hello from san marcos tx, I got my first motorcycle this christmas (2023 rebel 500) dont laugh at me but I think its a good starter bike, what would you recommend for my next bike??
This sentiment is why I want the SCL500 as my first bike because I already know that a slower more wandering pace is what I'm after and I like being able to handle GA clay dirt roads. I think the BMW suits the peppy but smooth riding style you seem to have when you're enjoying yourself on reviews. Great vid as always papa.
Part of the love of riding is being able to take in everything. Going fast is fun but your focus is so determined on the course or road that you totally miss out on the scenery.
@thesuperbiketour2251 situational awareness is one of the most required tasks of riding. I'm not talking about cruising down a busy highway but more referring to those nice, serene back road rides where you do get a glimpse of your surrounding.
No. The love of riding is being able to do that sometimes, and then when you want, 200kph wheelies and munching superbikes in the tight stuff. The only bike in the class that does both is currently the XR.

Yam you’ve come full circle. After 40+ years in the saddle and dozens of bikes I can tell you, the scenery and introspection of a long multi day bike trip is what brings me closest to God.
Been full dad mode since 2015. Camping setup and everything. It's really rewarding taking long solo trips. The ability to get out and see the world from the saddle, meet new people, and try new things is worth the shame.
Sounds like you are getting old & wise. I will be 65 this year, and I own 1 bike now and love it. There are lots of outstanding bikes being built today. Keep the Desert Sled, as a backup.
@calvinmathys2023 I bought a new 2020 Harley Davidson Road Glide Special in scorched orange. Of course, I have customized it with too many options to list here. There is not a scratch on it, and it is extremely comfortable to ride. Stage iii torque cam, screaming eagle air breather upgraded stage II Fosgate Harley 4 speaker stereo, saddlemens gel seat, TAB zombie slip on exhaust, Legend REVO A rear shocks. LED blinkers and additional rear bag break lights.

i had a 1000sx and loved it ... sold it for a much more fun Indian FTR Carbon ... sold that to be able to take the GF on club rides ... bought the Versys 1000 (got a great deal on one) few months later she buys a Can Am ... FML right :D but yeah the 1000 from kawa is great overall ...

The GSX-S1000GX looks like a less expensive alternative to the BMW. Or consider the FJR1300. Ever look at the spec sheet on the FJR? Why don't people consider it more often?
Yam, we all grow older; we mature; our lives change; and along with all that, our desires change too. Good luck in this new chapter of your motorcycling journey! As for bikes, BMW K1600 GTL should be on your list; it's like a sporty Goldwing. The Yamaha FJR1300 is also one that should be on your short list.
I know you...dislike... BMW. But don't sleep on a 1250GS with cast wheels and Road6 tires. I have a '23. I don't even consider this an ADV bike once you have road tires. It really is more of full size standard with great suspension, good tech, and comfortable for all day riding. And every bit as sporty as some other "sport tourers" when pushed.
Got a 2023 1290 SAS and view it much the same way as you describe the GS there. Been thinking of when the stock tires run out of slapping on some M9RRs just for the memes, as that is the only road sport tire available in a 19 inch size, which is rather funny. You're right though, the larger road oriented ADVs are really just modern day sport tourers, and I'm all here for it.
As an older rider, knocking on 50, I enjoy watching you change and grow as a rider. And lets be honest "going full dad mode" on your personal stable isn't all that limiting for you. Im sure you'll continue to get plenty of seat time in all the other styles of riding to keep you happy.
Excellent! You are an advanced individual, ahead of the curve. I'm a lifelong sport bike enthusiast. I went through the same epiphany/transformation from track days and racing (SV650!) to sport touring... but at age 51. Big, smooth, torquey engine, windshield, and bags. There's a reason there are so many bikes like that. See you out there!
I’ve been through 10 bikes since I was 18. I’m 24 now and I took the same “dad” mentality, I have a Norden 901 now that I use to explore/tour on. Plenty of power on that bike, but it lets me see the world more and enjoy the ride. Definitely recommend an ADV/Sport Tourer!

So at 31 noob has decided to try out sport touring, I’ve been riding that category for 44 years, and now at 64, will continue riding that category. Bike blitzing on racetracks is fun for a while, but has a shelf life. It’s not about how fast the bike is, but how it makes you feel, and how much you enjoy the open road.
I would love to see you go full dad mode and get a slightly used Goldwing. Just so you can give us a review on it even though I know you’ve done it before.
My last 3 bikes have been adventure bikes, a Triumph Tiger and 2 Ducati Multistrada’s, my favorites. I don’t ride off-road, they are for me a sport cruiser.
I totally get it. Tracer 9 GT seems like a solid choice that you really couldn't regret. I've bought and sold so many cars, motorcycles, and guitars in my day. There are always a handful that I regret selling. Good move keeping that Daytona.
Couldn't regret? It's THE bike that'll make you regret when it degrades in the blink of an eye. I've had the pleasure of riding 5 different tracer 9s, and 3 of them that were between 10-15k miles were shot. Brakes were horrible spongy, diddn't work (yes there were new pads and plenty of life in the discs, as well as fresh fluid), the suspension becomes extremely rough and clattery, the bike is rusting to pieces, and things are squeaking or rattling. It's a horribly bad bike in terms of build quality. Then even when it's in good condition, such as the 2 models that were under 5k miles that I rode, it's still not a great bike. The suspension is still bouncy, undersprung, under damped, even the electronic version, maybe ok for a 60kg person, but definitely not for anyone in the 80-90 range. It's unstable, twitchy, and has all around horrible ergos for a sport tourer. A bike like the S1000XR is a better choice in everyway for an incredibly fast sport touring bike that handles well and is comfy, or the F900XR/ KTM 890 SMT for a light weight sport tourer with incredibly handling. Last but not least the KTM 1290 Superduke GT for the fastest, most capable sport touring bike. Yes the XR and the GT are more expensive but I'd take a used Gen 1 S1000XR over a tracer 9 GT any day of the week, and that is a hell of a lot cheaper.

