game, and has been on practically every system ever. Minecraft is THE #1 most sold game and is a cornerstone of modern day internet culture. Pokemon is the largest media franchise in the world by a massive margin. I get why you had 4 different mario franchises, but I personally don't think all four deserve the "big 10" more than the above games.
@@zl2835 It's not the 10 most importants games, it's the 10 most iconics sounds in general.
@@Ensnare15 thats not it I think its just because you put down Mario 3 times making it more like 8 giants
@@Ensnare15 neither pokémon nor zelda were on there🤔

these aren't voices !
@@Ensnare15 *Technically* they are, but I know what you mean
"the sound produced in a person's larynx and uttered through the mouth, as speech or song."
the argument you would be making is non-technical. even then, I would ask text scrolling sound in an RPG counts as a voice

ok but the classic minecraft hurt sound is weirdly well-known for how long it's been since it was removed

The editing and overall presentation on this one is top notch! Well done!
Looking forward to your next project!
5:06 That's the sound that plays when SM64 starts up, not the coin collection sound. I mean, it plays multiple times in a row, but it probably should've been the repeated sound, not the individual sound.
its the same exact sound ! I chose to play every sound individually for the most part
@@Ensnare15 Ok. I know the sound that plays when you collect a coin is the same sound as the sound that plays when the games is loaded up, just repeated multiple times very fast. I just didn't know whether you knew that or not. I'm not calling you stupid, just I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Most old games back then didn’t have a lot of memory so they had to re use sounds slowed or sped up.
Excellent job on these, can't wait for the video covering the jingles!
dude as someone learning to edit, this is invaluable and also SO MUCH WORK. Thank you so so much for creating this, knowing that you made this makes me want to learn more and get better!! Thank u
For sounds like "Hadouken!" and the Zelda puzzle sound, they will be in the next couple categories I make--so make sure to subscribe to see them.

"10 giants" sounds like a card match in Honafuda(ironic considering Nintendo's history)

2d games just hit different
A little surprised the "low hearts" sound from Zelda didn't make it in, though it could just be that I'm at low health so often, the beeping is engraved in my mind.

Even the pet the subscribe button sound is iconic from Among us memes, thanks to iconic super mario world credits theme. It just works
I was expecting Lavos's scream to be somewhere, that sound will always be in my head
can we appreciate how the "sans" one is written with comic sans font
Would have included the Doom door sound, the Pokeball sound and the Tomb Raider item sound where Lara goes "uh-huh" (tho it has a jingle attached). Otherwise great, comprehensive list
Edit: Just realized Lara's "uh-huh" counts as a voice, so nevermind
Doom Door was in there, but apparently its actually a sound from a sound collection that they purchased. Pokeball was in there but I ended up cutting it. Thank you for watching :))

i think most people knew kefka's laugh from sonic.exe rather than FF6 (including me)
i think its funny , how we can know the games just with a few unique sounds. f.e we can distinguish super mario with super mario world, just by the sounds of the coins or the Jumps...
you know
its wierd feeling nostalgic when you havent even played an old game
specifically (100-91 to 60-51)
cuz im 18

I really like how this video is done. It doesn't just have the sound and that's it. It includes a clip. Also, I can really tell the person who uploaded this definitely has a taste in games lol. Nintendo and Xbox took up 95% of the list.
Kricketune cry should be in the 10 giants list .
*DELELELE... Nah, I won't finish!*

I'll say, the fanf 1 main jump scare noise is pretty iconic.

i pulled it straight from here: th-cam.com/video/RK0WyUqrI54/w-d-xo.html
@@Ensnare15 I see. I don't remember Creepers, or the explosion effect that followed, sounding like that, or having that long of a delay. Then again, I started playing Minecraft at around 1.6, maybe they changed it at some point before then.

Most of the sounds you hear in Dark souls comes from the game Demon's souls
Mojang still hasn't fixed the door bug where the sounds are random and/or inverted.
That #68. You will hear it so very, very often.
Part of me feels like there probably should have been some sound effects from Doom and Quake in this video. The Quad Damage pickup sound in particular is pretty iconic.
Super Shotgun from Doom 2, armor and health pickups, the doors from doom
I mean it's a top 100 with the number of games in existence there's bound to be sounds that are excluded, hell you could make a top 100 iconic sounds without ever getting out of the 80's
The Sonic 3 Sky Sanctuary Zone teleporter sound/final boss laser effect might have been a good one
I heard the intervention sound in so many memes that I forgot that it came from cod.
Of course you had to include Kricketune. Its sound is just that memetic!
Gotta love the added detail of using lowercase comic sans for the sans portion of the video
The regenerador from Resident Evil 4. That breathing sound that sends shivers down our spines.
I couldn’t agree less with this video
This entire .wav is going straight into my Octatrack 💪🏽
These were great, I just wish you had made each one of them a bit longer.
Two sounds I expected the most: the Frying Pan sound and then"Knockout!" from Cuphead
