"Hello everyone, today we will learn the skill of having big hands" Ok I kid, the funny thing is Rachmaninoffs music isn't actually too terrible demanding in that aspect in spite of reputation, at least when compared to other composers like Chopin & Liszt who were actually far more willing to include stretchs beyond a 10th than Rachmaninoff. Though he really like to include other notes in such a way that the pinky is still being abused perhaps even more so than say Chopin's multiple instances of "fuck you grab an 11th" Another note is that we have recordings of Rach himself playing the piece and he actually rolled those famous opening chords, which is interesting because it's since become a sort of rite of passage to showoff by playing those chords as evenly as possible (rythym not voicing to be clear).
