The V1 battery is very good and after two years has shown no sign of degradation. If and when it does wear out I hopefully can replace it with a better one. It's good news.
The BYD I just bought today has an 8 year battery warranty, and I could have bought 3 of these on my credit card here in Thailand man. If I get the 8 I will consider it worth the upgrade down the road when the tech will be cheaper

I am going to buy a Shark to replace an old Pathfinder we use to tow a 1.6 tonne caravan. The battery does not make much difference to me as the long/infrequent trips with van will be all on petrol, the rest of the time will be short trips all on battery, and charged at home mostly from solar ...but more battery capacity would be useful to store extra surplus solar
Brazil gets the Shark, and by extension, the EU, in December, yes, December in 5 days, not sure about Australia. BYD has a vehicle manufacturing plant in Brazil ready to go now. Look into COP 29 that just conclude there. For more info. 🙂

It is a bit of a double edged sword. It is most likely that BYD will not be able to scale the new Blade battery production so quickly that they can outfit their entry level vehicles soon. And the longer that they can extend the production of their current Blade batteries the better than they can leverage prior R&D investment. It will likely cost more for BYD to produce the new Blade batteries, and even though they can pass that higher cost off to higher end buyers with the promise of better performance efficiency and longevity, cost increases on entry models are harder to justify, especially with so much good competition. Importantly, the moment that BYD provides a real-world timeline for their new Blade batteries in their cheaper models is the moment where their sales of their current EVs using the old batteries dies, and the value of used BYDs will tank as well. So I believe that BYD will keep a lid on their timeline for updates, and let the media use unsubstantiated rumors for as long as possible.
One more instance of the Chinese leading the way on battery technology. I wonder as these more traditional chemistries get better, with more density if there will come a time when they will fulfill the promise of solid-state batteries.

BYD is gunning for Toyota, they said it before. They have class leading plug in hybrid system. In Europe Chinese hybrids have no tarrifs and in local Chinese market phev growth is much higher than Pures. So Zeekr, Xpeng, Avatr, Lotus all announced they going hybrids too. Even Nios Firefly will go hybrid because of no European tarrifs. Chinese will make big money, margins in Europe Phev segment

They will allegedly start getting shipped now by years end but already by jan 2026 the tax break for PHEV will be drastically lowered compared to EVs, right? So they have 12 months to sell them in the EU and so far here in Sweden only BYD Seal U and MG3 has started sales and they are not really cheap? Seal U is 4% cheaper than Ford Kuga PHEV.

Battery tech are improving so fast, the best way to utilize this technology is to lease it, not to own it. Do the Nio battery swapping model. This way, amortization of the cost of the battery is done quickly. Once amortized, it can be recycled immediately.
I agree, EV motors are not. Unfortunately the EV Clinik in Zagreb, Romania to wich a lot of europeans go to if they have problems, has sent out a report. This report claims, the 3 most commin problemns are 1. the electric motor. 2nd the on board charger and 3. the Dc-Dc converter. Sad, but true.

It could still take two years or more for the new battery to trickle down into all there cars , so that’s a huge dilemma for you , if you were planning to buy next year

Sam mentioned that he thought that BYD are working an uprated Dolphin, so it would seem reasonable that it would have the new battery. I think that I need to be flexible and see what happens next year, the car has only done 55,000 miles so it should be good for another year or two.
EV battery companies should start merging and making better use of their R&D resources. The clear breathroughs have distinguised themselves and they should all focus mostly on going to market and lowering manufacturing costs.
Given the range of Sealion 7, I would say no it won't have the blade V2 or new architecture. Also it is not one of their premium brands like Yangwang or Denza. If Seal, Dolphin, Atto3 etc do get V2 it won't be for a couple of years.
They have advised the Sealion 7 in Europe is the current Blade v1, and the new e-platform 3.0, which has the cell-to-body design and 800v. Other markets without the 91kwh battery option are running a cheaper, older Sealion 7 running the older 400v platform. Nothing BYD makes is yet on the new battery (because it's not out yet).
A car is more than a great battery. As long the car beeps and sounds every few seconds (as the Chinese brands like to do here in Europe) - forget them. Undriveable!