@MotorcyclesandTravel absolutely agree. I had a Royal Enfield Continental FT before my Triumph, and it was a perfectly capable and fun bike at a reasonable price. It also sounded fantastic with aftermarket pipes.

I think my next bike is going to be the GSX-S1000GT+ Still got a 150 hp, a nice flat torque curve. I haven't ridden one yet, so I'm not 100% sure obviously, but it checks all the boxes.
I took a demo ride on both the S1000 and S1000GT. For how the wind noise and engine heat worked on the GT, I didn't like it. But I'm 6'2" and 34" inseam so your head might sit in clean or still air. I preferred the S1000 for being out on the open road.
I'm with you...been thinking the same thing recently. Not sure I want to go full Goldwing yet, but i need to ride one to be sure. S1000XR, GSXS1000 GT and GX are on my list to demo the first chance i get. I'll never get rid of my Speed Triple, but more relaxed touring is something I am definitely more interested in than ever before as i hit my mid 40s.
I took a BMW r1200rt from Seattle and rode for three weeks all over Alaska. I understand the appeal of the open back roads. I tried to make to the ocean but only made to Coldfoot up the Dalton. I’m 71 now and still enjoy the backroads mostly in Arizona in the winter and Montana in Summer. Motorcycle camping is the best. Looking forward he hearing about your trips. Be blessed

I am 60 years old and I use my 2023 Ducati Diavel V4 for my old man bike. I have put about 14,000 miles so far. I have the Termignoni Titanium Dragster exhaust and Upmapped it for a little extra juice. It's a great daily commuter, grocery hauler, and butt burner old man bike. I just strap some water proof bags into the rear seat and head out into the highway. Slow Rider out.
Go adventure type Yammie!! KTM Super Adventure S with street tyres, and then when u wanna go off road just swap the rubbers. lots of love and support from Costa Rica!
Just bought a new 2023 SAS on end of year clearance couple months ago to do everything Yammie described in this video and am loving it. Sad I only got 3 rides with it before having to put it away for the winter. Looking forward to pulling it out in 4 months and really putting it through its paces. Really enjoyed it in those 3 initial rides though. A very confidence inspiring bike. It has already given me much more confidence than my 701 before it ever did.

@@arnoldsalazar9392 Yeah I like it. Some people call it a compromise, which it kind of is, but all depends what you want to do with a bike. I intend to mostly stay on the road, so it's fine for me, but it's nice that it is a size that can take a more offroad type tire if I do want to do that.
The ONLY thing most of these sorts of bikes have that defines them as "off pavement" rides, is 19" front wheel... and a bit more suspension travel. That's about it. That's a whole lot of compromise away from pavement competence for something you might do 2% of the time.
If you haven't been yet, go to the Alps (Europe). It is a paradise for this kind of riding. All the famous passes in Switzerland , Italy and France.. Trust me, you would absolutely love it. Never ending great twisty roads, great food etc.
Love my XSR900 - it's a blast - but at 55 I want to add a sports tourer to my stable in the next year or so, and maybe start 'dad' touring. I came close to buying a Ninja 1000SX last year, but that falling through has give me breathing space to look at other options. I'm currently watching as many vids I can find on the R1250RS and RT, and, as you say, the S1000XR looks great. Never feel as if I need to pretend I'll ever go off-road, and so I'm definitely more inclined to get a sports tourer rather than a GS etc. Maybe sports bikes will make a come-back for this reason?
I own a s1000xr and just love it at 46. This is where i am in my head. Change the seat with a wanderlich and you will be ready for hours of fast touring.
I’ve ridden all of the BMW’s you’ve listed and while i have no intention of going off road… just looking for a sports tourer, the GS (not GSA) is where I’m leaning. All great options tho.
Go for it. Multi-day trips set your mind free. BMW R1250RS is a lot less busy/buzzy at surface street rates of travel compared to the S1000XR. There’s lots of America to see, Texas is wonderful but you’ll “run out of roads” pretty quick, further horizons will call, go for them, tons of interesting places and roads to travel.
It's a natural progression and really I have to say the Sport Touring is the best kind of riding by far. It's the best of both worlds. For me I'd be looking at an FJR1300 which leans a bit more to the touring, but on longer rides the extra weight and storage can be pretty nice. You were in Canada last year but I think you should go back and explore the twisty, scenic highway between Vancouver and Whistler, and some of the other beautiful places to see in BC.
Go. Go full dad mode. Let go of all resistance and buy the GS. Because of all upright touring motorcycles where you can put bags on, it is THE absolute best. (It really is.) everyone knows and you know it too. So forget your ego and enjoy the scenery.
I’ve been considering doing the sport tourer as well. What about the Yamaha FJR1300? That’s one I’ve been highly considering. Lacks the tech of the tracer but has so much more power and capability with passenger/gear.
Just turned 30, bought myself a 19 model Yamaha tracer 900GT.. hands down best bike Iv ever owned.. low windscreen and and no Paniers for every day stuff.. when you go on a trip, swap the big screen and Paniers back on and go old man style 👍 comfy, fun, powerful, and has all the bells and whistles 🤙 BTW yammie, wouldn't really be yammie noob if you weren't a sport tourer noob on a yammy 😉

