87 and 88 seemed to be cursed with disasters. Kings Cross, Hungerford, Enniskillen, Zeebruge, Piper Alpha, Clapham Junction, Lockerbie. Then Hillsbrough soon after.

And earlier in the 80s we had the Bradford fire too

Omg, fresh King’s Cross fire footage! My father narrowly avoided this. And I’ve been obsessed with body 115, the last unknown victim.

Interestingly, two of the three local businesses featured in Central’s “Business Break” are still in existence! (don’t know why I felt the need to google that in the first place tbh, but there you go)

R.I.P to all the victims & injured in that tragic night and respect to all the emergency crews the haunted looks on the faces of the firefighters is something I've never forgotten🙏

Its quite a weird coincidence that ad aired just after that extended report

Even the adverts back in the 1980s were better than today. No Injury lawyers for you, mis sold PPI etc.

Tim Brooke-Taylor was disguised as the chicken in the advert for Hamlet Cigars, the outfit being a pantomime prop. Ros Landor was on the carphone in the advert for the Renault 25 car, she was Pru Standfast in the series C.A.T.S. Eyes, the spin-off that TVS produced from LWT's The Gentle Touch. Right, yeah. Allan Sherwin was the announcer, he joined Central Independent Television in 1987, even though there was a "Follows Shortly" slide shown it did lead into adverts and not that dreaded instrumental music accompanying.

Bbc news also ended without music at least on the night after.

      It's not Tim Brooke Taylor.
