The Progress was released in 1951. It was updated in 1958. To this day, it is still the 1958 variant, unchanged in 62 years. Love the retro art deco plastic adjuster knob. If patents had not run out, that Parker head looks an identical design to the Merkur...
Great video as always Kevy, nicely put together. I just shaved with the black handled Variant this morning and I would have to agree it has become one of my favorites.
Thanks for the advice Kevy. I shaved with the Parker variant for the first time today. Closest shave ever. A few weepers but nothing really to worry about. Personna.
What I noticed about the Parker Variant that was a huge improvement over the Merkur Progress is the rinsing slots in the baseplate. To me that really made it easier to rinse when mowing down a multi-day growth.
Brilliant intro, Kev!! I felt like I was ringside at a PPV event. The setup for this match was wight down the line. I wish you would have mentioned the cost as a comparison for both entrants. The scales would also tip in favor of the Variant. The Maca Root Cream is tremendously slick. I enjoyed this one my friend. Thank you for posting.
Thanks again Alex. I might bill you for watching! Lol! Yes the cost factor is another plus point for the Variant. Macca Root is an awesome cream.Cheers. Kevy 👍
I was amazed at his prizefight voice over. The post production was excellent on this shave. Kudos go to his audio engineer for the sound mix, overdubs and reverb. No wonder he ran into Alison Brie after the shave at Sundance: imgur.com/a/4MHhY
Great video, absolutely loved the intro...had me giggling/chuckling in my seat. The heads on both razors are very very similar so makes sense that differences between the shaves was hard to distinguish. After 3 rounds, Kevy goes to the judges ... and the winner due to better knurling, knob and balance ... all the way from India, possibly considered the underdog of the event, the right side shaver .... Paaarrrrkeeerrrr Vaaaarrriiiiaaannnntttt .... What a finish ...
I was going to do something like that with the announcer at the end of the video but I couldn't afford his fee, lol! The Parker won it on the very things you said in your comment. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Fabulous intro Kevy, I loved it and your "root it oot" joke was just the best 😌👏 I thought you were going to call it a draw as the shaves were so close, but I agree the Parker has a better gnarled and more aesthetically pleasing handle. I've just noticed a snag with watching you have a great shave, I want one now. Don't need one but as soon as I've finished my cup of tea I'm off to the bathroom 😂
I thought you would appreciate that joke Dave! I loved putting this video together. Great fun. Good to know I've convinced you to have yet another shave! Nice one mate.. All the best. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves Thanks Kevy, the Dovo came out again, I love it 😌 it's funny because I'm not used to my shavettes having audible feedback akin to your 2 adjustable, but this one has it spades. I was chatting to Scott (the clean shaver) about head shaving, still thinking of getting another DE for it, something a bit more efficient. I know you don't shave your head but any thoughts? I'm currently thinking of getting a Fatip Piccolo 🤔 Roll on next week and the handlebar moustache, I can't wait 😌🎉🎈🎊👏
flash boredom thanks again, I've been using a 34C & DE89 for almost 2 years on my head, just fancy something a bit more aggressive. I use shavettes mostly on my face but I'm happier using a DE on my head 😌
If you'll recall, asking his subscribers about whether they like a DE89 or 34c is one of Kevy's favorite ways to break the ice, as evidenced after the shave last night heree (click to enlarge): imgur.com/a/4MHhY
Ha, I loved your attempt at reggae! Also, around 0:18 I noticed the top of the razor is leaning a little to one side compared to the safety bar. I just realized in the past couple weeks my Variant does this, but it doesn't seem to have affected how it shaves, I'm still super happy with it.
Thanks for the reggae compliment! It does look like like it's leaning to one side but it must be the way the camera or razor is sitting. I've checked and it seems completely straight. Cheers. Kevy :)
I'm in the same ring as others here - thanks for a great intro - real 'smooth' operators all 3 of you :-)I am looking for a variable right now.The Merkur is totally off putting only because of the 'cheap' plastic adjuster.Cant understand for the life of me why they ruined what would have been the near perfect razor.Have felt the S6 solid stainless types but don't want to be messing with changing the base constantly - so Parker it is.Great video. Thanks.
Lol, "from years of cartridge abuse", too funny! Awesome video Kevy, laughed my butt off, and loved the intro as well. Never tried the Merkur Progress, but I do love my Parker Variant, Parker just has a way of making really beautiful razors. Keep those entertaining videos coming, looking forward to the beard shave off.
Yes, Parker is a great shaving machine. I was surprised by its efficiency. I tried not to expect something supernatural from him, but the very first shave showed that the machine will be the main one for many years. You can stop looking for something better and more perfect
For me the maca root creme performs lovely as well. The scent is sweet and a bit spa like. Not really a manly scent but still nice. I heard people mention that they suspect that the triethhanolamine in the creme gave them some redness to the skin.
