    HERE WE GO AGAIN! We get up, get out, and do something BIG. This time we're celebrating my 51st birthday at the Padre Island National Seashore (P.I.N.S.) in Corpus Christi! I lead a team of overlanding and fishing enthusiasts 59.5 miles south along the beach to the Port Mansfield Pass aka The East Cut. We camp out for 4 nights and endure a cool front and high winds on day one. I hope you enjoy the video and the entire series.

    I grew up in Corpus and spent a lot of time at Padre but I would never camp on the beach in November. Especially with a cold front moving in. June thru Sept is best. I'd rather it be hot and sunny than cold and rainy. Glad you guys had some fun tho.

      We were there for several days so we only had to endure the passing front for a day and a half. You were blessed to have grown up in that area. Thanks for watching!! 🙏🏽

    Awesome video! Watching Part 2 next. I just got back from P.I.N.S. this afternoon. I had the same overheating issue Tre did in the deep sand that started at about mile 18 and ended up stopping and camping just before the mile marker 20 sign. Found out the hard way that a Snugpak Ionosphere is NOT the tent to use in windy beach camping conditions! The "no see em" mesh may keep bugs out, but by morning, there was almost an inch of sugar sand inside the tent! LOL.........

    Trash does get bad, but its mostly from the currents in the gulf, they push anything that floats pretty much on to bigshell. There is a clean up every year on the last weekend in Feb.

    • @CoastalGX
      @CoastalGX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m sure the public would like to know the reasoning behind that. Maybe the ranger can focus up on the serious impact of the trash/plastic plaguing PINS. Just my shallow and short sighted opinion I guess.

    I plan to go during Thanksgiving. From what I heard is the dredging process by the US Army Corps started back in September and is expected to last til March 2021.
    Can you see South Padre Island Jettie from 59.5 mile marker?? Can you hike along on the sand dune to the PINS jettie?? Did you come close to using any extra fuel on your GX?

    • @CoastalGX
      @CoastalGX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can see the jetties from the barricade but you will get stopped by dredging employees if you cross and hike. One of them came up to one of our guys and was very friendly while reminding us it wasn’t allowed. My GX used less than half a tank. I topped off at Flour Bluff just to be safe and took an extra 5 gallons. If you go exploring Yarbrough Pass or just go screwing around up and down, you will need the extra fuel. I just drove up to 59.5 and camped at around mm58.5. I returned with plenty of gas. 👍🏽🎥🎬

      @@CoastalGX if you returned with more than half tank. I don't think extra 5 gallon fuel is necessary at all... You can see the PINS jettie but can you also see South Padre Island from the barricade as well?

    • @CoastalGX

      @@prandomable you can't see SPI. You can see the jetties on the P.I.N.S. side only. The extra fuel is in case you want to go exploring or if you bring a gasoline generator like I did. Also, this was our first time, so we didn't know how our fuel performance was going to be. We were playing it safe.

    Nice GX u got there! I’m from Chicago, we’re thinking to take young kids to the Padres island for couple days possible renting a camping trailer, I got a LX470 with KO2, and possible a subie outback tagging along with street tires, what do you think driving down to the south side beach 🏖 on those cars with kids in a week in March? Thx man😄

    • @CoastalGX
      @CoastalGX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love those LX’s!! Both of those vehicles are more than capable out there. Make sure you check the weather if you’re driving on the beach. A rogue cold front and high tides will make for a nasty surprise. There is limited to no cell phone service out there so make sure you’re self reliant. Take a tow rope and a little shovel just in case. Buy a battery charger and take a first aid kit. Keep a close eye on the babies cause the currents are treacherous and some people drive like idiots along the beach. I’m happy for you and I know the trip will be memorable for sure!

      Sure thing; keep it close to the entrance and take a shovel and tow strap in case you need to get pulled out. Don’t make sharp turns in the deep/soft sand. Monitor weather before you camp out. Remember, if you’re in a risky situation, lower down your tire pressure.

      Made it to mile 33 in a 2wd Tundra, but I would recommend 4wd past that. There are many areas where you have to go back and forth across 12" to 18" sand berms.
      I have been to mile 60 in a completely stock 4wd Xterra on street tires though.
