We can use E-fuels for everything we can't or don't want to power with electricity or with hydrogen. As with hydrogen production, e-fuels are a lot less energy efficient than just using the electricity in an electric car or a train. Nice video, really like your work and liked the feature on efuel. Apart from super/hyper cars (NSX, 918, P1, etc...) is there a fun to drive Hybrid? (With a bit of EVOness)
What Henry forgot to mention is that these e-fuels are super expensive because breaking water into hydrogen and oxygen is very onerous from an energy point of view, and the laws of physics say it cannot be improved. When all is said and done, making a few liters of e-fuel uses vast amounts of energy, and then 65% of that fuel will be wasted as head (see Carnot cycle) when transformed into mechanical power in the ICE . So altogether it could take 10kwh of energy to get 1kwh of mechanical energy for e-fuels, versus maybe 2kwh of total energy to get 1kwh of mechanical energy with an electric car (after accounting for transmission and storage losses). No government will allow e-fuels to grow in any scale given this extra low energetic efficiency of e-fuels, particularly as we already have shortage of power generation in most places throughout the world. Not happening
How about semi trucks, planes they travel everyday evs these would be non existent they dont have that much range evs maybe better on car but on trucks and planes e fuels would be better
@@christopherayala4619 My comment is really in relation to e-fuels for car where EV is a viable solution, but clearly for aviation electric power is not possible given power density limit of batteries vs hydrocarbons. Still, if one wants a “closed-loop” fuel system (i.e. where carbon is taken out of the environment in order to produce fuel) then arguably bio-fuels (i.e. fuel made from plants) are a preferable alternative as they too take carbon dioxyde out of the environment (albeit not necessarily as much CO2 out of the air) and produce fuel at a much lower energetic cost than e-fuels. Porsche needs to let go e-fuels; there will be plenty of oil in the ground for decades to come, the governments will tax ICE cars and fuels to the point where it doesn’t make sense to buy new ones anymore. Older ICE will always run, and as oil price (pre-tax) increases over time as the existing supply dwindles, other oil wells that are currently not economical to exploit at less than $50 per barrel will become viable alternatives. Based one what I have read, fossil oil could still be cheaper than e-fuels even at $200 per barrel. Porsche should instead invest some money in carbon capture programs if they want to feel better about their ICE legacy
@@lastlondon I think governments banning new ice cars is just all propaganda there will be alot of demand of making ice cars companies will be happy to
Great review as always Henry! Is it me or did you do this review in Milton Keynes town centre? But since the car is Europe spec, the review took place in Germany?
Thanks Henry, this complements nicely Harry’s video on same posted last Sunday. Those fortunate few in this rarified sector may ponder this is virtually as quick as the 911 (992) T but a bit cheaper and more usable. The non Turismo looks even better.
The nighttime onboard shot is so beautiful I switched to our 3K laptop. By the way, I rarely differ from you Mr. Catchpole but describing a 140,000-Pound Porsche as a reasonable hybrid is pretty hilarious.
Panamera 4 e-hybrid isn’t nearly as nice to drive in comparison to the GTS and above. Porsche gave the ‘lesser’ models more of a comfort and day to day executive feeling rather than the punchy straight to the bends higher end models, especially seen by the GTS. As for the Taycan 4S? Well that’s interesting because you’re comparing a base electric Porsche to the top hybrid, i’d still take the Turbo S-E, but if electric stations are more dependable, then my choice could change.
I have the 4E Panamera and would say once you go above 120K USD for a Panamera then just go for the full petrol non hybrid version like the GTS and Turbo S because if your looking for performance then removing 300KG of a battery in the rear does make a big big big difference. Trust me you do feel the weight of the car once you take it to some twisty country roads and you would be so annoyed by the additional 300 KG of weight that you are carrying for the sake of a lower emission tax. If this is gonna be a daily driver just get the entry level 4-E hybrid like I did and save those additional money for something else.
Can we assume that if we make hydrocarbons from pure CO2 and H2 instead of extracting by refining crude oil, there would be much less impurities that lead to real pollution like PM?
Cool. Nice review as always. I'm waiting, perhaps in vain, for a smaller Porsche 4 door. It may never happen since Porsche is VAG and Audi already has such cars. Not going to return to Audi, so for now it'll be Porsche for the sports car and BMW for the other vehicle needs.
5:50 oh no, not this again. To make ethanol out of hydrogen an CO2 is enormously expensive, it costs like €70-80/liter, it is a massive waste of resources that could be used more efficiently. (Like charging your electric car with the solar power directly). This e-fuel idea is floated every 7 years, then it gets invariably dropped, then brought back again.
I don’t know any friends that are worried about leaving emissions in the city and want to buy a emission free car. I do know people that like the instant power and torque from the electric cars.
As long as the name is, it seems to be the best choice in it's class. Sure, it's not as dramatic as an AMG, but it's quite a good package in itself. And it's a Porsche. Enough said.

