My career is in Cybersecurity and the burnout and high turnover rates are insane. The problem is there are so many vacancies in tech overall but the gatekeepers of most of the big tech companies are not desperate or inclusive enough to fill those roles with people who don’t look or act like them. Its sad but anyone who is interested in it shouldn’t feel defeated because there are many women of color trying to pave the way. Thanks for your insight on this topic, it should definitely be discussed more. 🙌🏽❤️
I really enjoyed this video. No in tech but transitioning and I'm tired of hearing how great it is. Give me some realistic expectation and you did that. Thanks.
The microagressions topic needs to be a discussion at ALL companies. I recently saw a diagram of what the microagressions says, what it actually means, and why that statement is a problem and I was mindblown because I had normalized a lot of trash behavior and comments just because I'm black. I'm getting better at responding to them but I'm so caught off guard that I'm usually flustered for a comeback. Currently working on it. Thank you for sharing the Cons of working in tech.
I too have faced A LOT of microaggressions. As a Black female in the south (Tennesse) with a PhD, it has been hard. I am happy to know you are responding when you can. I would suggest, however, to not focus too much on the aggressions, as hard as that may sound. Know that you are doing something good when you're treated with disrespect by those who are haters. I've had to take a break and refocus my attention on Christ to reenergize myself. Sometimes the constant struggle to be respected can take a toll on the body.
I love your comment about salary, there’s lots of money to be made in tech and six figures or more is definitely a reasonable and attainable salary for the work that we do in tech.
I praise Yah for convicting you to share the reality of working in tech. I am a student majoring in cybersecurity and I prayed and asked Yah to guide my steps. Watching this video was a breath of fresh air because it gives me the blue print of what to expect as a black woman. Thank you 🙏🏽
I loved this video! This was so helpful. I want to start a career in tech, and I think i'm going to graduate school first. But I want to know what to expect and make sure this is a career I wouldn't mind going into. A lot of the things you mentioned made me nervous, but I didn't lose my excitement about it. I think this is a sign that I should give it a shot.
Definitely give it a shot! The way I look at it is, no matter what decision, industry, or path in life you choose- there will always be pros and cons. Sometimes it just helps to know them upfront so that you can show up as your best prepared self. Wishing you all the best 💕🙌🏾
to me it allways kind of appeared like its allways hard for the black woman... you guys are on the one side the most expected off while on the other side being the most supressed and looked down upon ... like you allways have to be strong and all that stuff while going thru all this injustice and constant criticism from like everywhere... and dare you if you get angry about all that... is there some truth behind my perception? im just seeking a better understanding of your perspective and i would apreciate it if you could tell me if im on the right track here cuz in the end i dont know what its like to be you. it is ok not to be ok sometimes and dont be so hard to yourself if you are burned out you gots to chill i guess... and thats ok you deserve the rest maybe more then anybody else i mean collectivly speaking. but what do i know? anyways, i whish u all the best and sorry if i overstepped a boundary i really shouldnt. please correct me in that case... PEACE!

Your manager can definitely impact your team and experience!

Do you think being a pretty black woman helps?
‘Pretty’ is subjective and honestly irrelevant.
I find that focusing on what and who I know, does the trick 😉
It actually makes you a target I found if you solely focus on that
As a Mexican girl that wants to go into tech , 😢 this makes me sad ,there is only 4 % of us in
Dont be discouraged, we need you!! 🙌🏾♥️
