@@boomerthedingo2196 If by "natural extension" you mean Naughty Dog somehow crammed hidden crates in every level that wasn't Cold Hard Crash, or maybe had bouncing metal crates everywhere, then yes.

The hidden boxes, the N.Verted levels, the extra character stages that lead to the regular stages, the 3 deaths or less gem, the loading times... It all just builds up to a game whos levels you are forced to play over and over again, most of the time for things that seem either unfair or unnessescary.
Finally someone who understands the philosophy of classic Crash games! As someone who has fully completed all the main Crash games including 4, I can say this mod was well needed. This might as well be the definitive edition of the game. Thank you so much for making this mod.
Now if only I could add this to my PS4 copy. I might actually beat it, then 😂 The original is fun, but fuck does it just have too much shit to do for 100%

Thank you SO much for this! My biggest issue with Crash 4 wasn't the story, or the character designs, or even the base gameplay. It was the obscene level of gem padding, unfair challenge cliff, balls-achingly difficult trials and the lack of Aku-Aku and Checkpoint crates. With these simple things introduced to the game, it is FINALLY made playable for this old-school Crash fanatic. If I could, I'd kiss ya' through my computer screen!

That was my biggest issue with Crash 4 IAT. Like, it looks like a Crash game, kinda feels like a Crash game, there are plenty of references to the older games, but something is just off especially with the difficulty curves and level design. Crash games always liked to throw in challenges to keep you on your toes especially in Crash 1, but it was never like how TfB made Crash 4 which is just over the top in the worst way possible.
It always felt like crash, except all the required masks to complete levels, the levels were Madd uncompleteable without the using the new masks over all
@@ovite1240 When playing the original games, you would naturally want to 100% them because they were JUST difficult enough to warrant the challenge. Crash 4 is fucking stupid with its difficulty. It makes going through the whole game a much bigger chore. Like yeah, I COULD just ignore all the crates and just get to the end of the level, but where's the fun in that? Whenever I get to a difficult section, or finally get a gem I was struggling with, it's never a "yes, i finally got it!" moment, it's a "OH THANK YOU GOD, THE PAIN IS FINALLY OVER" moment. This mod helps the game feel MUCH more in-line with the design with the older games; JUST hard enough but not stupid.

YES!! This is something I’ve wanted for ages! I don’t have the PC version, but I am SO GLAD someone went ahead and made a mod of the game that makes it *easier.* This is the best for this game ever!
I'm glad this exists so more people can enjoy crash 4, but a lot of the stuff changed or removed I didn't mind, or in some cases, liked. The hidden crates movement and the fairer time trials are easily the best thing about it.
This looks like a noteworthy improvement. In the vanilla game simply doing a story playthrough isn't anything too terrible, though it's still sometimes harder than anything in the original trilogy. Full completion on the other hand is masochistically insane. It's nice to see a mod released with dialing this back in mind.

Crash 4 is the only Crash game I didn't get 100% and just stop trying after few hours, I just don't get how the game was released the way it is. I would love to see the developers integrating your mod (maybe as a different game mode) in all platforms (and maybe hiring you or at least paying you haha), but I have almost no hopes for that. All in all, thank you so much again, I'm just amazed by how wonderful your mod is.
I hate how this game did away with one perk of the original trilogy. Of course, in Crash 1, you can enter a level, exit the level after finding a mask, and keep the mask. While this was removed in both 2 and 3, both games let you keep the mask if you beat the level with it. By doing this, you can then go back to a level you were struggling with armed with two extra hit points, making things easier. Crash 4 doesn't let you do this, and it sorely needs it ESPECIALLY with those Perfect Relics.

I love this game normally, I dont really mind the secrets anymore. But I'm so glad N. Verted is gone and all the redundant clear gems are gone. Will be much more fun to revisit 100%
This game is my favorite Crash game to finish casually, but completion is a nightmare. Not necessarily for the difficulty, but because of how often you have to repeat stuff for no reason. Removing N-verted mode and toning down hidden boxes fixes pretty much all of my problems.

This is awesome, it makes me want to re-buy Crash 4 on PC just to play it with this mod. Crash 4 was amazing on the initial playthrough, but trying to 100% it was a nightmare. The hidden boxes were the most egregious part, I’ve never needed a game guide to complete a crash bandicoot game before this.

