  • Making handle and scabbard out of iroko wood for a damascus tanto blade forged by @sperber-knives Video about the blade here:
    • Making a Tanto-style k...
This type of construction can be disassembled completely, the wood tapered pins is the only thing that locks the handle together, everything else is just friction.
This is why I made this tapered pin jig:
    • Wood Tapered Pins Jig ...
I love the look of this iroko wood but It might be too figured for a sleek look of this kind, it's kind of easy to see the split lines, in other kind of more homogeneous woods it would have been less noticeable. It's also splintery so not the best to carve!

I watched the tapered dowel making video too. I was just wondering why use tapered dowels in stead of normal round ones? Doesn't it look weird to have two different size "dots" on opposite sides of the handle. Or is that the intention of the design? Thanks in advance.

I'm so amazed that 1 wooden pin is enough to hold both the blade and the handle. That really surprises me.

The Damascus on that blade is beautiful and the finished product is gorgeous!!! You have just prompted my memory that I found a handless blade in a 30 year old storage caravan that one of my viewers wanted and I totally forgot about it.....eeek, so thanks for the unintended reminder lol!

Wow, a gorgeous handle/scabbard (fantastic looking wood !), and a beautiful damascus pattern in the steel.
Personally, i'm not a fan of full bolsters in general (they're usually structurally unnecessary and always get in the way of sharpening on anything other than a belt grinder - which most ppl dont own). Aside from that tiny nit, it's truly a stunner. Hat's off to both of you. 🥰👍

I always love your work, but there are a few things I see in this video that are not typical of your usual style. That may have been intentional, and if so, kudos. I am curious why you left the gap in the brass on the blade side near the ricasso... I would think that would draw the eye to that spot unintentionally... Also, where the sheath and the handle come together, why the gap there? You do an amazing job, so I hope my comments are not dejecting, as they aren't meant to be!