Get the S1000XR...I am the "Dad" you are talking about and I have this bike and enjoy all the giggles the XR provides. I rode it through Yellowstone, Teton and Glacier National Park last Summer and loved the power experience!!
Agree. I've owned a S1000XR since they came out (2015) and believe it to be the best all rounder I know of. I've tried to replace it for the last few years to no avail. It's no secret that it's an upright sports bike that goes 150mph. But it is also designed for luggage and long distance as well. I have 75K on mine with a handfull of 5K - 7K month long trips. I looked at the Tracer 9 GT over the past couple of seasons. It's cheaper, it's newer, but I haven't been able to convince myself its better.
I'm an old f@rt and never went crazy on motorcycles, but the thing I love most is doing long trips @ Andes (Argentina/ Chile). I live in Brazil and just to get there and start to this magnificent scenery I have to ride at least 1500/1800 miles. You live in one of the most beautiful countries in this world. There is nothing wrong with your 24 plans. Just enjoy it. I would go crazy if I live there.

I've been passing squids and poseurs on dad bikes since 2000. Makes for great conversations at the next stop sign or gas station. The BMW is sweet. My last DAD bike was a 2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000lt with full Traction Dynamics AK-20 suspension . Enjoy the ride. Make it what you want it to be.
I'm 61, got into riding only 20 years ago with a KTM 640 Supermoto. I don't have any real skill or knowledge in the sport, but my second bike (KTM 950 SM) was the most fun of them all. Light, fast, fun, nimble and simple. Toured easy with a Renazco seat and a couple of bags on the back. While competition, adventure and pursuit of technical skill is admirable, it's just a bike and it's the things and people you see on a ride that makes it special.
For "sport touring", I humbly suggest the Goldwing F6B. 125 HP and 125 ft pounds of torque. Plenty of power. I ride mine all day long. 200 to 300 miles a day. Very comfortable.
My uncle rode a BMW Boxer for years and years. A few decades ago he lost his leg below the knee in an accident and the BMW was easier for him to ride with his prosthetic. He still restores and rides a lot of bikes but the BMW is still his favorite.
I lost my father last year to cancer at 57 and recently sold my bike to buy his. Yes i was a Harley style cruiser boy, big bars and loud pipes 😅 But now I ride my fathers bike, 2017 Honda ST1300. I’m half way through a 5,000km round trip north island to South Island NZ. I’m 34 and now I’m froathing at long trips, tent and go see some amazing spots and enjoy the journey! I think I’m hooked on on the sports tourer style 🤌🏻
Go the Ryan Fortnine route. Get a V-Strom 1000. V-Stroms are great on the road and they lean over nice. You can feel confident on a dirt road as well which is where a bunch of great scenery is located. Welcome to dad riding!
happens as you get older. I was a squid until I hit 30 and now I sold the sport bike and got a KLR650 and have not regretted it. I love the ability to hop a curb and do whatever I want.
Welcome to the slow side of life. I am almost 58, and let me tell you, the seat of my KTM 1290 Super Adventure R is my happy place. I had a Honda Fireblade 15 years ago, and it was fun, but only for a short while until that itch was scratched.
Ducati multistrada v4 family. Pick whichever one you like. I have a v4s and it laughable how far ahead of my other bikes it is. 9600 mile service intervals. All day comfort. Extremely sporty in the twistiest. It’s magic.
Hey noob, I have a 2023 BMW S 1000 XR the M trim. I have a full exhaust on it and velocity stacks, air filter and stage two Bren Tune. Let me tell you the bike really comes alive! it’s very comfortable you can tour on it. Put big miles and still when you get to the twisties it is so much fun because it’s making 185. Seriously look into that man highly recommend.
OK Noob, if you want the upright sitting, do everything perfect bike, go out and find a 2014 Honda CB1100. They are only black, incredibly smooth and quiet with a balance shaft, 88 horsepower, air and oil cooled, 6 speed transmission, fuel injected, 53 MPG, mag wheels with tubeless tires, wide flat low seat and analog gauges. If you want a surprising small bike, go find a 2012 Honda CBR250r which is quite light at 357lbs, fuel injected, water-cooled, 65 MPG, starts instantly and can still go 88MPH
Yam, welcome to the Dad Motorcycle Club. Try a Honda NC750X DCT, you won't be disappointed. It's fast enough to get a speeding ticket (I know I got one), and comfortable enough to complete an Iron Butt 1,000 miles in 24 hours challenge.
My riding just changed a lot. I've been riding my 2001 Kawasaki ZRX1200R for 17 years but at 64 I needed something more comfortable and don't really need all the power anymore. I just bought a 2015 Suzuki VStrom 650 and I think this will be my last motorcycle. I love it ! Now I've had every type of motorcycle made and I've loved them all. 😁
Good idea. The final frontier is......riding alone. The terrain and time taken will define the nature of the frontier. Also one of the best ways to enhance your spiritual life. Take it from me...74 years and still serene as a single rider.😅
Versys 1000. Has all the useful things without complicating life too much. I’ve done several multi day trips averaging well over 300 miles per day on fun twisty mountain roads.
i just got myself a 2019 tracer 900 at the age of 22 in the UK, i have the need for speed and want to be a hooligan, but for me the "tallrounders" are just the perfect bike for everything i do on the street. Tbf mine is essentially a wanna be supermoto, having done alot of adv styling mods in order to make it look, sound and perform more aggressive but its what i love about it
53 years old, I have a 2011 WR250R, 2015 Harley Sportster 48 and a 2014 Daytona 675R. Love riding them all but I'm not taking any of them on more than a 3 hour trip.
I had a triumph 1200 for a few years and loved it. I sold it and got a bmw r1200gsa and absolutely love it. I’ve owned a few s1000rr’s and a zh2 plus a lot of other bikes. The GS is an all around great bike and fast enough for what you’re looking to do. Although I liked my Yamaha xsr900 I’d have to cave for the s1000xr. The new M package looks sick and if I remember correctly the s1000rr won your expert bike for 2024. So it would be cool to see a comparison between the two😏
That Yammie 900 is calling.. Hard to beat that jewel.. a low 400Lb. bike with that much power and perfect quick shifter does it all.. I chose XSR, but adding a medium size fairing.. Biatch gets her own bike!
I'm currently on a BMW F900XR. It is my do it all machine and that works well for me with limited garage space. One day my goal is to add one more bike to the stable that'll most likely be a sport or naked bike for the weekends. For me that would be the ideal garage as it gives me a comfortable machine for do it all and then something fun for when you want to hoon around.
Youre getting older and your tastes are changing. It happens to all of us. When i hit my 30s i had the same thing happen and i was like wtf is happening to me!? Its all good man. You're just not a noob anymore yam.