Thanks for the great comment. I like the Macca root cream. It might be the triethhanolamine that caused the redness although I'm sure I didn't get any irritation when I've used it in the past. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Excellent video Kevy. I'm still thinking about the Variant. I did get a "new' razor this week...a 1969 mint condition Gillette Super Adjustable 84. First shave with it tomorrow!
Thanks Tim. Always best to think about buying new gear before pulling the trigger. You won't go wrong with your latest purchase. The vintage Gillette's are brilliant razors. Kevy.
Hi Kevy, Had the first shave with my Parker Variant just now. Only two days growth so longish stubble rather than longer. I used a new Derby blade and got a fairly good shave. Razor set on 2 1/2. After the super close shave I got Monday with my Feather razor this seemed like the blade was struggling to cut the bristles, almost like using a blunter blade. I have to be careful as you know. I think I may try a Treet blade in the Parker next. Even when I increased the razor to 3 1/2 later on it still didn't scythe through the bristle like the Feather razor. But...not a totally clean shave but practically no soreness so I class that as a win! I hope you and Mrs Kevy and Riley are well and staying safe. Cheers, Dave 😁😁.
@@kevyshaves4109 Thanks Kevy! You know, the more I use that Simpsons Trafalgar T3 brush the more I like it!! It has just the right amount of backbone for me with very soft bristle tips! I could have saved a fortune if they had brought it out sooner. I have a good few Super badger brushes and the T3 is equally as good if not better!! 😕😕😕😂😂.
@@CC-xh3eo Hi Paul, I have used Perma sharp and I really like them. My favourites at present are Gillette Nacet. Sharp but smooth. I find all Gillette blades pretty good. 7 o'clock greens and yellows are nice. Kevy is raving about Vikings sword blades at the moment so I bought some of those to try. I also ordered 100 A-Best blades by mistake (🥴🥴😖😖😖) so I hope I like them!! 🤣🤣. What seems to work for Kevy usually works for me but there's never any guarantee as we all have different skin types. Buy yourself a 5 pack of Nacets to try and if you don't like them it won't break the bank. Sample packs are a good idea and usually cost about £10. Take care mate and stay safe! Dave.
Thanks for sharing the video, very well done! The Merkur Progress is one of my favorite razors. I do like the knurling on the Parker; the Progress can be a bit slippery at times.
Each pass you started with the Variant and finished with the Progress. Did you feel the soap had dried out a bit for the Progress passes? If so, do you think it had any influence on the result? Do you think the satin finish of the Variant helped it slide better, creating a smoother feeling shave?
Good question Blain. I don't think the cream dried out any. The Macca root is good at staying hydrated during the shave. The satin finish on the Variant does give it more of a glide over the stubble. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Very impressive and professional intro Kevy. The alignment indicator on the Variant's baseplate puts me off slightly. What is that? A line? An arrow? LOL...
Looking at these two razors it's pretty obvious, that the variant is nothing but a brazen pirated copy of the Progress. They also went a bit further and adopted a more modern design, so the Progress looks a little old fashioned in comparison with the Variant. And as I have been very pleased with the Progress for two years now, I just ordered a Variant yesterday. I hope that it will be as good or even better than my Progress. Great video!
i never needed to go so low on my neck, which was kinda surprising seeing you do it, but shaving is so particular from one person to another and from one blade to another and one razor to another and so on LOL
Hardy harr harr Kevy😂. Nice comparison & a great shave 👍🏻💈. The Parker Variant is less expensive than the Merkur Progress where I live. I have a few Parkers and Merkurs and like em both for different reasons. Thanks for doing your clips, I’m very entertained, informed as well, especially this one . Cheers!
Hello, I'm Wojtek (My name has no equivalent in English. It comes from the Polish word woj. W is read like V and j like y. Voy. This word defined an armed man in the tribes' teams of the then tribes in the Middle Ages. From this name came the name read in English as Voytek,). I was intrigued by your video. Now that you've chosen a winner, can you compare it to the Rockwell 6c? I'm mainly talking about the quality of shaving, because Parker Variant there is no comparison with the knurling of the handle (especially the stainless one) in Rockwell. Best wishes
If it weren't so expensive, I'd suggest a follow up with a Barbaros/Rocnel 'B&R Stainless Steel Adjustable Razor'. Given the price, you'd think the B&R would provide a knock-out.
Enjoy these shaving videos, having just had the penny drop that cartridge shaving is expensive and make my neck and face hurt. I've bought a cheap Jagen David 3 piece which is a copy of a Gillette tech and is great. I then bought a Parker 99R butterfly and just can't get it right. My question is is the Parker a good razor or is it my technique with it? I have no issues with the jagen david
For me, the biggest selling point of the Variant over the Progress is the knurling on the handle. I like my Progress, but the smooth chrome finish makes it hazardous to use with wet or soapy fingers.
