  • Today we take another crack at our supercharged 440cc Duromax project. On the last episode we tried doing this with the factory propane carb and failed. Today we remove the governer, install some 50lbs valve springs, and put on a 34mm Mikuni carb from go power sports. We ended up making 15lbs of boost so its time to fully tune out this engine. Stay tuned for the install of this engine on a go kart!!!

      I got massive power gain, without going crazy, on my 200 cc clone “stock block,crank,cam no governor of coarse
      I port &polished head . Note:
      match your intake (inside dimension) to the size of your intake “Valve “ for max flow !
      A 400cc you may have to buy two carbs but my 212 uses
      22lb springs w 1.3 ratio rockers stock push rods work fine for this build !
      VM 22 carb on max setting ( turned wide open )
      And headers
      I know I’ve doubled my power easily!
      I think you will be satisfied w the increased power

      this category of cc's are more common in my island philippines on small boat racing.they cant afford boost like supercharge and turbo charge.but they can manage to pull out 120kph on a 7hp single cylinder engine.imagine if they can afford this kind of stuff.
      i am gonna try my best for them to watch this video

    about this engine that using supercharger
    my advice, Static Compressio Ratio, down to 7:1
    boost to 0.8 BAR
    make sure to recalibrate ring piston gap compression 1 and 2 for below 1 bar
    and make sure, camshaft duration are not to wide, cause turbo / supercharger hate really wide camshaft duration and high overlap profile
    hope it's help

    I've thought of something similar. Making a top plate with 5/8" pillow blocks on top of it. (Essentially a jackshaft with v-pulleys) And fab a bracket for the supercharger to get it closer to the intake port. I wonder if a Tilly carb would work or maybe a Dellorto or a single Webber

  • @earnestmatlock9694
    @earnestmatlock9694 ปีที่แล้ว

    Many years ago I had a vw, and it used a direct downdraft carb. Single butterfly throttle and usually an electric choke. That may work but the carb is vertical position only. That would boost CFM quite a bit as the be is a weak 4 cylinder engine. You would have to play with it to get it to work. You may have to use the throttle linkage to control boost levels too.

    You can change the valve springs without removing the head as it’s done loads of times on cars, piston to BDC and connect your shop air supply into your plug socket, trapped air pressure in the cylinder keeps the valves shut

    On my naturally aspirated Honda gx240, yep 240,lol. I shaved the head to gain compression (a lot),& added some 26lb ducar valve springs to the new factory gx390 valve springs and well ported cylinder head then job welded the back side of the intake valve area to get rid of that void that’s there. Using a pz27 carburetor and chinesium adapter 😂 with an exhaust pipe that matches the 28mm exhaust port. Wow, I have a screamer, the only thing is I need a set of ratio rockers to go with the improved (better lift) gx390 camshaft. It runs great too

    I see your bridgeport there. Should grab a lathe. Could have pulleys and fasteners in a few hours instead of days. If you wanted to you could 3d print various sized pulleys in NYLON and experiment rather cheap with ratios for ideal boost curve. You could do quite a bit adding those tools to the arsenal. Subscribed!

      Alternatively you could bleed boost off by gating the intake like you would exhaust for a turbo. Works in a pinch. Not ideal imo.

    It needs a bypass, even a 1/2" ball valve will work to to bring the output to the input of the supercharger toto reduce boost at idle , then close when the throttle is opened, possibly open again to regulate boost slightly, maybe 1/2" tubing and call val it doesn't have to be open all the way, maybe 1/4- 1/2 way open at idle, then close as the throttle opens, and possibly open at full throttle to regulate boost or while cruising not needing full power! A small carburator throttle valve would work great for this, maybe a weed eater carb with a hose barb fitting nade to fit and seal both sides. Only
    Using the valve. And sealing the fuel lines. Then a Arduino and servo can with throttle pedal sensors to regulate the bypass, with no throttle while going fast down a hill it will be better to have the bypass fully open! It will make it much easier to drive!
    Imagine a supercharger from a 3800 Pontiac or Buick on a v-twin, (*they have bypass valves also*) it would require a gear reduction to keeping the heads on the engine, it would probably make all the boost at idle, then throttle and boom, it would be about 3000 cc too large but a 4:1-5:1 reduction should work , but one of these would be plenty for a v-twin!
    Imagine one on a micro truck ppl are importing, slightly modify the engine, polish the chamber and pistons, port the heads, add a supercharger, maybe two,(three running 2 into 1 to make a compound setup, but a turbo and supercharger would be cheaper, with the supercharger working near idle, the turbo afterwards, make 25 psi, easily doubling the HP, a micro truck making 50-100 hp😮

