      The camera doesn't do the waves justice. The waves crashed on the side of the pontoon, and he also started surfing waves sideways which I've seen boats flip over from. Keep in mind, this guy is out with a baby on board

    Loving the comments, lot of boater's on here, not one myself but looking for next Summer.
    If you really wanna see pontoon or Tritoon test, check the Avalon, Barletta, Bennington pages.
    Avalon took a dual engine, Tritoon from Great Lake's, to Florida, to Cuba and back, they were in 3 to 4 ft waves, running bout 30mph.
    A Bennington did the Great Loop, and Barletta did a 200 mile run off the Washington coast.
    And recently, a Avalon Pontoon, with Hydrofoil went from Miami to Bimini.
    Salt water Tritoon s are the way to go 👍
    (PS: they've already taken a Sea-Doo Switch from Miami to Bimini with the pwc groups 👍)

    Maybe a larger tritoon could handle this but not a small pontoon. They just aren't made for this kind of water. Lake boats at best and if you do take it out in the bay NOT the ocean you better pray for a VERY glassy calm day.

  • @MegaSling
    @MegaSling ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jeeeze, what's the problem. People think pontoon boats can't handle any kind of seas. Today's pontoons are more capable than most know. They are tanks, unsinkable and can have enough HP to get them going 50+ mph. Keep that bow up in the air and you can handle some pretty big swells.

    • @LivinSalty
      @LivinSalty  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is this captain clearly had no idea what he was doing, and was endangering two other people on board. One of them being a baby. The ocean is unforgiving, and pontoons are not built to endure that kind of beating. No pontoon boat companies are advertising their boats going out of inlets on rough days. That's because they're not meant to.

    • @MegaSling
      @MegaSling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LivinSalty Beach Craft, Fiesta, Beachcomber and Beachcat along with others make coastal/offshore saltwater pontoons. I've been out that inlet 1000 times. That day wasn't bad and was just a bumpy ride. No big deal really but to some it may appear dangerous. Did you know pontoons are unsinkable. There decks may get washed but that it.

    • @LivinSalty
      @LivinSalty  ปีที่แล้ว

      The camera is always deceptive, these waves were 4ft easily, and I'm very familiar with this inlet so I know the wave height when I see it. I don't know how you could consider this a "bumpy day" when they were the only ones going out this day. They had absolutely no business going out this inlet on this day and put baby at risk for no reason at all.

    • @MegaSling
      @MegaSling ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jackbaskin371
      @jackbaskin371 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LivinSalty That is what they said about the Titanic, NO boat is "unsinkable" There is a lot more power in water than people realize, it can, will and has, ripped boats apart. In the 1960's the Aircraft Carrier I was on went through the eye of a typhoon and we took water over the bow which, when floating level, was around 90 feet above water line. Obviously we made it but the ship did suffer some serious damage.

      @@LivinSalty no, it doesn't, but then again "big surf" is relative I guess, the caption even states "seas 3-4 feet (meaning wind waves) and swells up to 6 feet) so end result is roughly 4-6 foot surf. Up the coast, off Cape Hatteras that's called "annoyingly rough", and at Cape Disappointment it's called "almost flat calm" 😄 Show me something 10 feet and I would say "fun surf", 18-20 feet? That's big surf! 🤣

    Why would a rental company let him take that out in such rough seas? Sometimes I think we need real boating licenses in FL, with consequences for crazy behavior similar to auto licenses.

    • @LivinSalty
      @LivinSalty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn’t agree more! I think it’s insane that you need a license to drive a car, but not a boat. Although many do have licenses, it is crazy the amount of people who don’t have one. Boats are a different animal than cars!!

    • @GeorgeBonez
      @GeorgeBonez 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      We don’t need anymore laws or licenses. If people want to F their boats up and kill themselves it’s really their business. If you demand licensing and more laws the Gov will just figure out ways of using it against everyone they don’t like much like all other laws and regulations. Sometimes I think America is now full of people that really don’t know how to be free or even want freedom anymore.
      If this dude wants to destroy his pontoon boat and risk his family who are you and I to tell him/her they can’t? We should mind our own business and leave folks alone!