Hi Kevy From Richard , a Welshman in Borneo Which of these two razors has the best quality of finish ? Nice videos nice to find someone British doing great shaving videos amongst all my he Americans Best wishes Rich
Richard Lowry Hi Richard. They're both built wonderfully well but I think the weight and balance of the Variant feels better. Also there isn't any knurling on the handle of the Progress. I think the Variant handle is great to hold and shave with. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Kevy Shaves Thanks for your advice , I’ll go with the variant then ! It’s a bit difficult finding shaving stuff here. So will order one Best wishes Richard
Great video. I was going to order the progress but I'll be ordering the black handled variant as soon as I can get one where I am. Currently I can only get the silver handle.
Dgrouch E1 I'll still use the Progress as it's a great razor but I think the Variant has addressed all the issues that the Progress needs - knurling on the handle and the nice looking dial and also the drainage slots on the bottom plate for the lather. Hopefully the black handled one will be available for you soon. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Do you think the weepers could be due to the blade Kev as personally I don't like Astra's at all if it were me I would be using a Feather or Rapira LUX plus I would certainly use the Parker with lower settings.
Hi Kevy, thanks for all the great shave videos. I am new to wetshaving and I hope you could help me with a question I have and set me straight. I have placed a list of the blade gap sizes for each razor at the end of this comment/question. I want to know, are these razors truely comparable on the same dial setting considering the blade gap difference that each razor has? Thanks :) Parker Variant (approximations) 1 - .029" - 0.7366mm 2 - .036" - 0.9144mm 3 - .043" - 1.0922mm 4 - .050" - 1.27mm 5 - .057" - 1.4478mm Merkur Progress 1 - 0.38mm 2- 0.56mm 3 - 0.71mm 4 - 0.84mm 5 - 0.94mm
Blade gaps are a strange thing. Two razors can have the same blade gap but due to the way the head of the razor is designed and the angle which the blade sits in the razor, they can both feel completely different. The Homelike Start razor from Russia has one blade gap of 1.18mm which sounds quite aggressive yet using it, it feels very smooth. And some butterfly razors have small blade gaps and can feel quite aggressive. Also blade choice makes the shave feel different. Blade gaps in razors are like blades; very subjective to each individual. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
@@kevyshaves4109 thanks for the explanation, Kevy. I have a long way to go learning still. Thank you once again for the great shaves you put out for us guys to learn from. Take care 😀🍀👌🏻
Haven’t seen this one before. I like the facial hair on you. Add some tortoiseshell horn-rim glasses and you become Professor Kevy. Loved the in intro. Was that you doing the announcing?
Nice review Kevy, thank you for uploading. They both seem like very good razors, the Progress' adjustment knob just turns me off. That goatee is looking very good on you btw. 👍
Kevy Shaves, Do you have any issues with the black finish coming off? As noted by some there has been some issues with some of the black finished models.
I did have some issues with the black finish coming off. I contacted Super Safety Razors and they sent me another razor straight away. The know what they're doing when it comes to looking after customers. I've heard this from other people that had the same issues with the finish coming off the black handled version. They told me they've resolved the issue now which is great news. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Fantastic production in this video, especially the opening. I knew you wouldn't hire a boxing announcer and your impersonation is first rate. You should send this around for TV duty as one! In regard to Mennen Skin Bracer, take a look at what they used to produce in glass bottles before Colgate Palmolive bought it in the USA. On the bottom is what L'Oreal issues in France under the Mennen name. The balm also has alum: i.imgur.com/kLZm3C6.jpg
That announcer will go onto bigger better things I'm sure!! The French version looks like it's the same stuff, only in a glass bottle. Another one to add to the list! Thanks for the links and images once again. Kevy :)
I’m in no way complaining....but it’s hard to use my razors sometimes lol. They all get their Turn and I only shave every 2-5 days . I also NEVER use the same razor twice in a row. And it seems like I haven’t used my Parker Variant in AGES!!! So I’m glad to say I have it ON DECK for a shave tomarrow. It needs some love 💈😁✌🏻💈 Here’s how I keep track of what razor I used... once I use a razor I set it back in a certain way flat if I used it, and on its side if it hasn’t been used yet. And idk why ppl call it a “Shaving Rotation”. I have about 14 razors and I use every single one of them in my “Rotation”. I used to have over 25 lol but I downsized and kept the ones that I really loved. I guess people have such a big collection that they only pick a handful razors and go back-and-forth from them. And once they get tired with them, I assume they just pick another handful of razors and so-on... ~Mike Rose🌹 ~
Kevy it looks like the blade is curved and stuck on the posts on the Parker when you show the underside? My 6S does that on some blade types and it's a bit annoying!