    Beetle carbs are downdrafts and come in 3 sizes. 30, 32, and 34mm for the 1200, 1500, and 1600 engines that put out 40, 53, and 60HP respectively. Add PICT after the size you want and happy hunting....

  • @jameswade2002

    Awesome setup once it gets built, and I'm so excited! 15psi is definitely the danger zone. One question I'm wondering about is how a 300cc supercharger manages to double atmospheric pressure (14.7 nominal + 15psi = 29.7psi actual) with a 1:1 ratio on a 440cc engine. I'm thinking that you have to already be underdriven somewhat. I'm all about that party pulley life so I say build the snot out of it and be sure to super size that ring gap and add head studs and a copper gasket to the usual billet parts and run it on 110 gas with a bunch of extra timing and a cold plug. What about a giant Tillotson carb? Put it on a mini drag bike!

    go to an auto parts store and look for a carb for a 1984 jeep cherokee with a 2.5L inline 4, it might be a /tad/ too big, but you can make that crappy solex carb work with anything, its a butterfly style carb with an electric choke (easily convertable to cable choke with a little work) but should provide plenty of flow into the supercharger, and plenty of fuel for the engine, it is a Down Draft Carb however, if you are looking for a side draft, Webber Redline, or a holly BugSpray might work for the application with some modification

    Update I have a predator hemi max performance 459 cc and I bought the exact same AMR 300 ter supercharger my plan is to run somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 to 8 pounds of boost And let me correct myself by saying you need a Recycling bypass valve or at least that’s what I’m going to use you can put a blow off valve but that’s if you’re running higher boost levels mainly also I’m going to add an inner cooler probably copy you and go with the 50 pounds springs port and polish the head head into a stack kind of like Semi exhaust with flappers got to keep that rainwater out and since nobody makes any performance parts for the most part for these engines as far as billet I’m going to a machinist and going To bring him a chunk of billet for a connecting rod piston and a flywheel definitely going to have the caps made with a lot more meat but as far as a carburetor I was thinking something like a small single barrel and modify it Into a blow through carburetor with all the fixings Wideband O2 sensor boost gauge Boost referenced fuel pressure regulator fuel pump and as far as connecting it to the carburetor I’m going to fabricate a box shaped hat(Basically to simulate pressurized atmosphere) Also it’s pretty important where you put your Bypass valve I would just let it dump out into the atmosphere but figured I’d give it a little more to take stress off the supercharger I’m pretty sure with as low of boost I’m going with the stock timing should do just fine maybe throw a different spark plug along with some ARP head bolts and ARP studs for the manifold and exhaust my ultimate plans for the engine is to utilize a four speed manual transmission out of a Chevy Luv as well as the driveline and rear end get a narrow rear end and shorten the driveshaft then I have a craftsman lawnmower I’m going to rob parts off of build a cab trying to be as weight conscious as possible but I have a craftsman trailer as well I was going to use as a truck bed that’s where I’m shooting for anyway still got some kinks to work out and I realize that it’s going to be quite a long road ahead of me but I definitely think I can pull it off then as a sidenote I have a 79 Chevy Luv I’m swapping in a small block 350 with four bolt going to get some aluminum heads a good intake cam board it out possibly turbo I’d like to be in the 400-550hp range a turbo 350 transmission put a little 10 Bolt out of a S-10 but ultimately I have a 14 bolt that I’m going to narrow and use convert the rear suspension from leafspring to a 4 link suspension and ditch the front torsion bars for some coil over springs in the front should be a nice little sleeper and make a dual exhaust with a cut off valve throw a couple mufflers so that way I can trick people into thinking all I have is maybe a V6 at best open up the cutoff and blow their doors off God bless and have a good day man

    Wouldn’t having a fan blow on the engine to simulate air flow while driving assist in getting a better reading?

