This is wonderful....he was just a kid...a young singer/songwriter practicing his craft, yet fearlessly playing live, and connecting with the audience with his wit and personality...the folk music scene was VERY popular nationally at the time. Who could have asked for more of a young kid before the unknown national recognition from fame in the Monkees and beyond. I was only 7. Before the Beatles showed up in Feb 1964. RIP Michael Nesmith, you did good!
@@avliskToday it was 59 years ago when the Monkees came out on TVS all over Our Country. I have loved the Guys since then! This year 2024 I found all of Mike's extensive written songs and listened to most of them. Today I found this one of Mike's singing live. I love this too!
I would call Mike a Phenom of Music. He couldn't write songs and store it in his memory until he would write it down and arrange it on how it should sound! If you are Mike's fan check out all his videos and albums. He did so much and His Book is informative too! Enjoy Mike Nesmith and pass it on to the next generation or two.😊❤🙋🏻
Mike played at a pizza place, Mulberry near Trinity in San Antonio, I used to hear him there. His music was fun and he had a great sense of humor..He drove a Sprite sports car with a busted headlight. Any of you guys have pics or music from there? Hugh B.
It sounds like Mike was in the folk music company with artists such as Hoyt Axton & Tom Paxton and the 1960s Hootenanny phase. Little twinges of pre-Monkee carryovers are apparent as well. This was probably when he may have been promoting his Highness 45 single: "Wanderin'" b/w "Well, Well:".
chemicalblowout12345 the first song is "Pastures of Plenty" originally by Woody Guthrie. I should point out that not long before this time Bob Dylan was obsessed with "being just like" Woody. Well, Mike Nesmith sounded more like Woody (except more pleasant) and did Woody's songs much better than Dylan ever did. The other one you ask about is a version of "Who's Gonna Shoe Your Feet?" also done by Woody Guthrie.
Hi! I know this is an older comment but yes Mike did say that his first wife Phyllis, who was herself a folk singer for a while, would pronoun Bob's last name as "Die-lan." I can't tell if he's mispronouncing it here after her (she introduced him to Dylan's music) or if he's teasing her. When they later got a dog Phyllis named the dog "Die-lan," as Mike says, to remember her naivete. 😅😊
Then I burst in the room, point at Mike and say "That's my angel!!!" (This is a Bus Stop reference, with Mike in the MM role. The sexes are reversed, lol)
This is why Mike made a Great Monkees! His solo albums had his vast number of songs that he wrote! Look them up on TH-cam and listen and believe in Mike!
I love that Nez was as shy as he was talented!!! Totally disarming........RIP DAVY, MIKE AND PETER
This is a real gem. Nez has such a beautiful voice and it's fun to hear how charming he was even back then.

He always makes me smile... He's brilliant.... Always was, always will be...
There is nothing quite as sweet as Nez and an acoustic guitar - priceless!
This is from a very rare bootleg CD entitled "Solo Sessions 1963-1965." Every now and then it shows up on ebay.
I seem to keep coming back to watch this. It's so great. Love the song "Looks Like Rain."
I just adore how in shows he would giggle and say thank you over and over when people cheered for him ^u^
Mike is brilliant. His voice is absolutely beautiful.
WHAT an incredible discovery!
"What would you say to a television show?" Unintentional foreshadowing haha
😆
Geez, that was a quick 50 years!
Update: Geez, that was a quick 9 more years!

Well, he partially got his wish: He was able to get on a tv show, once a week.
He was the cool one and loved his hats
THIS IS SOME GOOD SHIT SIGN ME UP FOR THIS SHIT
I RELATE TO THIS COMMENT
Is this available on cds anywhere? This is great stuff! Mike is amazing in my opinion.
yes, "mike nesmith: rarities"
Being in San Antonio, I wonder if he and Doug Sahm crosses paths
"Bob Die-lin." In his book, didn't he say Phyllis mispronounced Dylan? (4:45)

Mike’s Texas accent is pretty strong here but its fine cutie

***** I only just wish I was there!
Where did you get this?
Does anyone know the name of the first song and the song at 11:09?
First song is Pastures Of Plenty by Woody Guthrie.
11:09 is Don't Let the Deal Go Down by Mike Nesmith
@@Nerfball6 That's actually a traditional song. Woody Guthrie calls it "Who's Gonna Shoe Your Foot?"
Mike thought he doesn't play the guitar well! I disagree with that! He is talented and we see and hear it!