You'll get a much more comfortable, and closer shave if you start at a lower setting and increase the aggression with each successive pass. So your AGT pass will be the most aggressive, the WTG the least. Try this you'll like it!
Loved the Head to head review and the intro was fantastic. Loved the joke as well, here's a couple for you..... I wondered why the Frisbee was getting bigger........ Then it hit me. This next one is after the jokes have been told A sheep, a drum and a snake fall off a cliff........ BA-DUMM-TSS
Ha ha! Good ones. Thanks for the kind comment. If you like jokes like the frisbee one, look up a British guy called Tim Vine, he has hundreds like that. Cheers. Kevy :)
Kevy Shaves Thank you very very much. Kind of you to answer. I am thinking about buying an adjustable one... and the Tatara has conquered my eyes. I have hard wiskers and thin and sensitive skin... tough!! I think Tatara más be a sensible choice. Great work. Keep up, please.
As you know I’ve had a Variant for quite some time now and since you own both I want you to answer this question: Do you think the adjuster knob on the Parker Variant will fit on the Merkur Progress?
Hey Mike. I'm not sure to be honest and I'm not going to try it! Knowing my luck I'll make a mess of both razors 😂 I like both razors for the way they look. As time has gone on I'm kinda liking the vintage/retro look of the adjuster knob on the Progress. Let me know if you do try it, if it works. You got me curious now 🤔 Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves I don’t have the Progress but I have a great feeling it would work being as though the Parker was made after it. Just kind of a fun idea for the people who didn’t like the knob on the Progress lol!
Another great shave video! Loved the intro! You do a pretty darn good American accent;) I noticed you didn't start getting nicks until you went down on the settings. I only have the Progress as far as adjustables go and, it took me while to figure it out but I always nick myself on settings 3 or below. switched to 5+ and never get a nick anymore. I know, it's weird but that's just my observation what do you think?
Thanks for the kind words. Hmm, I've never thought about it like that, where the less aggressive settings mean more nicks and weepers. Maybe I become a bit less careful if it's on a lower setting. Very interesting. Cheers. Kevy 👍
The Parker is $57 (plus shipping) at most US retailers, but you can currently get the Merkur Progress 500 (short handle) for $49.75 shipped to the US from Connaught Shaving in the UK. Yet, the knurling and adjustment dial on the Parker might be worth the extra ~$10
I used the progress a couple of times but after I got my Rockwel I don't use it anymore it's back in it's original packaging if someone wants to buy it hahaha
Hello Kevy my name is George and I am from Western Canada, British Columbia. I've enjoyed watching most of your videos and in one of your shaves I heard you mention that you sold your Muhle R41 because it nicked and cut you up to many times. I happen to own one and I am in my 50th shave with this razor that I bought back in December of 2016 and I really like this razor. Now before I purchase my razor I had in my stable a Ikon Shavecraft Open Comb razor which is very nice razor very mild but with a very heavy handle on it and swapped it out onto my Muhle R41 and ditched the handle that came with the R41 useless and since I've got my razor I had nothing but great shaves with it. Sorry you sold yours but if had tried a heavier handle on yours at the time perhaps you might have had a different outcome also I noticed that You seem to get some nicks when shaving just thought I might suggest using some Proraso Gel instead of a stypic pencil I found the Gel works faster at stopping the nicks or cuts. Anyway once again good videos and great humor.
Hi George. I'm glad you're enjoying my vids. I sold the R41 as it was just to aggressive for me. Maybe a heavier handle would've worked. I so.d it to a good friend, I suppose I could ask him if I could borrow it and try a heavier handle. I've used the Proraso gel and it works great. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Parker had som issues with the graphite coming off in the earlier versions, but they have since changed it and the ones you can buy now don't have any issues with the graphite on the handles wearing off. Cheers. Kevy 👍
I put everything together in this video Mike. When I was young, I was crazy into Hip-Hop. All the old skull stuff; RUN DMC, LL Cool J, Erik B & Rakim, World Class Wreckin' Crew, Bambaataa, Public Enemy. I still have all my old mix tapes in the attic!! Cheers. Kevy 👍
I think they're used for production purposes. When the blades are made in the factory, if theres any defect with the blade, the numbers are used to identify which edge of the blade is faulty. Others use them as a guide as to how many times a blade has been used. Cheers. Kevy :)
Thank you sir! It is funny but when you said that long 'halooo' to your viewers it reminded me of this:th-cam.com/video/tl3OCzeEMFY/w-d-xo.html. A scene from 'twin peaks the return'. Great tv series by the way:) The first episode was in may 2017 so there is no way you trying to imitate Kyle's character in that scene. Are you a time traveler, lol?
