This makes me think, wouldn't you rather spend most of the 'wedding funds' on your honeymoon instead of just the wedding *day* , I mean what would be better, a fun adventurous trip with the one you love or *one* day that in itself is so hectic, you can't really enjoy it.

One thing that I observe and quite evident is the way they look at India which is very much sourced from Bollywood and a lot contorted and irrespective of region they say their roots are. Wedding in Chennai was no different than wedding in Jaipur which makes India look like bland place instead of the very vibrant and diverse this nation is (in my opinion no other nation is anything like India). I am from UP and love the way even Bihar is so different (in fact central, western and eastern UP are quite unique in their own way) let alone north and south India. Diversity makes the whole experience so rich and fulfilling. I would rather love to see a core Tamil wedding than what Netflix had to offer (Khichdi).

Well!! Being in US for now 2+ years, I can say that the show is made not just to promote the wedding planners and businesses but also for those non-Indian people across the world. Netflix is available in more than 100 countries and some of the most major countries in the world. Promoting such shows, showing big fat wedding without giving any information about how rich the individual families are, will definitely help others around the world to come out of their stereotypical "India is a poor country" bubble. What do you think?
Surprisingly the show was suggested to me by a friend's colleague who is an American, and whose jaws dropped while watching the 3 episode series. Right now, he wants to dive deep into Indian culture and wants to explore it. Let see how far that will go.
Coming from middle class family my review was the same as yours, I didn't even watch after the first episode as I can't bear and support the theory of being unnecessary extravagant.

What is disturbing for me regarding such shows is the millennial though provoked by such superficial event management about weddings. For example, after I got married (where I chose to keep my expenses at a minimum, did not let my father pay for my entire wedding, and spent almost half the total money spent myself), a junior of mine tormented her father for a Sabyasachi lehenga and spent lavishly on her wedding just for the Gram, spending nothing but be a spoilt brat in a middle-class household. This is a problem for which many parents are under huge debts giving their children the best day of their lives ever but that doesn't baffle the makers of such shows as they are "middle-class problems".

Okay its understandable though, the very first thing that came to my mind was that this show fits in so perfectly well with what the NRIs think, and that, how do i word this, is basically the target audience. Netflix to a large extent has still not reached the typical indian audience. If any indian audience exists it is going to be a) people from out of india, who used to hate their culture earlier( would not generalise this to all) and after more represenattion of indians in the global media, and the need to be seen as different, started flaunting their culture. B) people like jammy who may watch it as an ironical funny, guilty pleasure. Kind of way. If it was never meant for the indian audience, it makes sense that they show the rich class because tehya re the only ones who would be able tor elate to this, and this applies to most netflix shows based on indian culture (NOT ALL) be it indian match making, some ofthe highly westernised indian series of indian children in the us education system. I dont remember the name. They wont focus on actual good content now whichis more realistically based simce the audience for that (they think) dont exist yet. Its an easy profit for them.
