Yes take the ferry to Kuala Perlis, then by taxi or grab to Arau train station, take the Komuter train service that serve the north block to Padang Besar. Buy the train to Hatyai ticket there (they don't sell it online).... But the train to Hatyai only depart twice daily from Padang Besar, so better check the train schedule or spend a night in pandang besar.
@@ashtriana1 thanks so much , that is very kind , I am thinking of going to Satun , getting a bus to Krabi then another to Hua Hin . I can’t face the long chug up to Chiangmai so I’ll have a few days in Bangkok then head up to Chiangmai by bus for 14 nights. Thank you .
@@normhanson981 if you decided to skip hatyai, you don't need to take the train to hatyai or even the train to padang besar, if i am not mistaken there ferry service to Koh Lipe, an island off the coast of satun. Try to get a ferry out from there to Satun there..

Funny this video popped up. I wanted to take the train all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok a few weeks ago, but it was fully booked when I was in KL. In langkawi now heading home soon, maybe I'll try next time.

But I agree that the old train has more character.
Not sure if I missed it, but roughly how long did u took from kl to the border , and u need to wait another 1 -2 hours to buy the Thailand train ticket ? And then another 50mins from Thailand border to hatyai ? Man seems like it took a lot of hours

Tom did you get 30days or 45days on your passport for Thailand? I know its 45 days now by air but wasn't sure about the land borders.
For me, the KTM train is the best, but there are less passengers because the journey is quite far to the north of Malaysia
I think the key words you wanna say is too expensive and too slow, 100 ringgit and 6hours is not better than drive car by yourself if you have one