No joke, I just recently did a run of Crash 4 where I specifically grabbed all the wumpa gems in the normal levels and all gems in the N'Verted levels so I could use that savefile as a basis for future runs because the completion process and bloat bothered me that much But this... THIS is what I really wanted. You're a damn hero!
I was always of the idea that even if they just removed the perfect relics, the game would be infinitely more fun to complete. But this. This is everything I could hope for. I mean it's not like I'm going to play it anytime soon since I don't think my PC would even handle crash 4 but it's great to know you can actually complete it without being a masochist. Bravo.
You should add Crystals into the game too! I know they’re kind of useless, but I still love collecting them and it would really make the game feel fully complete along with all these other (much needed) improvements. Great job on this, my favorite way to play Crash Bandicoot games was always going for 100%, and I was really sad that was made unfun in Crash 4.
Have you considered keeping the aesthetic changes of N. Verted mode as an optional toggle? No redundant collectables or speed changes, just the visual and audio effects
I’d like to consider myself a good Crash Bandicoot player; I got all of the achievements for N. Sane Trilogy when it came to PC (including all Gold relics, even Stormy Ascent), and just recently I got 100% completion in Wrath of Cortex for the first time (only 2 Sapphire relics out of 25 required) …man, Crash 4 was soul-draining to play. I actually didn’t complete the game, I stopped after one of those East Asia levels maybe 1/3rd into the game (one where you had to spin glide to multiple floating platforms over a lake/death pit) and I was done 😭 might give it another try with this mod sometime
I would personally make so each level has 3 gems (hidden, all boxes and 80% wumpa), you get the skins by getting all the 3 gems in each level and the golden relics are the ones required for completion (and I personally wouldn't change much of the level design outside of the hidden boxes and more aku aku crates, i like how unforgiven and challenging the game can be) Other than that, amazing mod honestly! It really fixes the only problem I had with the game...i can't wait to play it. Also, I'm not sure how hard that would be to implement (probably a lot), but i think it would be cool that, if you bring back the n verted levels, you beat them by starting at the end of the level and going to the start (while the camera is behind crash, of course). It would require changes in the level design, but i feel like it would make those levels much more unique
This is amazing work! I adore this game so much, but Toys 4 Bob got much too carried away. Amazing! This might become an essential mod for everyone who plays the PC version.
While it is kinda funny that the gems for the Wumpa fruits were completely removed instead of only leaving the 80% one in it or so, the fact you need 90% of the fruit in a level to get the respective costume is class! The removal of the 3 deaths or less gems is a decision I'm very much on board for too, although I wonder if a Death Trial of sorts could've worked as a neat addition in conjunction with the Time Trials. But I guess that's what the Flashback Tapes are for anyways. Only requiring all gems (which are far less and just the right amount for a good challenge through the level), the Flashback Perfection Medals and the Sapphire Relics (not Gold? I mean, ok I guess) to get 104% is a lot more palatable, gotta say. And all the other rebalances done to everything else pretty much make this a more approachable experience to not just anyone, but Cash Banooca fans as well. I know this game had its die hard fans, and that there's this whole saying of "a game for everyone is a game for no one", but this game was really bloated and obnoxious in some of its parts for no good reason.

@@Mike14264 nope just need sapphire to do it, I did a marathon of them the other month and I didn't try too hard with the relics, about 1/3 were sapphire 3/6 were gold and the rest were plat. I didn't even play the secret Dino level or play future frenzy

