Damien is the kind of friend I'd keep in the cheating question specifically. He wouldn't outright just cut me off but he'd hold me accountable and encourage me to be better. I want my friends to expect things of me and tell me if I fuck up.

Yeah, everybody's saying that Damien was the only one right about straight up cutting off the friendship

The way Damien was like “I hold my friendships to a decent moral standard because I think people should be held accountable for their bad actions even if it’s at the detriment to that friendship” and Keith basically said “nah don’t do that. Lower the standards of your friends' morality because excusing bad behavior is easier than putting a single thought into re-evaluating and straining your friendship in any way” is the ickiest self report.

    • @notlark650

On god. And the way Keith was just casually like "some of my friends cheat 🤷" and laughed it off disgusted me. One thing people don't bring up enough is how Keith didn't even at least say sorry to Kimmy when he was doing his rant on dog instragrams. Like that was being rude to her face but for him it was like "hey I don't know her enough since she hasn't been doing skits much since I got here so I'm gonna continue talking trash about her being one of those dog people" even if you want to continue your dumb rant, the appropriate thing to do is to at least say "sorry" before continuing. Keith definitely seems like he'd be a cheater as well, he enables them because he probably has been one.

@N_ Phi Not always the case. There are situations where you want out but don't want to be the one to say it. There are situations where saying "it's over" will cause more long term, or even short term harm than doing something that makes them leave you. I don't condone cheating, but sometimes it's easier for people to MAKE a reason to leave than to do it because you no longer love. The 'I have no expectations of my friends' discourse was wild to me. So you never expect them to care about you or the people around them? You never expect them to be there for you? You never expect them to like certain things, or want to do things together? I have expectations from my friends because I know who they are and I want them to have expectations of me too (I'll be there for them, I want to spend time together, I value our friendship, etc). That's how friendship works.

I agree with Damien on the whole cheating thing..if you truly care about someone, and it's a deep enough friendship to do so, you should hold each other accountable. That doesn't mean you should necessarily end the friendship, but you should have a serious talk about what they did and why. And if it's not a close friendship, I would definitely distance myself. As someone who's been cheated on, I really have no respect for cheaters. If you're in a 'committed' relationship and decide you want to break that trust to be with someone else, breaking up should always be the reaction, not cheating. It hurts less to be broken up with than to be cheated on, imo.

Exactly, cheating on someone is breaking their partner's trust and if they are capable of doing that they're very capable of breaking their friend's trust on various other things, not necessarily once a cheater always a cheater, but it's pretty much the case a lot of the time. Personally if I had a friend that cheated on their partner, I'd very seriously consider wanting to be friends with them.

And not everyone has to be in a committed thing, but the whole point of saying I'm committing to this person and choosing not to be with others, even if I'm tempted. And as someone else said, if you decide not to be with someone anymore, then break up with them. It just feels like you not givening this person you claim to care for respect when you aren't upfront with them.

@@urmom6670the prompt is about splitting a check. when you go out with friends, it’s usually common to split the check. the best and most polite way to split a check is to pay for what you ordered. however, dividing the entire bill is not the best. for example if i only ordered some boneless wings and a soda and my friends ordered a tomahawk steak, i should only be paying for my wings and drink since that is what i ate. some people like to divide the bill and make others pay for their expensive plate which isn’t right. covering for someone’s bill is different though. in this case, if you ordered a very expensive plate you should pay for that, not your friends. especially if your broke that week and someone tries to make me pay a divided check that includes everyone’s meals that’s unfair. if i only have $20 for my meal i’m going to order something under that because i should only be paying for MY meal

What i think about this is that yes people had to be held accountable but ending your friendship is abandonment which feels like you just don't wanna get caught in it and if you're that kind of friend then you might not be the best ones. If i have a friend who has cheated on their partner i will judge them and i will keep on reminding them of it but i will not just go like "hey you cheated you're bad influence i don't wanna be friends anymore". I get the part where it's problematic to say "i don't wanna judge you because it has nothing to do with me" and you should call out wrong doings but just ending a friendship and leaving a person behind knowing that they are on the wrong path of life is almost irresponsible which in this case, "unaccountable".

But shit, they couldn't even be trusted in their romantic relationship, how could I trust them to be a good friend? But that circumstance is VERY specific, and even then, most people would likely be too scared to even try cheating in the first place, then.
Otherwise? Cheating is childish, harmful (emotionally AND potentially regarding physical health, disease, and pregnancy as well), shows lack of character, and shows how little they care for others.
If they make the effort to change, feel true remorse, and make things right with the other party/parties if that's what the victims want? Okay, sure, stick around and help them through it, maybe keep an eye on their behavior from then on. Otherwise? Drop 'em

There's some truth to what Keith said about not expecting stuff out of people, but ONLY when it's mundane stuff like meeting friends on time or paying a debt. You should, however, ALWAYS expect the most basic of all basic moral ethics from an individual, especially from your friends. Like Damien, Spencer, and to an extent, Keith said, distance yourself or hold them accountable. You can't let something as bad as cheating just slide.