Great video, Kevy! Got a Futur, Progress, and a Variant and I like them in that order. But, that's just me. Wouldn't be any fun if we all liked the same things.
Hi Michael. I'm not sure where you are in the world but I got mine when I was in the States. You can get it there in most pharmacies and Walmart. I think you can also get it in France. It's not available here in the UK unfortunately. Cheers. Kevy 👍👍
A nicely done side by side video Kevy. I don't have either of them but if I had to pick one, I would go for the Packer adjustable. It just looks more classy to me with satin top and bottom with the black handle it just looks better. Have you through Kevy about doing a side by side Merkur Futur vs Muhle R41 video?
steven lamond I I have thought about that one but it's slightly in favour of the Futur being able to adjust to different levels of aggression. The Muhle R41 doesn't have that option so I don't think it would be a fair fight. And I'm not sure my face would recover from shaving with those two razors! Lol! Cheers. Kevy 😳
Technically Brilliant I didn't. That was the point of the shave, to see how they both performed on the same settings! They were almost identical in terms of aggression on setting 4. Great fun. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Hi Kevy how do these razors compare price wise? Are they simarly priced? Just thinking VFM would that impact your choice? Cheers mate. PS hows the empty pickled onion jar coming along for the soaker 😁😁
I think the Parker Variant will Ben the cheaper option. I have the long handled Progress and it's more expensive than the Parker. It might impact some people's choice for sure. The pickled onion jar is coming along nicely! Lol! Cheers. Kevy 😂
I thought the razors were going to fist fight after that great intro there, lol.... I get those red spots on the bottom my neck also ,it is a bit soft and fat in those areas and the razor has had a time just plowing through it ..It is way better than it was a few months back and I use Organic Coconut Oil on my face and neck after a shave..If you can find coconut oil pretty easy ,I would recommend it ..
Ha ha! I loved making that intro. I've never tried coconut oil after a shave. I'll need to try and find some and give it a go. Thanks for the tip. Kevy 👍
Organic Coconut Oil is all over the super markets here in the US now ,where as it use to be a specialty item at health product stores..It is very lite and will not clog pores..I use it for my rosacea and after two years ,the rosacea is hard to see with no flare ups and putting it on my face every day keeps the wrinkles away ..The oil is very anti fungal and anti inflammatory and I started adding a wee bit of olive oil in it too...To add, it has a high temperature resistance and for a fry in the pan with less smoke if you like the flavour.....Appreciate the reply's again Kevy
I loved the joke. Sometimes the "bad" ones are the best. Good thing "root" in this case wasn't in an Australian joke. I'd have to question who put what where in that trombone! LOL
Turn on the subtitles please...))) I'm from Russia , I do not know English sorry(, I want to hear about the Merkur Progress and Parker Variant. Sorry, the translation of computer
Дмитрий Пьянков I'm trying to turn the subtitles back on. TH-cam have changed the settings for this and I'm trying to work it out how to turn them back on. Hopefully I'll be able to,get them back on soon. Kevy 😀
Kevy Shaves Thank you, waiting for... Look with pleasure. Faster would Russia have started to sell this Parker...))) the Quality is really better than progress, as people say. Just wanted to take, but saw Parker and stopped yet ??? Even the price lower a little bit)))
Kevy Shaves We have in Russia probably it is the only normal channel about shaving - Homelike Vaping.....))) . Just tell me what You liked better and why? Briefly...))))))) these subtitles are automatic, difficult to parse what people say. Brad turns out mostly not clear, there is no logic...
Kevy Shaves Feel while you shave the same progress? It so happens that the machine seems to be the same, but they are different in feel. For example when I compare the progress with the Futur (angrier at the 1-position and the head is large ))))... Thank you for Your answers, will make note.....
Cheers Jason. I'm sure it will be a lot of shavers favourite adjustable razor once they try it. All the best. Kevy 👍
Just got the variant Kevy absolutely love it.You always lead me in the right direction.Cheers bud and a merry Christmas.
I find the Parker and its matte finish a very nice understated yet. Classy finish.
Great review Kevy. Now that the Progress has competition from the Variant we`ll all win with price competition and quality. Both are great razors.
You are correct there Brain. Cheers. Kevy :)
Nice review. Never tried the Merkur, but I love the Parker Variant.
Thanks for the advice Kevy. I shaved with the Parker variant for the first time today. Closest shave ever. A few weepers but nothing really to worry about. Personna.
Brilliant Gregory. I'm so glad to hear you went with the Variant and I'm happy you got a good shave from it. All the best. Kevy 😀👍
Another creative intro..damn it gets me everytime...😀
And your video clarity is superb. You are my Discovery Channel HD of wet DE shaving.👍👍👍
Ha ha! Thank you 😊
What I noticed about the Parker Variant that was a huge improvement over the Merkur Progress is the rinsing slots in the baseplate. To me that really made it easier to rinse when mowing down a multi-day growth.
