fiber is different - you can take popcorn - or potatoe - I am sure you know which works by Crohns. 😉 popcorn scratches through your gut, makes pain ... but potatoe is better, maybe sweetpotatoe works for you. Maybe white rice works better than wholegrain rice. Maybe a littel bit more procressed food, works better than whole foods - I think about oatmeal instead of oats. Boil, mix and cook your whole fruit foods, maybe smoothies work for you. All the best, 🙋🏻‍♀️

@@bart-kay I agree - most people need some quality animal products to maintain optimal health. • @OswaldDigestiveClinic

@Jasmin Hi Jasmin! Smart to avoid refined oils. Avocado oil for cooking and extra virgin cold pressed olive oil for non-heat are smart go-to's. The amount can depend upon the person and their genetics as far as how much fat is good for them (such as, ApoE genetics). Peanut Butter can have a high risk of mold, so watch for that, hemp seeds are great. A big gap for most people is that we don't get in enough omega 3s. This is tricky for me, personally, because eating fish is a number one contributor to environmental damage (most people don't know that - it's even more than using plastic, as 50% of the plastic waste in the oceans come from the fishing industry, and we are overfishing / overeating fish which off balances the ecosystem in the waters, BUT, of course there are lots of positive health benefits that can come from fish). Does this help?

@Jasmin Hi Jasmin - Most people would not consider cold pressed olive and avocado oil as refined, and for PB I did say "could" - just a consideration and something I would avoid if someone is struggling with any sort of mold issue, still, considering how it's grown even when not in third world countries. But yes, likely not an issue for most. Most people are indeed low in omega 3s for the amount shown to be most protective. And if ground flax, it shouldn't just come out the other end lol. But all good! It sounds like you enjoy the plan your on and it's working for you and that's all that matters!

After 1,5 year going whole food plant based I had issues with a lot of gas and intestinal issues like incomplete emptying and/or diarrea and/or constipation. Tried a lot of things like supplements for the breakdown of the fibers etc. I thoroughly believe all the claims that plant based diet will do wonders for your health but I think my gut is so fucked up from 20+ years of meat eating that I cant go vegan anymore. 1,5 years of patiently allowing for the change to happen and still I was getting super gassy with terrible smell and having really bad issues with the gut (everything else felt great). After talking to the sibo-specialist gojiman after having sibo I still didnt manage to resolve the issue. So now I eat pasta and meat and I have zero issues with my gut, I feel better but I know this is not a solution, this is me ignoring the problem. But the stress it caused me is more dentrimental than the diet I have. I want to go back to veganism and plant based diet. I just dont know how to do it anymore because of all the issues I get. Not everyone can do a vegan diet. I did veganism for 3 years. Eventually I started getting bad gut pains, sharp stabbing pains after eaten vegan meal. It could have been the high fiber as I was eating whole foods plant based. And before anyone bothers to say I didn't do it right. I did do it right and planned my meals to perfection taking account of all minerals and vitamins needed. But anyway after a while I started to noticed cavities in my teeth and no I didn't eat lots of fruit either, it was balanced. Turned back to a natural way of eating including meats and still whole plant foods. Issue has gone, no more gut killing pains and no more cavities starting to form. The other cavities have not progressed. So basically veganism is not for everyone. I applaud those that do it for life regardless if it's not good for their health. But I must say I felt amazingly for the first year on the diet. This might actually be more to do with removing junk foods (I actually never ate much of it in the first place). But anyway just listen to your body.

      4. They actually eat a lot of special, bitter herbs which counteract the negative effects of their diet (see the special soup which is a very important component in their fare)
      5. They used to do as much cardio, or perhaps more, as do professional athletes...
      6. It could easily be argued that they would do much better if their fare was based on colorful fruits and vegetables instead, as their regimen is otherwise very healthy (being out in nature all day everyday, stress life, intense cardio, sleeping well, etc.)

I'm not advocating for keto here, I'm in fact vegan. But I've had IBS for pretty much forever, since I was a kid. Recently, about 2 months after going vegan I had my second bad flare up, first one being some 8 years earlier. I'd already been struggling with weight loss and I lost 4 kg in just a few days. Depression, fatigue, diarrhea. This time I knew better what to do so I went on a fast immediately, not that I had any appetite anyway. I haven't taken any medicine other than a few anti diarrhea pills but I also changed my diet. Im avoiding any high fodmap foods and this is working. I've started regaining weight slowly and feel much better overall. And because avoiding high fodmap foods means avoiding many plants, this means plant based diet is not always the right choice for people with IBS. I also reintroduced small portions of animal protein, chicken for now into my diet and it's helping me right now. So as much as I love being vegan and still believe it's the right choice for healthy people, those with IBS may need some meat in their diets for protein and other nutrients because beans and lentils, for example, are our of question for me.

Meat doesnt help. Its probably because you added too much fibers too fast. Increase the intake slowly.

I got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis while being vegan for 4 years.
I made sure I cook everything by myself no fast food, no convenient food, no meat replacements, no sugar etc.
Not saying that this isn't true what Dr. Greger is stating here but I can say that the person is individual when it comes to diet. I now have to eat meat just because my protein source was mostly beans, lentils, peas, soy brown rice, chickpeas and so on. Which I can't simply digest anymore because of the fiber. I get massive problems the Gas is killing me and also I get diarrhea very fast. Even if I soak it overnight for example the beas lentils and chickpeas.
But I was vegan for 4 years so it's very weird that I can't do it anymore I ate stuff like that everyday with no Problem!
Now I can live a somewhat normal Life when eating organic meat once or twice a week.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

I look forward to ethically lab cultured meat and dairy so that people can safely consume these things without harming animals, humans, or the environment and don't have to be concerned about things like contaminants or pollutants.

I noticed you didn't mention nuts or seeds as your protein sources. Did you avoid them if so are you allergic to them? You mentioned diarrhea, I have read of things like parasites causing diarrhea.

4 years is nothing in a life, to allow your gut to heal you have to avoid insoluble fibers foods (legumes, grains, nuts, raw vegetables, seeds and peels of plants, spices and herbs) and focus on soluble fibers foods like ripe soft fruits, potatoes and well cooked vegetables, we dont need legumes/nuts/grains/seeds especially short term during health phase because protein deficiency is a myth as long as you eat enough calories, more details on "high carb health channel".

@@chiyerano Nuts and seeds, legumes, whole grains and raw vegetables are irritating on the inflammed gut because full of insoluble fibers and contains 0 water.

When I’ve had diarrhea very fast it was because my gut bacteria was destroyed (like from taking antibiotics.)