Congratz my friend! It is extremely satisfying to see that a former hothead, who also used to rant about brands like BMW, has finally reached the next level of maturity. It doesn't always have to be full throttle, relaxed cruising (and sitting upright) is usually the next logical (and sensible) step. The 2024 BMW S1000XR would be my number 2, for number 1 I would recommend a Multistrada. With the Pikes Peak (or even the RS) you can do everything: from relaxed cruising with radar and bags to trackdays. Greetings from Germany!
I've had am S1000XR for 3 years. It's an awesome bike. Fast, comfortable and you can mount soft and hard luggage on it. Excellent bike. I've done 400 mile days and wknd trips on it. I think you will love it. Enjoy.
I am 70 years old and been riding sport bikes and Goldwings 80% of my life, until an accident that caused left arm issue and pulling a clutch. Most sport bikes I had were cable clutch. So I got a Suzuki Burgman 650 scooter for my 90 mile round trip commute. Full auto and no clutch. Rode 17 years now on these scooters. Gas and go @ 58 MPG. But now most Sport/tours are hydraulic clutches and I am not commuting any more so I am researching shifter bikes. Do not need 125+ Horsepower anymore. Between 70 and 90 HP will do 150% of what I need, from mountain passes and blasts to 115+ MPH every so often. Heck, the Burgman 650 will do 110-115 MPH while you're sitting in a Lazy-Boy recliner.
Dude … it’s your Bunta OG biker dad here with some words of wisdom, well at least some words of experience. Since the 70’s I’ve done dirt bikes, OG enduro bikes (aka XL500), naked bikes before they were called that, and somewhere a little younger than you I inherited a Yamaha Venture 1100 - aka the touring version of the VMax. That became my everything…for years!!! Touring is a thing despite the BMW abuse, Gold Wing grey beards and of course the Harley boys. The Yamaha for decades was a generation ahead in the original Venture… and I put 1000’s of miles on that old beast before I sold it off…which I regret every day. But this is 2024 and for the last two years at nearly 55 I turned back to the naked world and fulfilled a lifelong dream of riding a daily Ducati. I started with the Monster 937 … great bike but 937 is not enough bike for riding the Rockies. And now call the new Street Fighter V2 my daily and that bike crushes everything other than the V4 litre bikes. BUT … ready for the rabbit hole … I still want a touring bike for long rides and extended trips. You know I have KTM cult friends on their 890 Adventures but that’s not my goal. I want a street / adventure ready touring beast and I want to have no compromises… enter the Ducati Multistrata V4 to my radar. Pikes Peak looks sick and the new race spec is not necessary for me (is any bike necessary?) But would love to see you on the Multi V4 on the channel … again because after riding all the madness that new bikes are today, I think we both know the 9 will never be enough bike. Also… that Desert Sled is on my list too!!!
I have a 22 Tracer 9 GT. Absolutely love it! Long trips? Yep. Still quick and nimble? Hell yes. Bunch of quality of life features and storage? You betcha. It does everything you want it to do!
And I just got home from putting a deposit on one, the Rally Explorer. I've been researching the subject now for about 2 months. To have that ultimate adventure/explorer bike. To go and ride and enjoy the adventure it takes you on. The Tiger 1200 is reviewed as one of the most comfortable and well equipped bikes on the road. 150hp, heated grips and seat, adjustable windshield, adaptive suspension. All the rider modes. Countless accessory options. 400 mile fuel range is insane. I can not wait. First bike that isn't a sport bike.
I have cfmoto ADVentura 650 and I get most of my miles on long weekend trips. I had a 1,000 mile trip a few weeks ago and a around a 500 mile trip this weekend 🤘🏼Enjoy the new experience!
I got my first bike in Feb 2022. I watched so many of your videos learning about motorcycles and a few other youtubers. I've been riding a flashed 2022 Z900 and it's a great bike. I recently bought a daytona 675 and man I didn't think with my back problems it would be a good purchase but I love that bike so much. Whatever you wanna do yam we support.
I have the Tracer 9GT (2022). Factory seat sucked, upgraded to a heated Corbin. The CP3 motor is smooth, the technology is nice (cruise control is neat). I am taller at 6'2 and it is comfortable. range is good and I love my red color.

