In LatAm Spanish I believe they translate directly from English. I think they felt like the “believe it” thing was kinda awkward, so they translated it to a slang mostly said in Mexico that sometimes people say at the end of sentences to drive a point home: “de veras”, which is short for “de verdad”, meaning “for real”. It can also mean “I’m telling you”, “I mean it”, or “believe it/me” depending on the context. I remember at first Naruto spammed the de veras, making it kinda awkward, but eventually the dub eased into it and started to feel very natural, and that’s because people talk like that irl! They didn’t get completely rid of those words, but they were sprinkled in enough for the audience to understand that this was Naruto’s tic. Funnily enough, lots of people in Mexico also have their own slang tics, it’s so common that we even have a slang word for that haha. So, the LatAm dub is not that far from reality! In the end it came full circle due to the versatility of the slang and I love it, de veras!
What a Great Video! I'm Brazillian, and in our dub version we "translate" dattrbayo to "tô certo" what means: "I am Right!" but in a contract and informal way (the formal way to say that is "eu estou certo". ) I'm honestly prefer our dattebayo than yours lol. Love from Brazil!
GOOD TO KNOW THIS ONE. I actually really liked when Boruto said DatteBasa and it's what made me figure out Kushina had one as well. To me It's a shame this couldn't be translated better.
So is this similar to when Dedara always does his "Hmmph" because i always see its translated differently in English when he adds this to the end of his sentences in sub. Like sometimes he uses it to agree with himself, sometimes he uses it to question something, and other times he says it out of shock. Is this maybe the same idea behind dattebayo but Dedara's unique little thing he does or have I misunderstood and overthinking? Cause i always was wondering how is was translated to so many different things. Also amazing video btw lmao really got me thinking
In the italian version of the manga It wasn't translated... And not even in the dub sjsjsjsjsjs and I agree that it's not the worst thing. Translations are hard
