Looks like you have a late model gm truck with gas engine. Assuming you dont have two alternators, does the truck computer complain when you hit it with the 400+ ampdraw, 2-3 times more than what your alternator will make??
I did not add a fuse, I would recommend it as you should have. Fuse on every circuit buy I didn't. The ground was just a screw into my frame. Makes for a nice short wire
@@limpnoodlelifestyle5552 did you upgrade the body ground? i have seem many vehicle burn the grounds right off the engine because people did things like you did.
@@chevy0771 Ok cool good to hear, I will post up a install video one of these weeks if it ever warms up enough so i can mount tge winch and run the wiring. They look like great winches and have a bunch of positive reviews. Matts Offroad Recovery YT channel uses them on his heavy wrecker also.
@@Temptation_Offroad I was just about to say that Matt’s off road recovery uses that exact winch also and he stands behind it as well his whole teams uses it
My Ramsey REP8000 but the dust. A magnet in the motor came apart. I'm going to get this winch and bracket. My Ram 2500 has front and back receivers with Anderson plugs for the winch. In going to install dual marine gel batteries in the tool box, rewire the cables. That way I have more power and the winch won't drain the main battery.
I'm pretty sure he said he used #2 (2 gauge) not #10. #10 sounds way too small to me. (10+ year electrician here) Definitely want that wire rated for the max amperage of the winch x 1.25 (80% deration factor)- x 1.56 would be even better.. Also want a fuse on that wire for what the wire is rated at, or LESS (so the fuse blows before the wire overheats).
Did you use the same power and ground cables that came with the winch to wire it into there red Anderson connector? I am doing the same thing soon but didn’t know what kind of plugs I needed to buy. Do you have links to the Anderson plugs you use? Or at least know the brand or amp rating on them? Was the power and ground cable a little small for those prongs on the Anderson connector?
@@limpnoodlelifestyle5552 thanks for the quick reply. So you used the original power and ground cables to attach to the Anderson plug? If so was the fit loose in the silver part where you push the strands in? And is there a better way I can talk to you? Maybe Instagram or phone? Would like to see some more picture or info on how you did this! Thanks
Maybe I can make another video to explain in more detail what I did. I was thinking about doing one reviewing the winch anyway. It's seen a ton of use this winter and saved me boatloads of money
@@limpnoodlelifestyle5552 sounds good. So in the end did you use the same power and ground cable that came with the winch? And when do you think you could upload an update video? Would like to get everything order as soon as possible. Thanks!
I purchased a longer power cable, I used the original ground cable and I ran them to the original posts on the winch. No changes just a longer wire on the positive side
Where do you keep this winch when not using it? I have the same truck and trying to figure that out. Because I tow alot lol. And yes a video of the wiring install would be cool.
For the first 2 months I kept it in the back of the cab. Just because it's cold out and when you need it you really need it to work lol I didn't wanna risk it being cold and not wanting to operate. But ever since then I just keep it in the bed
I just let it sit, but I have a bed cover and I'm in my truck alot so..a bit circumstantial. I did think about making a mount for it on inside of the bedside. Something that you put a key in and it releases but I didn't want to drill holes in the bed
Didn’t you get a disconnect in the box with the winch? I’ve got one but it was LIGHT on the instructions and I haven’t seen anyone use one yet for how to secure it near the battery. I know others have mentioned it, but it’s a good idea to run a dedicated ground to something pulling that much current. Thanks for the video!
@@jmalinowski1000 What do you mean by that? It would seem to me that the frame is a hell of a lot thicker "wire" than regular wire. I have mine set up for my front winch and was thinking about doing what he did for the back, including grounding to the frame.
@@stevezinsenheim3524The frame/ body are both grounded through wires that connect to the battery ground. Those won’t be large enough to handle the load of a winch unless you upgrade them first.
As much as it will hold brother LOL. I've pulled a new holland l175 skidloader sideways with this setup. So it will handle quite a bit. I would think that the weak link would be the hitch pin. And if that breaks its no big deal. However I have had no issues up till now.
Really did not need the music. Also, camera angles show nothing. Trying to mount the bolts into the bottom of the winch through the square nut slot is ridiculous. Basically, I didn’t get anything from the video but thanks for trying.

Love it. Can be used front or rear
I would think it is easier to install the winch plat to the bottom of the winch first than to lift it over the side arms?
Im going to do this. No fuse for the wire though?
Thanks mate, I am gonna follow step to step, but wondering if I can power it with my second battery (Lithium 200Amp) in the Ute tub?
So how does it work is that support system enough ? Have you winched anything yet of substantial weight?
Proceeds to put the bolts in the qrong way haha 😂. Great video tho!
Would you have links to the winch and to the carrier as well