This sentiment is why I want the SCL500 as my first bike because I already know that a slower more wandering pace is what I'm after and I like being able to handle GA clay dirt roads. I think the BMW suits the peppy but smooth riding style you seem to have when you're enjoying yourself on reviews. Great vid as always papa.

No. The love of riding is being able to do that sometimes, and then when you want, 200kph wheelies and munching superbikes in the tight stuff. The only bike in the class that does both is currently the XR.

Yam you’ve come full circle. After 40+ years in the saddle and dozens of bikes I can tell you, the scenery and introspection of a long multi day bike trip is what brings me closest to God.
Been full dad mode since 2015. Camping setup and everything. It's really rewarding taking long solo trips. The ability to get out and see the world from the saddle, meet new people, and try new things is worth the shame.

There is not a scratch on it, and it is extremely comfortable to ride. Stage iii torque cam, screaming eagle air breather upgraded stage II Fosgate Harley 4 speaker stereo, saddlemens gel seat, TAB zombie slip on exhaust, Legend REVO A rear shocks. LED blinkers and additional rear bag break lights.

I know you...dislike... BMW. But don't sleep on a 1250GS with cast wheels and Road6 tires. I have a '23. I don't even consider this an ADV bike once you have road tires. It really is more of full size standard with great suspension, good tech, and comfortable for all day riding. And every bit as sporty as some other "sport tourers" when pushed.

Got a 2023 1290 SAS and view it much the same way as you describe the GS there. Been thinking of when the stock tires run out of slapping on some M9RRs just for the memes, as that is the only road sport tire available in a 19 inch size, which is rather funny. You're right though, the larger road oriented ADVs are really just modern day sport tourers, and I'm all here for it.

As an older rider, knocking on 50, I enjoy watching you change and grow as a rider. And lets be honest "going full dad mode" on your personal stable isn't all that limiting for you. Im sure you'll continue to get plenty of seat time in all the other styles of riding to keep you happy.

I’ve been through 10 bikes since I was 18. I’m 24 now and I took the same “dad” mentality, I have a Norden 901 now that I use to explore/tour on. Plenty of power on that bike, but it lets me see the world more and enjoy the ride. Definitely recommend an ADV/Sport Tourer!

So at 31 noob has decided to try out sport touring, I’ve been riding that category for 44 years, and now at 64, will continue riding that category. Bike blitzing on racetracks is fun for a while, but has a shelf life. It’s not about how fast the bike is, but how it makes you feel, and how much you enjoy the open road.
I would love to see you go full dad mode and get a slightly used Goldwing. Just so you can give us a review on it even though I know you’ve done it before.
My last 3 bikes have been adventure bikes, a Triumph Tiger and 2 Ducati Multistrada’s, my favorites. I don’t ride off-road, they are for me a sport cruiser.
I totally get it. Tracer 9 GT seems like a solid choice that you really couldn't regret. I've bought and sold so many cars, motorcycles, and guitars in my day. There are always a handful that I regret selling. Good move keeping that Daytona.
Couldn't regret? It's THE bike that'll make you regret when it degrades in the blink of an eye. I've had the pleasure of riding 5 different tracer 9s, and 3 of them that were between 10-15k miles were shot. Brakes were horrible spongy, diddn't work (yes there were new pads and plenty of life in the discs, as well as fresh fluid), the suspension becomes extremely rough and clattery, the bike is rusting to pieces, and things are squeaking or rattling. It's a horribly bad bike in terms of build quality. Then even when it's in good condition, such as the 2 models that were under 5k miles that I rode, it's still not a great bike. The suspension is still bouncy, undersprung, under damped, even the electronic version, maybe ok for a 60kg person, but definitely not for anyone in the 80-90 range. It's unstable, twitchy, and has all around horrible ergos for a sport tourer.
A bike like the S1000XR is a better choice in everyway for an incredibly fast sport touring bike that handles well and is comfy, or the F900XR/ KTM 890 SMT for a light weight sport tourer with incredibly handling.
Last but not least the KTM 1290 Superduke GT for the fastest, most capable sport touring bike.
Yes the XR and the GT are more expensive but I'd take a used Gen 1 S1000XR over a tracer 9 GT any day of the week, and that is a hell of a lot cheaper.

@MotorcyclesandTravel absolutely agree. I had a Royal Enfield Continental FT before my Triumph, and it was a perfectly capable and fun bike at a reasonable price. It also sounded fantastic with aftermarket pipes.