I think this is the great dilemma. I’m really keen on a leopard but pretty sure it won’t be $58k. If BYD bring the new tech in and undercut the old then yes that would be a disaster but also doesn’t bode well for them.
I like your point of view on this. I would enjoy the shark either way and I'm very excited to see this tech progress, especially since I'm building to live off grid. Just don't want to regret buying this early if the new model is leaps and bounds ahead. But you're right, I'll definitely enjoy it either way.
I wonder why you're saying that the BYD batteries are not as good as their rivals and then in the next breath, say that the batteries will easily outlast the life of the car. As well as better mileage and charging. What more should we expect from a battery at this stage?
Blade battery is more robust. Stackable, interchangeable, reliable like lego pieces. You will be able to upgrade to v2 later on. No one can beat chinese in ev. This japanese brands still struggling with early stage of solid state
What is needed is the V1 Blade battery production on Steroids so BYD and other manufacturers can churn out Cheap reliable EV's needed across many markets. Their V2 can be for new BYD specific models and if possible a future replacement for V1 owners.
So next year all the current BYDs are obsolete and old tech. Three years later another new battery comes along and its the same story. The future might be electric, but its seems it will also be disposable.
The problem with EV is that the technology is moving so fast you fear buying something that in one year will be behind the new generation, this will effect your resale value. If the EV makers made new batteries available for exchange with their older models people would be more confident when considering when to buy an EV. I'm sitting on the fence as I don't have the confidence to jump in at the moment.
I bought an ATTO3 one year ago. It serves my purpose quite well. So far so good. Even if the ev technology advances year after year, it is ok to me. My vehicle has helped to keep the surrounding air unpolluted wherever i go. If a few years down the road i can change the battery to a much more efficient one (an option to consider), it is icing on the cake. Meanwhile, life goes on. I don't pollute the air, nor warm up the surroundings, nor produce noise wherever i drive to.
BYD cars with byd battery gen1 are looking old tech as xpeng etc arrive in Au/NZ. Not that I would buy one until I see their anti-rust treatment is up to spec.
If China really wants to sell cars to Western companies, they need to seriously address security concerns. Rumors about collecting information on their customers and having any sort of 'kill switch' in times of conflict seriously damages their reputation. They need to counter such rumors with more than just 'trust us'.
Its average, but if it last longer than the previous gen and can do 5c charging then yes its has a massive edge on other batteries. I would be interested to know if they can trade away some battery life and get pack more energy density in say 240 watt hour/kg. And use it in their performance and SUVs that would make a huge difference.

There is something they may not telling you and that is the charging Algorithm is "theorectcally" optimised for the "possibility" of longer cycle life . . . . .but they are going to "allow" the customer to "overide the Algorithm". . . . for convenient use. I run an all electric landscaping business and found in the fine print of this years and not last years Safty data sheets on my batteries have now a minus 20% difference in allowable peak battery charging/discharging !! but they are offering a "premium" blade/battery with slightly higher power and they say and i quote " twice the number of possible charging cycles compared to previous ***** batteries. . . . Buttttt when you buy one it red lines just from sitting in the car driving home from the dealership!! BEWARE!!

100%. Im giving back my model 3 LR (560€ per month 25k km per year) for a plug-in hybrid full option tiguan (650€/month woth 30k km per year) on a 3 year lease. Because I'm done with the 300km ish battery range on highway in winter. Im waiting 2028 in order to BUY an electric car and run it to 200k km and not care about resale value. I believe by 2028 I could get 600 real km. Charging in 10 minutes and 30% cheaper than now. It feels like it's never a good time really.
Blade batteries, Solid State batteries, Lithium-ion batteries, Shewanella Oneidensis batteries may all work well, but the electric vehicle still cannot out perform an ICE vehicle or a Hybrid vehicle.

Yep, blade configured battery cells are the way to go. They simplify pack construction, lowering the cost as well as enhance the battery physics.

Why is the blade battery not flat or is that for display only
umm so this potentially means the sealion 7 isn't on the new architecture nor new battery?
Given the range of Sealion 7, I would say no it won't have the blade V2 or new architecture. Also it is not one of their premium brands like Yangwang or Denza. If Seal, Dolphin, Atto3 etc do get V2 it won't be for a couple of years.

They have advised the Sealion 7 in Europe is the current Blade v1, and the new e-platform 3.0, which has the cell-to-body design and 800v. Other markets without the 91kwh battery option are running a cheaper, older Sealion 7 running the older 400v platform.
Nothing BYD makes is yet on the new battery (because it's not out yet).
A car is more than a great battery. As long the car beeps and sounds every few seconds (as the Chinese brands like to do here in Europe) - forget them. Undriveable!
I've ordered a shark but if I cancelled what do you think in your opinion the price would be with the new tech in 2 years? Surely not the 58k I'm paying in Australia.
I think this is the great dilemma. I’m really keen on a leopard but pretty sure it won’t be $58k. Likewise the new vehicles in 18months with the latest battery, will they be priced to take market share like the shark is now? All crystal ball stuff but I think for my use and purpose the Shark will be just fine (hopefully) 😊
I hope so. Just not keen to buy now and in 12 months they release the new version with 2.0L and more range thus more resale and power etc. Plus the price will be way higher.

