You fixed the issue with having to repeat half of the main level after a timeline level and reintegrated N. Verted levels so that they are a completely optional way to collect the same gems as in the normal levels rather than additional gems that require playing them for completion. I respect that.

This game is absurdly difficult even for a crash veteran who played the trilogy back in 2001. This mod makes everything less tedious and I think i want actually complete this game now.

I've never fully completed Crash 4, because doing so quickly started to become frustrating and/or tedious for all the issues you've addressed in this mod (and that's coming from someone who loves Crash 4 otherwise and has completed every other console game in the series). I very much want to give this mod a try someday, because judging from the trailer, I don't think I'd ever replay Crash 4 without it, and I actually feel compelled to complete it under the rules you've implemented. Kudos for the fantastic work on display!
I read your analysis on Crashmania back in the day, I reread it now and I find myself agreeing with pretty much all of your points. My experience may have been slightly different, because I love conquering hard challenges (which this game definitely has) and have a high tolerance for frustration, but even my first time was soured by the amount of repetition and unfair bullshit. I do recommend you give it a try, pretty much all of the criticisms that you and others have had were addressed. It's a vastly different experience, but one that's still true to the spirit of Crash 4. 🙂

I was already happy with the fact that you tied the costumes to the wumpaa fruits instead of the gems. Then you just casually threw in the fact that critically hidden crates are gone now, and I suddenly became SO excited for this mode. I would ABSOLUTELY play this version from now on if I had a good PC
This sounds absolutely amazing! It's like a checklist of all the things I wished were different in Crash 4. I actually did a playthrough (maybe like 6 months ago) where I only collected the wumpa gems, below 3 deaths gems, and all the N'Verted gems. Just so I'd have that save to start with for all future playthroughs, so I'd never have to bother with the N'Verted mode or the useless bloat gems again. But this mod seems much, much better than that plan! All the other changes sound great too, and I'm looking forward to seeing the new crate puzzles/challenges and hidden gems - I'm definitely going to give it a shot soon. You're a legned, Rayrobi!

Omg yes this is everything iv wanted and i love you soo much for removing the crash sections from the timeline levels no idea why they thought thsoes was a good idea.
By the way thanks for the 3D icon inclusion in this mod, its a beautiful touch to the UI which felt lacking in the game despite being a modern release.

i would've vastly prefered literally everything you did in this mod over what we got. I play a lot of difficult games but Crash 4 was not only difficult, but unfair, drawn out and needlessly tedious. Thank you, i might actually bother to 100% it. I love platformers but this was a chore to play

I appreciate the N-verted levels being optional and not removed! It's too bad they're not mirrored though, since I think that's a cool choice for an "alternate level". Honestly I don't think it'd be bad if they were required but had no gems in them, if that's how you're able to implement them as they were intended, while also cutting the fat. This mod is SUCH a service, with fair completion!

I think they went overboard with this. Also their design philosophy felt very much like "okay, how can we make this even harder" not better, or more fun, but harder. I think the totally backwards triple spin design is a testament to that. Resulting in a very frustrating game to complete

I bought Crash 4 a long time ago and never played it. Then heard about certain issues and features and I decided to wait. A moment like THIS MOD is what I've been waiitng for. Thank you so much.
The game was clearly made for all those "no hit, all collectibles, fastest time" TH-cam vidoes and not much anyone else, it's really over the top. I got them all, but makes me wonder if the mod still triggers achievements.
Some suggestions I have to make this an even better mod: -Make the life crates for the other characters have their face on it instead of crash -Give cortex uka uka (even if it doesn't make sense story wise) -Have N-verted mode be a new game plus with slightly remixed level design with few checkpoints and no aku crates with the player having to actually engage with the gimmick of each world such as needing to spin paint in the pirate world to even be able to stand on platforms or having enemies and platforms move faster in the marsh world. N-verted mode was a cool idea, but it was just executed poorly, and I think this might be a better way of implementing it. (Also since its just a new game plus it would just be for the pros just like the highest tier of time relics and would not be required for completion and maybe just throw in a skin for 208% completion) -Have the aiming on cortexs blaster, tawnas hook, and dingos vacuum shooting tnt have a bigger lock on especially in 3d sections -rework the multiplayer battle modes to be split screen and be focused on reaching the end of a level with the most amount of score from killed enemies, wumpa fruit, and boxes similar to mario 3d worlds multiplayer -Have a more animated and lively main menu similar to the classics. That is really everything I could possibly think of and even then a reworked battle mode and N-verted mode could be seen as overkill so if that happens or not I will still be happy with this amazing rework that takes a almost perfect game and turns it into one and then some. I wish you the best of luck.
If i could ask for one thing, it would be keeping the mask for next levels like the other games, without the mod theres only a few maps that u can get masks lvl 3 and thats if you dont get hit