I think my next bike is going to be the GSX-S1000GT+ Still got a 150 hp, a nice flat torque curve. I haven't ridden one yet, so I'm not 100% sure obviously, but it checks all the boxes.
Not good wind protection and a non-electronic suspension.
I bought one this year and it’s a great machine imo. Fast enough to satisfy but also useful with panniers and some storage.

I took a demo ride on both the S1000 and S1000GT. For how the wind noise and engine heat worked on the GT, I didn't like it. But I'm 6'2" and 34" inseam so your head might sit in clean or still air. I preferred the S1000 for being out on the open road.
Like you said, you've proven everything you felt a need to prove to yourself. Now get comfortable and focus on the beauty of this world we're in.
I'm with you...been thinking the same thing recently. Not sure I want to go full Goldwing yet, but i need to ride one to be sure. S1000XR, GSXS1000 GT and GX are on my list to demo the first chance i get. I'll never get rid of my Speed Triple, but more relaxed touring is something I am definitely more interested in than ever before as i hit my mid 40s.
I took a BMW r1200rt from Seattle and rode for three weeks all over Alaska. I understand the appeal of the open back roads. I tried to make to the ocean but only made to Coldfoot up the Dalton. I’m 71 now and still enjoy the backroads mostly in Arizona in the winter and Montana in Summer. Motorcycle camping is the best. Looking forward he hearing about your trips. Be blessed

I am 60 years old and I use my 2023 Ducati Diavel V4 for my old man bike. I have put about 14,000 miles so far. I have the Termignoni Titanium Dragster exhaust and Upmapped it for a little extra juice. It's a great daily commuter, grocery hauler, and butt burner old man bike. I just strap some water proof bags into the rear seat and head out into the highway. Slow Rider out.
Go adventure type Yammie!! KTM Super Adventure S with street tyres, and then when u wanna go off road just swap the rubbers. lots of love and support from Costa Rica!
Just bought a new 2023 SAS on end of year clearance couple months ago to do everything Yammie described in this video and am loving it. Sad I only got 3 rides with it before having to put it away for the winter. Looking forward to pulling it out in 4 months and really putting it through its paces. Really enjoyed it in those 3 initial rides though. A very confidence inspiring bike. It has already given me much more confidence than my 701 before it ever did.

@@arnoldsalazar9392 Yeah I like it. Some people call it a compromise, which it kind of is, but all depends what you want to do with a bike. I intend to mostly stay on the road, so it's fine for me, but it's nice that it is a size that can take a more offroad type tire if I do want to do that.
The ONLY thing most of these sorts of bikes have that defines them as "off pavement" rides, is 19" front wheel... and a bit more suspension travel. That's about it. That's a whole lot of compromise away from pavement competence for something you might do 2% of the time.
If you haven't been yet, go to the Alps (Europe). It is a paradise for this kind of riding. All the famous passes in Switzerland , Italy and France.. Trust me, you would absolutely love it. Never ending great twisty roads, great food etc.
Love my XSR900 - it's a blast - but at 55 I want to add a sports tourer to my stable in the next year or so, and maybe start 'dad'
touring. I came close to buying a Ninja 1000SX last year, but that falling through has give me breathing space to look at other options. I'm currently watching as many vids I can find on the R1250RS and RT, and, as you say, the S1000XR looks great. Never feel as if I need to pretend I'll ever go off-road, and so I'm definitely more inclined to get a sports tourer rather than a GS etc. Maybe sports bikes will make a come-back for this reason?
I own a s1000xr and just love it at 46. This is where i am in my head. Change the seat with a wanderlich and you will be ready for hours of fast touring.
I’ve ridden all of the BMW’s you’ve listed and while i have no intention of going off road… just looking for a sports tourer, the GS (not GSA) is where I’m leaning. All great options tho.
If you're considering an RT..... consider the FJR1300. The specifications on that bike are entirely modern.
Go for it. Multi-day trips set your mind free. BMW R1250RS is a lot less busy/buzzy at surface street rates of travel compared to the S1000XR. There’s lots of America to see, Texas is wonderful but you’ll “run out of roads” pretty quick, further horizons will call, go for them, tons of interesting places and roads to travel.
It's a natural progression and really I have to say the Sport Touring is the best kind of riding by far. It's the best of both worlds. For me I'd be looking at an FJR1300 which leans a bit more to the touring, but on longer rides the extra weight and storage can be pretty nice. You were in Canada last year but I think you should go back and explore the twisty, scenic highway between Vancouver and Whistler, and some of the other beautiful places to see in BC.
Go. Go full dad mode. Let go of all resistance and buy the GS. Because of all upright touring motorcycles where you can put bags on, it is THE absolute best. (It really is.) everyone knows and you know it too. So forget your ego and enjoy the scenery.
I’ve been considering doing the sport tourer as well. What about the Yamaha FJR1300? That’s one I’ve been highly considering. Lacks the tech of the tracer but has so much more power and capability with passenger/gear.
Just turned 30, bought myself a 19 model Yamaha tracer 900GT.. hands down best bike Iv ever owned.. low windscreen and and no Paniers for every day stuff.. when you go on a trip, swap the big screen and Paniers back on and go old man style 👍 comfy, fun, powerful, and has all the bells and whistles 🤙