Rush Hour’s N Verted deaths gem is one of the very few gems I didn’t get, a testament to just how brutal that stage is for its insane length. I somehow managed to get the one for the regular stage so the thought of doing it again with those slow and floaty underwater physics just didn’t seem worth trying. Splitting the level into two is possibly the single greatest act of mercy this mod could’ve done.
Hopefully Crash Bandicoot 5 whenever that releases will have taken notes from what the majority of fans _really_ want instead of making the completion of a game 20x more grueling than it had any right to be.
I don't mind some extra difficulty in games but even just a casual run through Crash 4 was such a mentally draining experience, eventually I just stopped trying to collect everything, and then ended up not even finishing it because what's the point when collecting all the things is half the reason of playing a Crash game.. Simply running through the map like World 1 of a Mario game is boring. Then the N.Verted levels unlocked.. haha. No. This game isn't challenging to complete, it's straight up sadistic. People have even warned others to absolutely NOT do 100%, which I don't think I've ever seen anyone say about a collectionist game before. I don't exactly need my hand held through a game, hell some of my favourites are notoriously difficult ones like Don't Starve and Rimworld, but also I don't need it to give me an aneurysm either. This mod seems to offer a good balance, and well thought out as well. I might have to give it a try.
I think the only real problems I have with the game are the insanely perfect relics, and the time trials. Both of these are an issue because the levels are _too damn long._ If they were the length of the original Crash 1 levels, then failing wouldn't be too frustrating. Same with Crash 3. The levels are short enough to be able to time trial them again.
I found the base games difficulty nearly perfect (although not being able to take aku into other levels was a stupid choice)...but my god they went so overboard with the completion requirements. Ive went back 3 times over the years to fully complete this game but it just mentally drains me, and thats me not even ever touching the time trials. All the stupidly hidden boxes in basically every level...and having to play perfectly in every section of every level for the perfect relics.... I may give this a shot in the near future, but does it work with pre existing save files?
I lov you. Btw, someone could make a mod adding the death routes with more colored gems and improving the N.Tropies battle. Excellent mod, this even makes me want to reinstall Crash 4 again.
Amazing what proper game design can do, like, the Vanilla game feels like Crash Bandicoot Kaizo. I have been enjoying a lot more the game once I can see all the crates and I don't feel the pressure of doing a perfect run to try to complete the game. Hard games are fine, but I don't know if Crash Bandicoot is the prime example of a "high ceiling difficulty".
Crash 4 is my favorite 3D platformer and this seems like a great quality of life mod that the game needed. I would get this game for the third time but on PC, but I don't want to give Microsoft/Activision my money.
@@simone5760 oh I know that's an option, but combined with not wanting 30gb taken up my space and that I'm fine with how base Crash 4 is, with my only big complaint being inverted levels being required, I'm kinda not motivated to do so.
There's only 1 more thing needed: the ability to go back up that slope at the end of Run It Bayou. It's so trash to start over 'cause you missed a box in what SHOULD be a spot you can easily backtrack on. It genuinely felt like Toys for Bob just added so much bullshit and unnecessary padding to justify the 40$ price. It was so frustrating that it made me despise some of the levels in the game (for me, Jetboard Jetty and Bears Repeating was def one of those) Again, thank you so much for this mod. I salute you for your service!
Other stuff I'd look into: Restarting the lvl should load as fast as when it loads from the start after a death. Splitting Crash Landed into 2-3 levels. Currently, it's gigantic and a total pain to perfect.

Ikr normally in crash games I expect to miss a few boxes 5 or 6 times maximum but in crash 4 without a guide or this mod it is downright unplayable.

Glad this mod adds more Aku Aku crates. I don't think I ever activated Aku Aku invincibility ONCE in this game.

Instead of removing inverted mode, you can just make normal and inverted levels share the same gems, so people can complete the game their own way

But this. This is everything I could hope for. I mean it's not like I'm going to play it anytime soon since I don't think my PC would even handle crash 4 but it's great to know you can actually complete it without being a masochist. Bravo.

You should add Crystals into the game too! I know they’re kind of useless, but I still love collecting them and it would really make the game feel fully complete along with all these other (much needed) improvements.
Great job on this, my favorite way to play Crash Bandicoot games was always going for 100%, and I was really sad that was made unfun in Crash 4.

Have you considered keeping the aesthetic changes of N. Verted mode as an optional toggle?
No redundant collectables or speed changes, just the visual and audio effects

I’d like to consider myself a good Crash Bandicoot player; I got all of the achievements for N. Sane Trilogy when it came to PC (including all Gold relics, even Stormy Ascent), and just recently I got 100% completion in Wrath of Cortex for the first time (only 2 Sapphire relics out of 25 required)
…man, Crash 4 was soul-draining to play. I actually didn’t complete the game, I stopped after one of those East Asia levels maybe 1/3rd into the game (one where you had to spin glide to multiple floating platforms over a lake/death pit) and I was done 😭 might give it another try with this mod sometime
I would personally make so each level has 3 gems (hidden, all boxes and 80% wumpa), you get the skins by getting all the 3 gems in each level and the golden relics are the ones required for completion (and I personally wouldn't change much of the level design outside of the hidden boxes and more aku aku crates, i like how unforgiven and challenging the game can be)
Other than that, amazing mod honestly! It really fixes the only problem I had with the game...i can't wait to play it.
Also, I'm not sure how hard that would be to implement (probably a lot), but i think it would be cool that, if you bring back the n verted levels, you beat them by starting at the end of the level and going to the start (while the camera is behind crash, of course). It would require changes in the level design, but i feel like it would make those levels much more unique

This is amazing work! I adore this game so much, but Toys 4 Bob got much too carried away. Amazing! This might become an essential mod for everyone who plays the PC version.
While it is kinda funny that the gems for the Wumpa fruits were completely removed instead of only leaving the 80% one in it or so, the fact you need 90% of the fruit in a level to get the respective costume is class!
The removal of the 3 deaths or less gems is a decision I'm very much on board for too, although I wonder if a Death Trial of sorts could've worked as a neat addition in conjunction with the Time Trials. But I guess that's what the Flashback Tapes are for anyways.
Only requiring all gems (which are far less and just the right amount for a good challenge through the level), the Flashback Perfection Medals and the Sapphire Relics (not Gold? I mean, ok I guess) to get 104% is a lot more palatable, gotta say.
And all the other rebalances done to everything else pretty much make this a more approachable experience to not just anyone, but Cash Banooca fans as well. I know this game had its die hard fans, and that there's this whole saying of "a game for everyone is a game for no one", but this game was really bloated and obnoxious in some of its parts for no good reason.
I mean you only needed sapphire in Crash 3, so I think that makes sense.

