  • In this video ill show you how to pot Anubias plants in Hydroton for hydroponic propagation. This simple method works great for propagating Anubias and other epiphytic plants like Java Fern or Bucephalandra. The substrate and pots are reusable too so you only need to buy the materials once, saving you money in the long run.

    They are looking really healthy! Thanks for the detailed video 🙏🏻. Do you also still do foliar feeding? What do you use for that?

    I made the same tank with crushed lava rocks, and rocks perfectly 👌
    Just, I've been thinking. If I let the media soak up water with nutrient solution, then let it dry out, I would make the inert substrate become active substrate with nutrient.
    What do you think?

      To an extent! It would probably deplete quickly though and if submerged in water would probably lose any ferts it gained back to the water.

    how often do you cut them? Mine doubled in size in a month and I'm not sure if it's too early in propagation. From my experience, it grows faster when it's cut aggressively.

    hello, I have a hydroponic system like yours, with the difference of the substrate since in my country it is difficult to get it. My question is will it be possible to use some other type of substrate? I have lava rock in the pots

      Any similar sized substrate should work. It’s mainly just an inert medium to support the plants.

    How concentrated is the fertiliser in the water at the bottom?

      Good question. I mix my hydroponic solution to approximately the dosage recommended on the bottle. In terms of ppm, I would estimate the Nitrogen content at 100-150ppm. I use test strips so it is difficult to get an accurate reading but 100-150N should be in the ballpark. 👍

    if the rhizome sits above the water level, does it affect the plant in your experience? or are you still using foliar spraying to keep the plants moist?

    • @AquariumPlantLab
      @AquariumPlantLab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do not foliar spray Anubias anymore. They sit above the water and I’ve found that they grow great this way and it’s less work. Just use a lid to keep humidity as high as possible and keep roots underwater as much as possible 👍

    You still adding the 9-3-6 into the water?!?!(water change once a week?)

      Lately I’ve been using maxigro. Change the water once every month or so. Works well for me.

    When will there be a part 3 of anubias seeds? I’m starting out an emersed setup with some of might and wanting to try out collecting seeds. I personally have some sort of hybrid large Anubis that flowered. It’s in a semi submerged setup, which really is, it’s too tall for my 20g long and leaves stick out against the lid. The flower stock grew to above the water line so I’ve been watching it. I watched your other videos and heard how you have to have multiple flowers at once to pollinate. I’ve been daily using a thin paint brush to rub the entire flower stock, even as it has started closing up, sticking the brush down the closing flower. Doing my own experiment to see how it goes, and it’s not gonna hurt anything so might as well!

      Depends on species but most are wrapped in a wet paper towel and put in a labeled sealed plastic bag. 👍

    are anubias in emersed system less trouble than in submersed ? as far as i know growing emersed plant much more faster growth and no algae to combat than growing submersed but other than that is there any other benefit? which one more easier for anubias submersed or emersed? i really wanted to make anubias emersed setup back then but i saw many anubias problems in emersed setup ,like if too much light , fertz or not enough humidity will make a trouble , need your opinion