Yes those are a brilliant addition to the Variant. Kevy :)
The intro was amazing! As a shaving and Boxing fan you just made my day, thanks.
Thanks Jose 😀
Kevy Shaves Thanks to you Kevy. I’m a new fan. Keep it up.
No wonder he ran into Alison Brie after the shave at Sundance:

I was going to do something like that with the announcer at the end of the video but I couldn't afford his fee, lol! The Parker won it on the very things you said in your comment. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves It was a pleasure to sit back and enjoy the main event (-; My wife is British... as she would say ...Jolly good show !
The Black variant is a beauty..my next purchase for sure!
Fabulous intro Kevy, I loved it and your "root it oot" joke was just the best 😌👏
I thought you were going to call it a draw as the shaves were so close, but I agree the Parker has a better gnarled and more aesthetically pleasing handle.
I'm currently thinking of getting a Fatip Piccolo 🤔
Roll on next week and the handlebar moustache, I can't wait 😌🎉🎈🎊👏
flash boredom thank you for your recommendation Flash :)
flash boredom thanks again, I've been using a 34C & DE89 for almost 2 years on my head, just fancy something a bit more aggressive.
Cheers. Kevy :)
Great video Kevy, liked the bit of theatre at the beginning. - All the best Mark
Thanks Mark. I appreciate that mate. All the best. Kevy 😀
I might look to purchase a Variant at Big Shave East in Ft. Lauderdale June 30, 2018.
Go for it Jill, they're great razors. Now your just teasing me whenever you keep mentioning the Big Shave East! Lol 😂 Cheers. Kevy 😀
Thanks.
Thanks very much. I had so much fun putting this video together. The Parker Variant is an excellent choice. Cheers. Kevy :)
your welcome Kevy - I think your video is a knock out lol :) love it.
Ha ha! Cheers John. I enjoy doing these videos like this one. Great fun! All the best. Kevy :)
Kevy.
Kevy Shaves Yes, the vintage Gillettes are fantastic Kevy and they have become my favorite razors.
Hi Kevy, would be great to see a comparison between Futur/ Futur clone and Parker Variant.
Hi Kevy,
Had the first shave with my Parker Variant just now.
Cheers,
Dave 😁😁.
Cheers Dave. The Treet blades always work well for me. Kevy 👍
Have you ever tried Sputnik or Perma sharp blades? The best blades I have used so far.
@@CC-xh3eo Hi Paul,
I have used Perma sharp and I really like them.
Thanks. Both are great razors but I think the Variant has all the good bits that the Progress doesn't. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves yes indeed Maca is good for men. You can eat it as wel, and get potentially good results from maca.
same bad spot for me.... neck, right side. i put extra pre-shave on that spot now. helps a lot.
Very impressive and professional intro Kevy. The alignment indicator on the Variant's baseplate puts me off slightly. What is that? A line? An arrow? LOL...
Thanks mate. I would say it was an arrow head! Kevy :)
Cristian Micu I find it strange that some people hate someplace that I love. I’m like ‘’how could anybody hate this blade’’ lol 💈😁✌️💈
Cheers!
Thanks. I had great fun putting this video together. I prefer the Parker Variant over the Progress. Still, both are great razors. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Good intro, seems variant lost. I have already received mine with the silver color. The best shave I get is from my Gillette black beauty.
Variant is a beautiful razor though
Gillette Black beauty is a brilliant razor.
Yes, it sure is! Kevy :)
I love my Variant and it does everything I really need, but I still want to buy a Black Beauty from my birth year (1976) one day. :)
Great razor. Good luck and hope you find one soon. Kevy :)
Best wishes
Awesome video!!!! Gotta pull the trigger on the variant.
Cheers. I should be on comission from Parker! Lol! Im sure you'll love it, it's a great razor. Kevy 😀
If it weren't so expensive, I'd suggest a follow up with a Barbaros/Rocnel 'B&R Stainless Steel Adjustable Razor'. Given the price, you'd think the B&R would provide a knock-out.
That would be a pay per view video shave off if the price is anything to go by! Lol! Cheers. Kevy 😀
Amazing love the intro!!
Edin Alisic Cheers! Kevy 👍
That was the best introduction I have ever watched! I have to give this a shout out!
Thank you for that.
--CC
Thanks CC. I had great fun putting this video together. Keep the vids coming. All the best. Kevy 😀👍
Cheers
I agree the variant is a clone that just improves on the progress flaws
For me, the biggest selling point of the Variant over the Progress is the knurling on the handle. I like my Progress, but the smooth chrome finish makes it hazardous to use with wet or soapy fingers.