@@Mike14264 nope just need sapphire to do it, I did a marathon of them the other month and I didn't try too hard with the relics, about 1/3 were sapphire 3/6 were gold and the rest were plat. I didn't even play the secret Dino level or play future frenzy

crash 4 is a great game but its crazy how much of a difference this makes
Rush Hour’s N Verted deaths gem is one of the very few gems I didn’t get, a testament to just how brutal that stage is for its insane length. I somehow managed to get the one for the regular stage so the thought of doing it again with those slow and floaty underwater physics just didn’t seem worth trying. Splitting the level into two is possibly the single greatest act of mercy this mod could’ve done.

I still have some core issues with this game to consider it one of the best, but it is definitely way better this way.
Hopefully Crash Bandicoot 5 whenever that releases will have taken notes from what the majority of fans _really_ want instead of making the completion of a game 20x more grueling than it had any right to be.
I don't mind some extra difficulty in games but even just a casual run through Crash 4 was such a mentally draining experience, eventually I just stopped trying to collect everything, and then ended up not even finishing it because what's the point when collecting all the things is half the reason of playing a Crash game.. Simply running through the map like World 1 of a Mario game is boring.
Then the N.Verted levels unlocked.. haha. No. This game isn't challenging to complete, it's straight up sadistic. People have even warned others to absolutely NOT do 100%, which I don't think I've ever seen anyone say about a collectionist game before. I don't exactly need my hand held through a game, hell some of my favourites are notoriously difficult ones like Don't Starve and Rimworld, but also I don't need it to give me an aneurysm either.
This mod seems to offer a good balance, and well thought out as well. I might have to give it a try.
I think the only real problems I have with the game are the insanely perfect relics, and the time trials.
Both of these are an issue because the levels are _too damn long._ If they were the length of the original Crash 1 levels, then failing wouldn't be too frustrating. Same with Crash 3. The levels are short enough to be able to time trial them again.

I found the base games difficulty nearly perfect (although not being able to take aku into other levels was a stupid choice)...but my god they went so overboard with the completion requirements.
Ive went back 3 times over the years to fully complete this game but it just mentally drains me, and thats me not even ever touching the time trials. All the stupidly hidden boxes in basically every level...and having to play perfectly in every section of every level for the perfect relics....
I may give this a shot in the near future, but does it work with pre existing save files?

Excellent mod, this even makes me want to reinstall Crash 4 again.
Amazing what proper game design can do, like, the Vanilla game feels like Crash Bandicoot Kaizo. I have been enjoying a lot more the game once I can see all the crates and I don't feel the pressure of doing a perfect run to try to complete the game. Hard games are fine, but I don't know if Crash Bandicoot is the prime example of a "high ceiling difficulty".
Love the relic changes. They were always too easy to get once you understand how the game works. Some challenge with master relics now.
Crash 4 is my favorite 3D platformer and this seems like a great quality of life mod that the game needed. I would get this game for the third time but on PC, but I don't want to give Microsoft/Activision my money.

@@simone5760 oh I know that's an option, but combined with not wanting 30gb taken up my space and that I'm fine with how base Crash 4 is, with my only big complaint being inverted levels being required, I'm kinda not motivated to do so.

There's only 1 more thing needed: the ability to go back up that slope at the end of Run It Bayou. It's so trash to start over 'cause you missed a box in what SHOULD be a spot you can easily backtrack on. This mod vastly improved and fixed all of the issues I had with Crash 4's completion route. It genuinely felt like Toys for Bob just added so much bullshit and unnecessary padding to justify the 40$ price. It was so frustrating that it made me despise some of the levels in the game (for me, Jetboard Jetty and Bears Repeating was def one of those)

Other stuff I'd look into:
Restarting the lvl should load as fast as when it loads from the start after a death.
Splitting Crash Landed into 2-3 levels. Currently, it's gigantic and a total pain to perfect.
My worst gripe was replaying levels again when you unlocked side characters, just to see one cutscene, sometimes over half a level again.
In my mind, Toy for Bob almost understood Crash bandicoot and seeing this encourages me more to do 100%.
Quick question, is there a Crash Trilogy mod that makes the jumping NOT garbage?