I have an old 289 V8 with a 4 barrel Holly and a 4 speed top-loader. It exhausts out of a 2 inch Pacemaker and sounds like God, shouting. You have an appliance.
Does this complex drivetrain have simple load protection for the combustion engine ? Or does customer gently drive away out of the suburbs, and just hits the floor when the motorway appears ? Resulting in cold start -> Instant full load on the ICE.
I would like to make a suggestion: could you please make a video how to drive the damn thing, I mean after the battery deplets it's energy you have only the added weight! How should you use this contraption, charge every 40 miles, charge on the go , use the battery hold. Please could you elaborate on the use of the hybrid system.
Leave it in Hybrid auto is probably the best strategy. As for the hybrid system being dead weight there is one trick it can (and does) use even at constant speed. That is to use the motor/generator to load the engine to put it into a more efficient load condition and then use the electricity generated to "sail" later on. It's a bit like an automated burn and coast but using the battery rather than inertia as the energy store. Given that burn and coast can easily give 20% improvement in efficiency we might expect perhaps 15% from this system.
Other candidates include: *Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 Super Veloce* *Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ-400* *Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Autobiography* Or, as Singer have to phrase it for legal reasons: *Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer Vehicle Design* to which we can add 'Dynamics and Lightweighting Study' for the Williams DLS.
I drove the new "regular" E-Hybrid recently, good lord what a snooze. Sure it's nice if you have a sizeable family to drive around, but it's so frigging large while offering no emotional experience whatsoever.
It is an executive-aimed vehicle the lower end Panamera’s with it’s softer suspension and better sound deadening with the V6’s. The moment you drive the higher trims (ESPECIALLY the GTS) Porsche throws in more of their brilliant dynamic systems into the car to hide its weight much better than say a 4e-hybrid. Plus the Panamera is a heavy car, you can’t expect 911 levels of driving experience. But it is a near base model after all.
@@kkfarmedkk sure but things like rear wheel steering could help make it feel smaller (smaller effective turning circle). feel smaller, mind you, but not necessarily lighter.

No government will allow e-fuels to grow in any scale given this extra low energetic efficiency of e-fuels, particularly as we already have shortage of power generation in most places throughout the world. Not happening
just some buzzwords to keep the general public happy ;p
@@lastlondon I think governments banning new ice cars is just all propaganda there will be alot of demand of making ice cars companies will be happy to
@@lastlondon imagine in the future where everyday cars are full evs but diesel semi trucks planes still be using combustion engine is weird
Great review as always Henry! Is it me or did you do this review in Milton Keynes town centre? But since the car is Europe spec, the review took place in Germany?
Henry, what about using the hemp plant, Henry Ford did?
My favorite thing about this is the green accents
How do cities ensure that you're using electric only mode within their limits? Do they just go by sound and the honor system?
Thanks Henry, this complements nicely Harry’s video on same posted last Sunday.
Those fortunate few in this rarified sector may ponder this is virtually as quick as the 911 (992) T but a bit cheaper and more usable. The non Turismo looks even better.
Oil is not just extracted and refined to fuel transport.
Never wanted one, but thanks to Henry I now do.
What's with the lime green badge?
Is it too much unconfortable for daily drive?
Is the 4.0 v8 same as the rs6 urus engine ?
The nighttime onboard shot is so beautiful I switched to our 3K laptop. By the way, I rarely differ from you Mr. Catchpole but describing a 140,000-Pound Porsche as a reasonable hybrid is pretty hilarious.
I am slightly annoyed by the fact that they had Audi sandbag the Rs6 to ensure this would be faster.
But the RS Q8 is faster than the Urus. But I think their price difference is larger
another amazing video
wow i like your videography👍
Great vid, as always - how does this car compare to the 4E-hybrid? Or indeed the 4S Taycan? Would be an interesting comparison...
Sea BreezeUK Harry's Garage has just the video for you! 😉
Well that’s interesting because you’re comparing a base electric Porsche to the top hybrid, i’d still take the Turbo S-E, but if electric stations are more dependable, then my choice could change.
damn the review went through the night!
I couldn’t agree more.
...your utmost informativ video so far! ( you should dive in deeper this way - sets you apart from the others...
It may be the future for enthusiasts wanting to still be able to drive ICE cars, with the idea that it'll become cheaper over time
Is there no non hybrid turbo/turbo s model anymore?
I don’t know any friends that are worried about leaving emissions in the city and want to buy a emission free car. I do know people that like the instant power and torque from the electric cars.
Beautiful car, but I'd take the regular Turbo.
As long as the name is, it seems to be the best choice in it's class. Sure, it's not as dramatic as an AMG, but it's quite a good package in itself. And it's a Porsche. Enough said.
Trillions like and best comment for you because you are best on Earth and follower respect you,we need videos in Real 120fps or 240fps 4K,8K and Sound in FullHD Surrounded,
I have an old 289 V8 with a 4 barrel Holly and a 4 speed top-loader.
With fly-by-wire throttle and boost control I doubt the system will give you fully loud when cold even if you ask for it.
Why not fully electric? They have all the tech now right with the taycan...? Or was that just for show?
The Taycan SP is coming later in the year - or early 2022 - depending on the market.
This averages 85 mpg ? A range of 1,785 from a 21 gallon tank?
Needs a longer name
Grow up. Every concept in the name is necessary and adds something.
Can I get a track version with the V8 but no battery?
(I think I'd pay the same price (one day) for that beautiful engine and body by itself!)

Other candidates include:
*Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 Super Veloce*
*Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ-400*
*Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Autobiography*
Or, as Singer have to phrase it for legal reasons:
*Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer Vehicle Design*
to which we can add 'Dynamics and Lightweighting Study' for the Williams DLS.

Mpg?
I drove the new "regular" E-Hybrid recently, good lord what a snooze. Sure it's nice if you have a sizeable family to drive around, but it's so frigging large while offering no emotional experience whatsoever.
Interesting - so you also found it felt large - like Harry M.; (I was surprised Henry doesn't, here...).
It looks big, feels big and is big. Duo to the design of its headlamps, it would be very difficult to make it appear smaller then it is.
@@kkfarmedkk sure but things like rear wheel steering could help make it feel smaller (smaller effective turning circle). feel smaller, mind you, but not necessarily lighter.
@@DavidChong Feel in wheelbase, but not its size in general. Visually, it feels very big and wide. And correctly so. Its nearly 2 meters wide. Not to mention with the softer design on the hood, with the headlights.
Almost 2.5 tonnes!
