    Gornergrat Mountain in Zermatt, Switzerland, offers the finest Alpine view in Europe, surrounded by more high peaks than any other place in the Alps from the Gornergrat, including a perfect angle on the Matterhorn.

    The panorama includes 29 peaks that are 4000 meters or more in height, which is practically every tall mountain in Switzerland from one spot.
    The Gornergrat, at 10,290 feet, is remarkable for the fact that there's an unbroken range of magnificent snow peaks on every side. There's not a single break in the chain. It's an isolated rocky peak that enables one to survey at leisure the marvelous scenes all around.
    In the video we show tips on how to get the most out of your visit, including a delightful easy hiking trail on the lower flank for a nice walk back into Zermatt.
    The Gornergrat also boasts the highest shopping mall in Europe. And they've got the highest hotel in the Alps. The outdoor cafe terrace is an ideal spot to sit back, have a beverage and enjoy the view of Europe's tallest mountain, Mont Blanc, right in front of you.

    I'd consider visiting Switzerland in August or early September when it's warmer. This allows you to 'read' the landscape differenlty - the scenery & glaciers are even more dramatic - the glaciers are not obscured by snow - and you have an opportunity to do more walks - big or small. Either way you'll love Switzerland. Happy & safe travels.

      very good suggestions. Almost any time is good, but for hiking best avoid late
      October-early May because trails are often covered in snow, not good for walking.

    Hello, will I get to see and touch snow sat the top of gornergrat at the end of July?

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not. You'll see in parts of my video where the snow is gone and we are standing on rocks, photographed in late June. There are glaciers on adjacent mountains you will see, but Gornergrat station is not at a glacier.

    Hi dennis, what month did you visit zermatt and gornergratt here in this video? I plan to go there in May is it cold and are there enough snow? Thanks so much

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We went in May. If you want to hike and go at the beginning of May, not so good, there might be snow on the trails, so you can't see them, and cannot hike. But mid or late May is perfect -- not too cold, towns are just right, before the summer crowds.

    Switzerland’s Zermatt Region of the Southern Valais shares the distinction, with the Jungfrau Region, as home to the tallest and most vast glacial region in Switzerland. On a more serious note these glaciers are retreating with global warming. Sadly some of the lower glaciers are said to disappear within the next 20 years and the flow-on affect to local climate is impacting now. So if they float-your-boat, it’s time to get to Zermatt and the
    Southern Valais Region now?

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was filmed in May. Early June will be perfect, plenty of snow up top, but trails will be clear.