@@GTRSniper1 I’m leaning towards enjoying the car I have rather than resale value. In the current climate and the way tech is moving there’s always going to be something better, quicker. If BYD bring the new tech in and undercut the old then yes that would be a disaster but also doesn’t bode well for them.
I like your point of view on this. I would enjoy the shark either way and I'm very excited to see this tech progress, especially since I'm building to live off grid. Just don't want to regret buying this early if the new model is leaps and bounds ahead.

Blade battery is more robust. Stackable, interchangeable, reliable like lego pieces. You will be able to upgrade to v2 later on. No one can beat chinese in ev. This japanese brands still struggling with early stage of solid state

What is needed is the V1 Blade battery production on Steroids so BYD and other manufacturers can churn out Cheap reliable EV's needed across many markets. Their V2 can be for new BYD specific models and if possible a future replacement for V1 owners.
So next year all the current BYDs are obsolete and old tech. Three years later another new battery comes along and its the same story. The future might be electric, but its seems it will also be disposable.
The problem with EV is that the technology is moving so fast you fear buying something that in one year will be behind the new generation, this will effect your resale value. If the EV makers made new batteries available for exchange with their older models people would be more confident when considering when to buy an EV. I'm sitting on the fence as I don't have the confidence to jump in at the moment.
I bought an ATTO3 one year ago. It serves my purpose quite well. So far so good.
Even if the ev technology advances year after year, it is ok to me. My vehicle has helped to keep the surrounding air unpolluted wherever i go.
If a few years down the road i can change the battery to a much more efficient one (an option to consider), it is icing on the cake.
Meanwhile, life goes on.
I don't pollute the air, nor warm up the surroundings, nor produce noise wherever i drive to.

BYD cars with byd battery gen1 are looking old tech as xpeng etc arrive in Au/NZ. Not that I would buy one until I see their anti-rust treatment is up to spec.

If China really wants to sell cars to Western companies, they need to seriously address security concerns. Rumors about collecting information on their customers and having any sort of 'kill switch' in times of conflict seriously damages their reputation. They need to counter such rumors with more than just 'trust us'.
Reducing the weight is the biggest gain, byd batteries are big time heavy...

Its average, but if it last longer than the previous gen and can do 5c charging then yes its has a massive edge on other batteries. I would be interested to know if they can trade away some battery life and get pack more energy density in say 240 watt hour/kg. And use it in their performance and SUVs that would make a huge difference.

There is something they may not telling you and that is the charging Algorithm is "theorectcally" optimised for the "possibility" of longer cycle life . . . . .but they are going to "allow" the customer to "overide the Algorithm". . . . for convenient use. I run an all electric landscaping business and found in the fine print of this years and not last years Safty data sheets on my batteries have now a minus 20% difference in allowable peak battery charging/discharging !! but they are offering a "premium" blade/battery with slightly higher power and they say and i quote " twice the number of possible charging cycles compared to previous ***** batteries. . . . Buttttt when you buy one it red lines just from sitting in the car driving home from the dealership!! BEWARE!!

Do you not understand what a 'multiple' of 5.5C means? It means 5.5C, 11C, 16.5C and so on. It doesn't mean randomly suggesting charging rates.

It’s like the darn PC business. These battery announcements and implementations make me not want to buy an EV. Why? Because as soon as the next battery comes out the EV you bought a year ago is worth 50% or less on the used market. The only way to acquire an EV is via lease, otherwise you get taken to the cleaners. Treat EV’s as throw always.

Im giving back my model 3 LR (560€ per month 25k km per year) for a plug-in hybrid full option tiguan (650€/month woth 30k km per year) on a 3 year lease.
Because I'm done with the 300km ish battery range on highway in winter.
Im waiting 2028 in order to BUY an electric car and run it to 200k km and not care about resale value.
I believe by 2028 I could get 600 real km. Charging in 10 minutes and 30% cheaper than now.

Blade batteries, Solid State batteries, Lithium-ion batteries, Shewanella Oneidensis batteries may all work well, but the electric vehicle still cannot out perform an ICE vehicle or a Hybrid vehicle.