Get the S1000XR...I am the "Dad" you are talking about and I have this bike and enjoy all the giggles the XR provides. I rode it through Yellowstone, Teton and Glacier National Park last Summer and loved the power experience!!
Agree. I've owned a S1000XR since they came out (2015) and believe it to be the best all rounder I know of. I've tried to replace it for the last few years to no avail. It's no secret that it's an upright sports bike that goes 150mph. But it is also designed for luggage and long distance as well. I have 75K on mine with a handfull of 5K - 7K month long trips. I looked at the Tracer 9 GT over the past couple of seasons. It's cheaper, it's newer, but I haven't been able to convince myself its better.
I'm an old f@rt and never went crazy on motorcycles, but the thing I love most is doing long trips @ Andes (Argentina/ Chile). I live in Brazil and just to get there and start to this magnificent scenery I have to ride at least 1500/1800 miles. You live in one of the most beautiful countries in this world. There is nothing wrong with your 24 plans. Just enjoy it. I would go crazy if I live there.

I've been passing squids and poseurs on dad bikes since 2000. Makes for great conversations at the next stop sign or gas station. The BMW is sweet. My last DAD bike was a 2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000lt with full Traction Dynamics AK-20 suspension . Enjoy the ride. Make it what you want it to be.
I'm 61, got into riding only 20 years ago with a KTM 640 Supermoto. I don't have any real skill or knowledge in the sport, but my second bike (KTM 950 SM) was the most fun of them all. Light, fast, fun, nimble and simple. Toured easy with a Renazco seat and a couple of bags on the back. While competition, adventure and pursuit of technical skill is admirable, it's just a bike and it's the things and people you see on a ride that makes it special.
For "sport touring", I humbly suggest the Goldwing F6B. 125 HP and 125 ft pounds of torque. Plenty of power. I ride mine all day long. 200 to 300 miles a day. Very comfortable.
Years ago I met a guy with the ultimate adv bike. He pulled XR600 on a trailer with a Gold Wing. It cannot be any better than that
My uncle rode a BMW Boxer for years and years. A few decades ago he lost his leg below the knee in an accident and the BMW was easier for him to ride with his prosthetic. He still restores and rides a lot of bikes but the BMW is still his favorite.
I went full old geezer at the age of 24 when I bought my Road Glide. I enjoy cruising and having the luggage capacity for longer trips.
I lost my father last year to cancer at 57 and recently sold my bike to buy his. Yes i was a Harley style cruiser boy, big bars and loud pipes 😅 But now I ride my fathers bike, 2017 Honda ST1300. I’m half way through a 5,000km round trip north island to South Island NZ. I’m 34 and now I’m froathing at long trips, tent and go see some amazing spots and enjoy the journey! I think I’m hooked on on the sports tourer style 🤌🏻
Go the Ryan Fortnine route. Get a V-Strom 1000. V-Stroms are great on the road and they lean over nice. You can feel confident on a dirt road as well which is where a bunch of great scenery is located. Welcome to dad riding!

happens as you get older. I was a squid until I hit 30 and now I sold the sport bike and got a KLR650 and have not regretted it. I love the ability to hop a curb and do whatever I want.
Welcome to the slow side of life. I am almost 58, and let me tell you, the seat of my KTM 1290 Super Adventure R is my happy place. I had a Honda Fireblade 15 years ago, and it was fun, but only for a short while until that itch was scratched.
Ducati multistrada v4 family. Pick whichever one you like. I have a v4s and it laughable how far ahead of my other bikes it is. 9600 mile service intervals. All day comfort. Extremely sporty in the twistiest. It’s magic.
Has to be an adventure bike of some kind. It does offer you the ability to do high miles comfortably on the road and then go off road if you want to.
Get whatever makes you happy and feels most comfortable!
Hey noob, I have a 2023 BMW S 1000 XR the M trim. I have a full exhaust on it and velocity stacks, air filter and stage two Bren Tune. Let me tell you the bike really comes alive! it’s very comfortable you can tour on it. Put big miles and still when you get to the twisties it is so much fun because it’s making 185. Seriously look into that man highly recommend.
OK Noob, if you want the upright sitting, do everything perfect bike, go out and find a 2014 Honda CB1100. They are only black, incredibly smooth and quiet with a balance shaft, 88 horsepower, air and oil cooled, 6 speed transmission, fuel injected, 53 MPG, mag wheels with tubeless tires, wide flat low seat and analog gauges. If you want a surprising small bike, go find a 2012 Honda CBR250r which is quite light at 357lbs, fuel injected, water-cooled, 65 MPG, starts instantly and can still go 88MPH

Got my 1000sx for the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas. It did not disappoint.
My riding just changed a lot. I've been riding my 2001 Kawasaki ZRX1200R for 17 years but at 64 I needed something more comfortable and don't really need all the power anymore. I just bought a 2015 Suzuki VStrom 650 and I think this will be my last motorcycle. I love it ! Now I've had every type of motorcycle made and I've loved them all. 😁

i just got myself a 2019 tracer 900 at the age of 22 in the UK, i have the need for speed and want to be a hooligan, but for me the "tallrounders" are just the perfect bike for everything i do on the street. Tbf mine is essentially a wanna be supermoto, having done alot of adv styling mods in order to make it look, sound and perform more aggressive but its what i love about it
53 years old, I have a 2011 WR250R, 2015 Harley Sportster 48 and a 2014 Daytona 675R. Love riding them all but I'm not taking any of them on more than a 3 hour trip.