    Hey you need a boost relief valve. It looks like your boost spices were when you closed the throttle and the boost has no where to go. Not at wide open throttle. This is normal for boosted engines. Lol and water systems. If you close a water valve at the long end of a water line from full flow to closed to quickly it can knock the valve off by the surge of water. I think that's what you are seeing here. So try that before swapping pulleys. Easy to test to. Put on your dyno and run it at rpm without closing the throttle and see what boost is recorded thru the rpm range

    If you mount supercharger really close to engine will get rid of alot of lag great video currently taking 94 Honda 750 magna v4 going street ripper with CBR suspension and about to try BOOST myself lol

    • @prodzektownia
      @prodzektownia ปีที่แล้ว

      what the fuck are You talking about, what lag? on a supercharger? the closer the supercharger is to intake port in one cylinder engine the worst is the power output, one cylinder engine need plenum 4x size of the engine, so if it is 440cc it need plenum ~2000cc so the boost can build up

  • @TheBigred1781

    Maybe it needs a relief valve being a positive displacement blower?

    The motor will not make any high rpm power because of the intake runner length. The engine will run out of steam pretty quick. If you make that intake runner shorter by moving the supercharger closer the whole combination will benefit greatly. Good luck with the build.

    • @brokejoebuilds5165
      @brokejoebuilds5165 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bradensmith888 regardless of cylinder count, the simplest explanation..... the distance from the intake valve to the throttle opening determines the rpm range in which a engine will run. The further away the throttle opening the lower the rpm the intake would be tuned for. The shorter the runner the higher the rpms. Hence when I.R. manifolds are made the length of the runner needs to be considered to make sure the engine will make the power at the desired rpm. By switching from blowthrough to drawthrough the way they did they effectively went from a short runner to a super long runner. Remember the throotle opening is a metered vacuum leak and the runner begins and ends (for the most part) at the throotle blade.. there is a effect after that but that would be negated by boost in this application.

    The IR temperature gun does not work on shiny surfaces like the intake pipe, put a piece of black tape or something on the surface you meassure.
    It also is not accurate at measuring the exhaust temp from 1 meter away, the measuring area is mostly shown on the gun, the exhaust can be 700 F and the air around it 100 F, the gun will average those temperatures and show the 400 F.

    The carb on my Yamaha Warrior, has a flat slide,
    and downstream from that, a butterfly. Don't ask
    me why. Got the quad from my old boss, needed
    a battery, carb, fuel petcock, and a front brake master.
    Quad cost me $200.
    Have no idea why the carb has both the flat slide,
    AND a butterfly. No, the butterfly is not the choke.
    It's on the other side of the slide. Doesn't have a
    "choke." Has an enrichment circuit instead.
    (Replacement was $40, on the Jungle site.)

    Hi Red Beard, I was thinking..at about 7:45 or so, you were explaining how you needed to disassemble the head to get to those valve spring keepers, and I was wondering if you could use the same technique used for other engines, by threading an insert into the spark plug hole and presurising the cylinder, which holds the valve against its seat while you push down on the spring (you might have to fab a small tool that bolts to the rocker stand to use as a lever, maybe with a forked end) which allows you to remove the keepers from the stem.?

    • @Shadowvortx
      @Shadowvortx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another method I've seen used on engines where removing the head is excess labor such as SOHC, is stuffing rope in though the spark plug hole.