This is the Crash bandicoot 4 mod of all Crash Bandicoot 4 mods! This is literally total perfection to my eyes! Plus, I'm sure that I have a couple of ideas/suggestions to include to this mod at some point when they come to mind.
I never even played most of the game on my PS4 just because the game felt odd from the N-Sane trilogy playthrough. Not sure if this fixes the core game feel at all, but its nice to see that the game feeling off isnt just a me thing. Though the feeling could have been that the crash gameloop isn't interesting anymore. I tried to play N-Sane on my laptop getting performance issues and I barely played my 2nd playthrough on switch. I know the games are great, but it could be that I have played higher level platformers causing simpler stuff like crash to not hit the way I like. After all, I love Pseudoregalia because of how smooth and freeing it is. Plus my experience with it isn't finished with all the tech and alternative paths I haven't taken yet. Crash on the other hand doesn't feel as expansive. I don't know though. I still really like Crash, but I need more reason to play it now that I have hit a lot of the gameplay's mental and physical boundaries.
some of these changes I like, like the hidden crate changes & fairer completion requirements, but others just look like crash 4 for baby's, if I get the mod can I equip certain elements & not others
I think this is a better improvement from the previous version. Purple gem automatically makes this good. I do think you should've left the gem rewards for wumpas as they made stacking wumpas satisfying. Could be their own collectables like "rare" wumpas but I doubt its, its easy to suggest something than actually going into the code to modify them. Excellent vision regardless
This mod does nearly everything od want for the base game. Only thing i wouldn't want are more checkpoints and aku akus, as i do really like the difficulty of the game as is.
I loved the challenge of the game myself, however, I found that the game seriously lacked checkpoints and Aku Akus in certain spots. I didn't add them _just because_ I wanted to make the game easier, but because some parts of the game were really unbalanced. For example, there were quite a few sections that were twice the length of most others. Having sections these long doesn't make things difficult, just more annoying when you fail, because you have to navigate the same obstacles _again_ . It was annoying even for a skilled player like myself, so you can imagine how less skilled players must have felt, because it takes even longer for them. It's yet another example of forced repetition that was a fundamental flaw of this game. Also, the number of Aku Aku crates were highly inconsistent throughout the game. Crash Landed, for example, had 8 (!), when it really didn't need that many (I removed a few in fact). But there were a lot of levels with only 1 or even 0, which definitely shouldn't be a thing in these long levels.
@Rayrobi_CB I mean having longer stretches and tougher obstacles with having to replay portions when you fail is the general idea for platformers. It's the extent of these things that make them more or less challenging. And aside from a handful of hazards, I found the length and difficulty of sections to be a good level of challenge. One of the final levels of the game is one of my favorites in the series because of the difficulty there via the obstacles to get through and the lack of checkpoints. And even then if you died alot in many of these longer portions, the game would add checkpoints anyway to help make it easier.
As much as I critiqued the original release, it’s still solid for its time. Now it seems like the mod is truly an enhanced version while still maintaining the great challenge the game provides. Thank you for indirectly taking this feedback I left in the forum 😅👍
It would be nice if some levels still had a get all the boxes without dying once gem, specifically the levels where you earn a coloured gem just like crash 1
I got it, I installed it but only some of it works. The purple menus work but the main mod doesn't. I also get white squares in place of the presumably new icons. I started a new file and played through the 2 intro levels, and I didn't notice any main mod changes. The pak files are all in the same folder, I followed the instructions to a T, any idea what the issue could be? Thx!

Crash 4 is a great game but I think it relies on bit too much padding, luckily most of it is ( sort of) optional. Thank you for making this mod.

After all, I love Pseudoregalia because of how smooth and freeing it is. Plus my experience with it isn't finished with all the tech and alternative paths I haven't taken yet. Crash on the other hand doesn't feel as expansive. I don't know though. I still really like Crash, but I need more reason to play it now that I have hit a lot of the gameplay's mental and physical boundaries.

some of these changes I like, like the hidden crate changes & fairer completion requirements, but others just look like crash 4 for baby's, if I get the mod can I equip certain elements & not others

I think this is a better improvement from the previous version. Purple gem automatically makes this good. I do think you should've left the gem rewards for wumpas as they made stacking wumpas satisfying. Could be their own collectables like "rare" wumpas but I doubt its, its easy to suggest something than actually going into the code to modify them. Excellent vision regardless

This mod does nearly everything od want for the base game. Only thing i wouldn't want are more checkpoints and aku akus, as i do really like the difficulty of the game as is.
I loved the challenge of the game myself, however, I found that the game seriously lacked checkpoints and Aku Akus in certain spots. I didn't add them _just because_ I wanted to make the game easier, but because some parts of the game were really unbalanced.
For example, there were quite a few sections that were twice the length of most others. Having sections these long doesn't make things difficult, just more annoying when you fail, because you have to navigate the same obstacles _again_ . It was annoying even for a skilled player like myself, so you can imagine how less skilled players must have felt, because it takes even longer for them. It's yet another example of forced repetition that was a fundamental flaw of this game.
Also, the number of Aku Aku crates were highly inconsistent throughout the game. Crash Landed, for example, had 8 (!), when it really didn't need that many (I removed a few in fact). But there were a lot of levels with only 1 or even 0, which definitely shouldn't be a thing in these long levels.
@Rayrobi_CB I mean having longer stretches and tougher obstacles with having to replay portions when you fail is the general idea for platformers. It's the extent of these things that make them more or less challenging. And aside from a handful of hazards, I found the length and difficulty of sections to be a good level of challenge. One of the final levels of the game is one of my favorites in the series because of the difficulty there via the obstacles to get through and the lack of checkpoints. And even then if you died alot in many of these longer portions, the game would add checkpoints anyway to help make it easier.
I'm already more than halfway through playing the previous version and suddenly this comes out? Ah well.
As much as I critiqued the original release, it’s still solid for its time. Now it seems like the mod is truly an enhanced version while still maintaining the great challenge the game provides. Thank you for indirectly taking this feedback I left in the forum 😅👍

I got it, I installed it but only some of it works.
The purple menus work but the main mod doesn't. I also get white squares in place of the presumably new icons.
I started a new file and played through the 2 intro levels, and I didn't notice any main mod changes.
The pak files are all in the same folder, I followed the instructions to a T, any idea what the issue could be?

Your save files will be fine. Anything you achieve in either the vanilla or modded versions will carry over, and nothing will be lost.

Yeah , when I loaded my save file it gave me the 100 and the 106 achievements
Yes you can and actually, I was on the N.Brio world when I installed the mod and when I entered the map suddenly the Achivement of "Collect Half of the gems" pop in xD