I had a triumph 1200 for a few years and loved it. I sold it and got a bmw r1200gsa and absolutely love it. I’ve owned a few s1000rr’s and a zh2 plus a lot of other bikes. The GS is an all around great bike and fast enough for what you’re looking to do. Although I liked my Yamaha xsr900 I’d have to cave for the s1000xr. The new M package looks sick and if I remember correctly the s1000rr won your expert bike for 2024. So it would be cool to see a comparison between the two😏
That Yammie 900 is calling.. Hard to beat that jewel.. a low 400Lb. bike with that much power and perfect quick shifter does it all.. I chose XSR, but adding a medium size fairing.. Biatch gets her own bike!
I'm currently on a BMW F900XR. It is my do it all machine and that works well for me with limited garage space. One day my goal is to add one more bike to the stable that'll most likely be a sport or naked bike for the weekends. For me that would be the ideal garage as it gives me a comfortable machine for do it all and then something fun for when you want to hoon around.

I went 'dad' mode with a tiger sport 660, it's not fast but it's so comfy and can ride on my learners (NZ), will probably upgrade to a tracer 9 or tiger 900 when I get my full
Congratz my friend! It is extremely satisfying to see that a former hothead, who also used to rant about brands like BMW, has finally reached the next level of maturity. It doesn't always have to be full throttle, relaxed cruising (and sitting upright) is usually the next logical (and sensible) step. The 2024 BMW S1000XR would be my number 2, for number 1 I would recommend a Multistrada. With the Pikes Peak (or even the RS) you can do everything: from relaxed cruising with radar and bags to trackdays.

I've had am S1000XR for 3 years. It's an awesome bike. Fast, comfortable and you can mount soft and hard luggage on it. Excellent bike. I've done 400 mile days and wknd trips on it. I think you will love it. Enjoy.
I am 70 years old and been riding sport bikes and Goldwings 80% of my life, until an accident that caused left arm issue and pulling a clutch. Most sport bikes I had were cable clutch. So I got a Suzuki Burgman 650 scooter for my 90 mile round trip commute. Full auto and no clutch. Rode 17 years now on these scooters. Gas and go @ 58 MPG.
But now most Sport/tours are hydraulic clutches and I am not commuting any more so I am researching shifter bikes. Do not need 125+ Horsepower anymore. Between 70 and 90 HP will do 150% of what I need, from mountain passes and blasts to 115+ MPH every so often. Heck, the Burgman 650 will do 110-115 MPH while you're sitting in a Lazy-Boy recliner.

Dude … it’s your Bunta OG biker dad here with some words of wisdom, well at least some words of experience. Since the 70’s I’ve done dirt bikes, OG enduro bikes (aka XL500), naked bikes before they were called that, and somewhere a little younger than you I inherited a Yamaha Venture 1100 - aka the touring version of the VMax. That became my everything…for years!!! Touring is a thing despite the BMW abuse, Gold Wing grey beards and of course the Harley boys. The Yamaha for decades was a generation ahead in the original Venture… and I put 1000’s of miles on that old beast before I sold it off…which I regret every day. But this is 2024 and for the last two years at nearly 55 I turned back to the naked world and fulfilled a lifelong dream of riding a daily Ducati. I started with the Monster 937 … great bike but 937 is not enough bike for riding the Rockies. And now call the new Street Fighter V2 my daily and that bike crushes everything other than the V4 litre bikes. BUT … ready for the rabbit hole … I still want a touring bike for long rides and extended trips. You know I have KTM cult friends on their 890 Adventures but that’s not my goal. I want a street / adventure ready touring beast and I want to have no compromises… enter the Ducati Multistrata V4 to my radar. Pikes Peak looks sick and the new race spec is not necessary for me (is any bike necessary?) But would love to see you on the Multi V4 on the channel … again because after riding all the madness that new bikes are today, I think we both know the 9 will never be enough bike. Also… that Desert Sled is on my list too!!!
I have a 22 Tracer 9 GT. Absolutely love it! Long trips? Yep. Still quick and nimble? Hell yes. Bunch of quality of life features and storage? You betcha. It does everything you want it to do!
Look at the Tiger 1200. The GT model or Rally model. And the explorer trim with 30 Liter (8 Gallon) tank.

And I just got home from putting a deposit on one, the Rally Explorer. I've been researching the subject now for about 2 months. To have that ultimate adventure/explorer bike. To go and ride and enjoy the adventure it takes you on. I have cfmoto ADVentura 650 and I get most of my miles on long weekend trips. I had a 1,000 mile trip a few weeks ago and a around a 500 mile trip this weekend 🤘🏼Enjoy the new experience!

I got my first bike in Feb 2022. I watched so many of your videos learning about motorcycles and a few other youtubers. I've been riding a flashed 2022 Z900 and it's a great bike. I recently bought a daytona 675 and man I didn't think with my back problems it would be a good purchase but I love that bike so much. Whatever you wanna do yam we support.
I have the Tracer 9GT (2022). Factory seat sucked, upgraded to a heated Corbin. The CP3 motor is smooth, the technology is nice (cruise control is neat). I am taller at 6'2 and it is comfortable. range is good and I love my red color.
