Make a Magic Illusion Box - (Pepper's Ghost Box)

This is a fun optical illusion project. You just need a couple of supplies like a box and a sheet of glass from a picture frame. Very creative project that you can have fun with.

Hey Will, i have an idea, maybe you'd like to make it. It uses the same reflexion method. What you have to is furst use the same set up for the walls of the box, BUT you make the scene behind the glass, in the black walls. Then, what you do is add something, like a ghost in the part where the light shines. So then, all you see is the scene, for example, an old town. Then, when you turn the light on, the ghost appears, and is actually transparent. I can send a Diagram if you'd like

great question. The thing about the image is that it is ghostly because it isn't 100% solid.

Good way to display anything that you want people to look at but not touch.

The point of the ghost box is to superimpose a transparent image over a a solid image to create a ghost effect. By reflecting the entire scene you lose the whole reason of doing the trick.
If you had put the glass infront of an empty field and had a bunch of figures on a black background then you'd have something that made use of the illusion's purpose. Ghost soldiers on a solid field.

Another thing you could do with this is put the scenery where the glass is, and leave the area with the figures blank, so it looks more like ghosts. But still, great job.

I understand that it's a mirrored image, but when somebody who's looking in doesn't realize that, isn't it the same as looking at the real diorama?
I'm starting to realize it's more about the trick, then it's about an actual 'magical' effect...

I think you should make the background picture straight into your face, the reflection must be only some object you want the observer perceives as a ghost...

I agree Peppers ghost was a stage effect to allow a ghost to appear on a stage during a scene. What you have done is made the second part without the first part, seems a little stupid to do it like that. Perhaps you should look into Victorian theater effects and then do it again but get it right.

Yeah, I would have put the scene in front view and the the black and figures in the lit up scene so it looked like the ghost fighters were on the battlefield. Great video though, thanks for sharing

I'm afraid I don't understand the illusion. What makes it special? The fact that it seems to appear out of nowhere when you switch on the light? Or does it add extra depth or something?
