    I worked for a sports agency as a junior intermediary for two years. I was always fascinated with the inner workings of football and thought I would like to make a career out of it. Unfortunately the business is a filthy one and it’s primary interest is a self serving one - money. The vast majority of senior agents are only concerned with moving players around to secure huge fees for services rendered. The players career trajectory is redundant to the business model and there is little to no duty of care for the clients personal objectives. Sports agencies should be forced to operate like other entertainment agencies whereby the client pays 10/15% of the contract directly to the agent and not the football clubs. This will ensure agencies are always working for the best interest of the player.

    A code of conduct should also be implemented. No more of this nonesense where agents go to the press to try and leverage clubs to move a player. They should not be allowed to manipulate the transfer market. It is not fair to clubs who pay the player's wages, but most importantly, it is not fair to the fans!

But the biggest names tend to be petty, palpably low/low-middling IQ, uncultured people with limited negotiation experience and no real talent. Why do these players defer to agents like they are second fathers? It's bizarre.

    I was under the impression years ago that a player received 10% of his transfer fee and the agent was paid based in on the players earnings.

  • @pipmick2775
    @pipmick2775 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Football clubs have local, cultural heritage and the agents' fees could be the difference between a club staying afloat or going under at the end of the financial year, so the responsibility for the agents' fees must rest on the players themselves to pay their agents - it should not be the responsibility of their prospective club to pay them a cut of the fee on top of the transfer fee (just like I might choose to pay a mortgage advisor to do the work for a better mortgage deal, or pay a solicitor for legal advice). This financial burden is also more pressing assuming the 'lurgy' that shall not be named could get in the way from games being played to generate revenue in the future (which is no doubt part of a club's annual projected earnings to plan with). If clubs can mitigate those outgoings earlier in the season (especially the summer transfer window), then they will have more revenue to deal with emergencies later on in the season and pay the regular staff who mostly don't earn megabucks.

  • @matthewbaxter9005

    Football itself is to blame for the rise of the agent. There is no need for a rule change, all clubs could agree not to pay agents a single penny and that would be the end of it. The players should and would then have to pay the agent. You reap what you sow.

  • @mashu1766

    If Harry kane had a more experienced agent, then Harry kane would not have been taken advantage of by the club. Sometimes agents are necessary otherwise clubs will take advantage. Remember it was a club that values a players market value.

      @@notfirstyourlast players pay them through the deal that is done between them and the club. The club is under no legal obligation to pay anyone.

      @@registame2878 what? Lol . Legal obligation? Haha. There is no legal obligation which is exactly why the players tell the agents to let rip with fees as they know there is no law prohibiting the agent being paid extortionate amounts of money. Read up on transfers...

      @@notfirstyourlast thanks for the insight; I will read up even more on transfers. What exactly have you read up on transfers to solidify your opinions on them?
      - you do know all theses football clubs in the premier league could vote on issues like this outlawing them. Has your reading helped you figure out why they don’t?

      @@registame2878 your welcome. Whatever you have read is clearly a terrible source because its common knowledge that clubs pay the agent, surely your not arguing this? Lol. They dont "have" to pay is like saying they dont have to sign the player. If EPL clubs vote to cap fees it would give foreighn leagues a competitive advantage....thats why they dont. Regulations like this have to be brought down governing body, FIFA.

    People are some haters fr, people are so jealous of others making money. I agree football players should pay their agents, football agents are so much better now then they were before, these players are taken care of way better especially for long term investments for players. Players before would get ripped off, believe or not agents are better for football players 🤷🏿‍♂️

    there is no place in the game for money driven agents..they are a blight nothing but, sadly fifa is more corrupt and until they are put in their place nothing will change