Hi Kevy
From Richard , a Welshman in Borneo
Which of these two razors has the best quality of finish ?
Nice videos nice to find someone British doing great shaving videos amongst all my he Americans
Best wishes
Rich
Richard Lowry Hi Richard. They're both built wonderfully well but I think the weight and balance of the Variant feels better. Also there isn't any knurling on the handle of the Progress. I think the Variant handle is great to hold and shave with. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Kevy Shaves
Thanks for your advice , I’ll go with the variant then !
It’s a bit difficult finding shaving stuff here.
So will order one
Best wishes
Richard
Great video. I was going to order the progress but I'll be ordering the black handled variant as soon as I can get one where I am. Currently I can only get the silver handle.
Dgrouch E1 I'll still use the Progress as it's a great razor but I think the Variant has addressed all the issues that the Progress needs - knurling on the handle and the nice looking dial and also the drainage slots on the bottom plate for the lather. Hopefully the black handled one will be available for you soon. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Did the polished head of the Progress move across the face better?
Maybe a little bit.
Do you think the weepers could be due to the blade Kev as personally I don't like Astra's at all if it were me I would be using a Feather or Rapira LUX plus I would certainly use the Parker with lower settings.
The weepers could be the blade, yes. Kevy 👍😀
Thanks :)
Parker Variant (approximations)
1 - .029" - 0.7366mm
2 - .036" - 0.9144mm
3 - .043" - 1.0922mm
4 - .050" - 1.27mm
5 - .057" - 1.4478mm
Merkur Progress
1 - 0.38mm
2- 0.56mm
3 - 0.71mm
4 - 0.84mm
5 - 0.94mm
Ha ha! I wish I had the brains of a professor! 🤓 Yes, I was the announcer. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Kevy Shaves voiceovers May be your calling!
Nice review Kevy, thank you for uploading. They both seem like very good razors, the Progress' adjustment knob just turns me off. That goatee is looking very good on you btw. 👍
Thanks. The yellow knob on the Progress does put a lot of people off. I'm not convinced about the goatee. Lol!!
Kevy Shaves you can replace him with a metal one.
Kevy :)
wow, nice boxing announcer intro! well done!
Wow, Kevy got Bruce Buffer to do the intro!
My guy was way better than BB! 😂😀👍
Great intro and video. Side by side the razors really look similar. I like the joke.
Steve
Nice one Steve! Glad you liked the joke! Kevy :)
Not sure what you heard in person, but the camera microphone definitely picked up the audio from the Variant much better than that of the Progress.
I agree. The Variant seems to be louder than the Progress. Cheers. Kevy.
It needs some love
💈😁✌🏻💈
Here’s how I keep track of what razor I used... once I use a razor I set it back in a certain way flat if I used it, and on its side if it hasn’t been used yet.
WHAT a Fantastic and Funny Video Matey. I Loved it. I have the Progress but will be getting a Variant now...!!
Cheers Chris. I hope you'll like the Variant. Kevy :)
You'll get a much more comfortable, and closer shave if you start at a lower setting and increase the aggression with each successive pass. So your AGT pass will be the most aggressive, the WTG the least. Try this you'll like it!
I'll need to give that a try Neil. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Looking cool 😎 with the new look kevy !
Loved the Head to head review and the intro was fantastic. Loved the joke as well, here's a couple for you.....
I wondered why the Frisbee was getting bigger........ Then it hit me.
This next one is after the jokes have been told
A sheep, a drum and a snake fall off a cliff........ BA-DUMM-TSS
Ha ha! Good ones. Thanks for the kind comment. If you like jokes like the frisbee one, look up a British guy called Tim Vine, he has hundreds like that. Cheers. Kevy :)
really usefull well done Kevy amazing video thank you
Thanks very much 👍
Circle beard is great
A phantastisch start of the Video.😂👍👍👍🏴
sorry again... don't you preffer the Tatara adjustable?
Yes, but when I filmed this video, the Tatara wasn't available, it was only released this year. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves bear with me... would you be so kind as to do the " Tatara adjustable vs. Parker "? I cannot wait. ,!
As you know I’ve had a Variant for quite some time now and since you own both I want you to answer this question:
Do you think the adjuster knob on the Parker Variant will fit on the Merkur Progress?
Just kind of a fun idea for the people who didn’t like the knob on the Progress lol!
wow, you cut yourself up good Kevy! more pre-shave slickness needed!
Cheers. Kevy 👍
LockButcherShop
...but the Parker side left your face red raw...😬
Was Don King somehow involved in this match ??😂👊
😂
How about the price difference. .?...a glaring reason to buy the Parker...unless you feel it's only a temporary price reduction
The Parker is cheaper than the long handled Progress William, yes. I hope it's not and the price stays the same. Kevy :)
The $10 extra is well worth it in my opinion. Kevy :)
I used the progress a couple of times but after I got my Rockwel I don't use it anymore it's back in it's original packaging if someone wants to buy it hahaha
TuxKey There you go. Anyone looking to buy a Progress?
