Although replacement steel cables are readily available I would strongly suggest considering a synthetic cable. They won’t cut your hands they won’t snag and I believe they’re much more durable and long lasting plus you could have an interchangeable clevis hook at the end.

Absolutely the best comparison of the two models explained ever Dr. Joe! 👍I was pondering on the idea of converting my manual lift snowplow lever on my Craftsman YT-3000 tractor to a winch or linear actuator for years now but didn't see anyone else perform a simple installation on TH-cam or anywhere else for that matter, so when I saw the 2500 ZXR go on sale on Black Friday deals for $79.99 I thought what the hell do or die I'm either going to do it this year, or take it back for a refund. I wasn't in a big hurry to get it done in one day especially with no snow in the forecast so It took me several hours over several days working with it. It would have been a lot easier if my tractor had a front mounted battery but with my battery being mounted in the rear of the tractor under the seat it took every inch of the wiring harness starting from that end to mount the circuit breaker and the controller close enough to reach the front mounted winch which I bolted onto the plow downward sloped frame mounting bracket without using a winch mounting bracket for ease of installation. I wanted to use the wired controller too so I removed the switch from the hand held mount and wired it back behind the steering column area located in a perfectly cut out rectangular area for no forward reaching, comfort, and to achieve that built in look, the best part of it is it works perfect and will keep me from having to reach outside of my mounted winter cab all the time to operate the plow while letting the cold air or wind rip through the opening, and I didn't change anything permanently that couldn't be changed back easily using all my saved original parts, or used to reinstalled everything on another tractor.

Just bought one of these to haul my 16' canoe to the top (and over) my contractor's rack on my 1996 B2500 V10 Dodge. Works like a champ... super pleased with it and with the portable mount I made usisng a piece of plywood and 2 U-bolts, I can use it on the sides, front, or back of the rack in case I need it for whatever. (I cary a spare 12V deep-cycle battery in the bed box which is hooked up to a small controller and solar panel on top of the rack)
@@JosephHunstad Turns out I blew my horn too soon! With my "portable mount", too much plywood was in front of the fairlead rollers so it prevented the wire from spooling correctly. (This during the cable preliminary setup retreiving my 84 VW Rabbit up a 10 degree incline. See Instruction Manual, page 8 at bottom.) Instead, the wire jumped the spool on the outer end and jammed between the cage and spool rim. What a mess. Had to take the winch apart to free the cable up. My bad! In the process, saw there was no grease on the gearing so applied some... hmm, might affect it in the cold weather but I don't intend to use it in the winter.
Thank you for your question. Neither of these winches have an auto stop. My experience with winches is that auto stops occur usually with synthetic wound higher end winches. take care - Joe

Yes this video was a comparison of the features more than the function but they function in a very similar fashion they both have a strong pull and a gradual release. They also have a free spooling action which is very helpful.

Yes both inches will actively pull in and release out under power