Seemed like they weren’t taken seriously or shown respect when trying to share their idea. This has been brought up in a few comments but I feel like this really need to be herd. It seems that the other side who gets cheated on is not considered in these discussions. I was in a ten tear relationship, found out that my partner cheated on me with his coworker. That devastated me. I got depressed, started taking antidepressants, had to search help from a therapist. The breakup happened about a year ago, and I’m still in recovery. This case screwed with my mental state. My ex confessed it to his best friend and I’m dissapointed in his friend that he didn’t do anything. A friend is a lifelong relationship that you need, a romantic partner isn’t necessary for life.
In a relationship you’re looking for a specific person, if your current doesn’t work then you look for someone who does.
It’s much different with friends, cause you make such different types.

Other websites also point to research saying that fridge-stored eggs are fine for AT LEAST two months!

@@michaelhuit I agree that some people truly see friendships in that manner but to me that's still bananas. If you are an awful person and I know, no way I find you fun to be around. You are tainted.

I suspect it has more to do with needing g connections in a tough city like LA. They might not want to burn a bridge "unnecessarily". I still disagree but I get it.

@@thatsprettylunchean I was friends with someone I hated for a long time because they were so influential with my other friends I did like.
Basically if I cut them off my social life would be gone and I wouldn't have any friends.
Luckily that all changed when I graduated highschool.

The cheating bit weirded me out. If you’re friend is unfaithful enough with their significant other, imagine how unfaithful of a friend they’d be to you. I just cant trust someone who cheats. Ive cut off LOT of people I called friends when I found out they cheated. Ive been cheated on as well, it HURTS. Its worse than a break up because they went behind your back to get some sort of satisfaction instead of bringing the issue up to you like they should.

i agree whole heartedly, I know that if I ever face this situation myself it’s the right to distance or just cut off. Staying or befriending people who cheat can greatly influence your views negativity. And yes, a lot of people just don’t know how much it hurts being broken up with their partners who they care about deeply. Damien and Spencer speaks truth

Lowkey, Damien has been the butt-end of the stick in a lot of recent episodes. Shayne is the only one that gives him the time of day anymore. Everyone else looks genuinely dissatisfied with being in the same episode with him (based on facial expressions and lack of taking him seriously) and it’s heartbreaking.
Also, do people really not invite him to functions after work? Kinda f***ed up if you ask me lmaoo I thought it was a joke at first.
Man is too talented to be looked down upon like he is.

Ehh there may be awkwardness between certain castmates but I do think you're viewing this a bit too parasocially. Think of it this way, when you go to work are you friends with ALL of your coworkers or mostly just some? And would you constantly invite over ALL of your coworkers? I know for sure that I wouldn't. Like yeah, if you happen to identify as a person that gets excluded then this would be hard to watch, but from what we can tell, Damien is respected at his workplace and gets along well with several coworkers. Also they joke about him and Olivia not being friends and all that but he probably doesn't hold her in high regard either, seeing as she can be a bit ~ignorant~ sometimes.

I agree with both OP and this last comment ^^^
I think OP is right, Damien is not a preferred recreational teammate to these people, but they probably give him respect in the office as a coworker. You can choose your teammates, you can't choose your coworkers.

so many jokes about him right? and people don't seem to like him as much as the others. almost everyone (besides shayne) seems perpetually frustrated by his presence and it's weird?? he seems like a genuine and kind person, and he's funny. so weird that it's become such a running joke that he's left out of every group gathering lmao.

Yeah, you definitely don't know the inner workings of your friend's relationships, but I'm fully with Damien on the issue. A committed relationship is built on trust, just like a friendship, and if your friend knowingly betrays their partner's trust, I think some talk has to be had. *Especially* if you know both parties and are close to them, *especially* then, but even if you don't know their partner. On top of that, who's to say they won't betray *your* trust as their friend, if they went and did *that?*
As for actually ending the friendship, that I'd base on how the friend reacts when confronted.

Fr. They betrayed their partner, the one they were supposed to cherish and care for above all else. Someone who's able to do that is not someone I wanna be friends with. I don't care how long we've been friends, there's no good reason to cheat excluding extenuating circumstances such as abuse. But if one of my friends is abusing a friend of mine they're dating, they're getting their ass kicked anyway so that doesn't matter

For the cheating thing, it'd rough. How can you expect someone to be committed to a friendship when they can't even commit to their partner?

Having expectations isn't like getting your hopes up of whatever. It's healthy to have some in place with every relationship to reinforce boundaries. I think that if someone doesn't meet the bare minimum repeatedly then they really don't care as much as you do.