Cheers. Kevy 😀
How is the graphite finish on the handle holding up? I have heard that it tends to wear off easily.
Parker had som issues with the graphite coming off in the earlier versions, but they have since changed it and the ones you can buy now don't have any issues with the graphite on the handles wearing off. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Who did the intro for you? Lol
Gotta a lil old school hiphop beat I see you Kevy 🙌WuTangClan ain’t nothin to fuck wit 😁🤙
Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves Ok I see you 👀 kevy lol you the man😁🤘
Very clever and imaginative Intro! Great Everything. :D
Cheers. I appreciate your comment. Kevy 👍
what do those numbers indicate on the blade? I recently noticed them and I have been wondering. thanks!
Lol! That was spooky!! I could be the next Dr.Who! Cheers. Kevy :)
You look very good in your goatee Mr.Kevy.
Great video, Kevy! Got a Futur, Progress, and a Variant and I like them in that order. But, that's just me. Wouldn't be any fun if we all liked the same things.
You are correct there Charles, life would be very dull if we all like the same things. Cheers. Kevy :)
which of these two razors would you prefer to someone that does not own an adjustable razor
I prefer the Parker Variant.
thanks kevy. just to let you know I enjoy watching your videos
Kevy where can you purchase the skin bracer from?
Hi Michael. I'm not sure where you are in the world but I got mine when I was in the States. You can get it there in most pharmacies and Walmart. I think you can also get it in France. It's not available here in the UK unfortunately. Cheers. Kevy 👍👍
Kevy Shaves what a shame, I’m in the uk also, good old stoke on trent. Any other good after shaves you can recommend which don’t break the bank?
michael ball www.shavingstation.co.uk have some brilliant aftershaves. Good prices too. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Kevy Shaves brilliant thank you 👍
I do not own an adjustable. But the Parker Variant would be my choice.
Lol! Cheers. Kevy 😳
The Parker is a beautiful package but not quite like the one Kevy met after the shave: imgur.com/a/4MHhY
Shave- a-thon Now that's a Packer I would like to have. Lol.
Join the club! Were you a fan of the AMC network show "Mad Men"? She played Trudy Campbell. The woman is stunning.
Shave- a-thon I've never seen that show on that network as I'm from England, but I do know who she is and yes she is stunning.
how do u know a setting of 4 is the same on both razors ?
Technically Brilliant I didn't. That was the point of the shave, to see how they both performed on the same settings! They were almost identical in terms of aggression on setting 4. Great fun. Cheers. Kevy 👍
fair call kevy , good video as always , take care buddy .
No probs. Cheers for watching and the comments. All the best mate. Kevy 👍
great intro, now to continue watching ..........
BBS_Robski Thanks, I appreciate that 😁
WOW!! Beard and mustache
Hi Kevy how do these razors compare price wise? Are they simarly priced? Just thinking VFM
would that impact your choice?
Cheers mate.
PS hows the empty pickled onion jar coming along for the soaker 😁😁
I think the Parker Variant will Ben the cheaper option. I have the long handled Progress and it's more expensive than the Parker. It might impact some people's choice for sure. The pickled onion jar is coming along nicely! Lol! Cheers. Kevy 😂
What is the scent of the shave cream?
It's very difficult to describe. Like a light Citrus with a hint of floral in there too. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves thank you Kevy:)
Great job. I think I will get the Variant, too. Cheers!
mr.emptybackpack Nice one. It's a great razor. I'm sure you will like it. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Hilarious intro to the razors 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks! Kevy :)
I'll keep my eyes open for some. Cheers. Kevy :)
Nice review---funny too!
Parker Variant ++++++++
Yeah good job on this one
Jon Cash thanks Jon 👍
Good Video !
I loved the joke. Sometimes the "bad" ones are the best. Good thing "root" in this case wasn't in an Australian joke. I'd have to question who put what where in that trombone! LOL
Lol!
I like the handle on the Variant better than the Progress. The dial that adjusts the settings is nicer too on the Variant. Cheers. Kevy :)
Kevy Shaves Feel while you shave the same progress? It so happens that the machine seems to be the same, but they are different in feel. For example when I compare the progress with the Futur (angrier at the 1-position and the head is large ))))... Thank you for Your answers, will make note.....
Grazie mille per il tuo video 👍che io preferisco Merkur
Kevy why u never respond to me😂 hellllooo !!!!
The intro was worth a thumbs up
Awesome video!!! Super👍
Cheers mate. Kevy 👍
Funky intro :)
Thanks! :)
that yellow knob uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
