I am having issues where my file is saved onto my desktop, but I am unable to transfer my project onto a flash drive. It says "This item can't be copied because there isn't enough free space."
VidProMom So saving to high mode or custom saves as MP4, and prores as .mov? MP4 reduced the origInal file size by 2/3; whereas, prores increased it by 2-3x. I was rotating video from sideways to vertical normal viewing mode. Why can't I get basically the original file size reproduced when rotating, saving and exporting with iMovie? Thanks!
I have been using iMovie for quite a while, however, I am someone who likes to take a quick review before I do something I don't want to waste time or material (discs) on. This video gave me the information (specs.) that I was looking for. Glad I found this resource. Thank you VidProMom for your time and expertise.
Meredith, Meredith, dearest Meredith. Thank you so much. GREAT stuff. As a new MacBook user, I am so ashamed of still being seemingly unable to ditch my windows default mentality so for me this is a struggle, and you just held my hand and gave me a leg-up. Consider me subscribed. It is really refreshing to see a video on TH-cam that just got straight down to business, which means you are now my best friend, whether you like it or not. Thank you and best wishes from an English guy in a french forest. 🏆🎯
I'm tired of using Windows Movie Maker and decided to give iMovie a try. It's been really difficult to learn and find where things are; this video really helped, thank you!
Thanks darling. I am transitioning from PC to Mac and find myself looking for so much basic info. Your video helped me. Have a lovely rest of the week. ☀️🌸🌺🌷
I could hug you right now! I have spent two hours trying to figure out why my video was downloading as an .mov and not .mp4, then you happened, and you saved me lol. I seriously searched through imovie support, apple, and google...nothing! Thank you so much for your description of best vs. high!
I just started using iMovie I had a Windows laptop before where I would edit on Premiere Pro but Mac computers would need a graphic ram for the application to work. So I figured why not give iMovie a try and you were totally helpful, thanks a bunch!!
Thank you. You clearly explained the saving options. We are making a relative's wedding video and want highest possible quality, but part of the footage was filmed using an iPhone and the rest filmed using a high def camcorder. On a different web site, I learned if you have part iPhone (lower quality video) and part camcorder high def video combined into one movie, whatever you put first is the highest resolution option you are offered, so trick it by putting a high resolution photo first, then choose the high def option to save it to file, and then remove the photo and save it again. I haven't tried this yet, but it sounded good for something as important as a wedding where using extra memory is preferred.
I am a video teacher from the "old school" and found your video to be VERY helpful. I love how you "explain it to me like I'm a 4 tear old" (Denzel Washington) Thanks so much
Just bloody WOW! Ive been searching YouPipe for exactly what you've just explained to me in simple effective detail. Thank you so much for this and I can now start examining your other videos. Thanks again x
Meredith!! thank you. I went thru so many TH-cam "iMovie how to's" that were of no help, but yours are clear, concise, and to the point. thank you thank you thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm use to editing in windows movie maker and I have been struggling trying to figure out how to export my videos since switching to iMovie. I must've watched at least 6 videos that didn't help me much. This is was so simple and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
OMG!!!! Thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm a NEW iMovie fan after struggling for the past 3 days trying to get a PowerPoint presentation to work. Exporting and keeping fingers and toes crossed that the Windows person on the other end will be able to view it and show it at an awards dinner tomorrow night.
well done Meredith , a great video and how well you transfer information , a real teacher , calm , clear and very concise too . Keep them coming , they will help anyone with issues such as these . Love the snow video too .
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH. I WAS HAVING SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH TROUBLE UPOADING MY FIRST VID UNTIL I SAW YOUR TUTORIAL. I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! = D
U just solved the problem I've been facing for the past three years with the sentence you thought might not make anty difference to us ;))) thank you !
GREAT JOB. Telling me to hit file was the best thing to do. I looked at a few others and couldnt understand a word they said. Especially the kid on the skateboard with the accent ! lol. Thank you
This has been so helpful! I was in the middle of a project when the iMovie update was installed....and I was lost! I've battled with the editing, worked out what I needed to do but then what do I do? You've just solved it for me.and I'm so happy that I can now start another project at last.
Thanks for the Quick video! My pc crashed... long story short having to edit on my husband's apple! The editor is a million x easier but uploading videos to his computer and then trying to figure out saving it was difficult because it is so different for me...I had to look up videos just to transfer files from my android.. was about to go cray lol. Trying to do this while my daughter is sleeping so you saved me so much time, thanks!
You saved me from having a stroke, thank you! I spent hours on my first edited iMovie video and 50-odd sites, forums and videos could not tell me how to simply save and export a finished project to my computer. Also, thank you for the head's up on the quality adjustment in the file export! iMovie is not near as intuitive to use as it should be for the uninitiated. ;) Thanks again!
Oh my so useful , I’m a complete novice to editing , well apart from iPhone , so for me this was the simplified explanation of iMovie thankyou so much x
I felt I needed to take the time to let you know. This is one of the best videos I have seen on pretty much anything being that of a tutorial. It was the very thing I needed and you did so well in all the details. Thank you so much.
Hi Meredith, thank you so much for your tutorial, I had spent hours searching for something I could actually understand, your video was so easy to follow and you did a brilliant job of that, so happy I came across your channel. Thank you :)
Meredith, I have been doing this work for my swimmer's clinics, editing etc. your instructions were great to refresh simple moves. My only last question is when I filed a move and I am done, may I just delete all the takes used and take them out of the editor field?
Hi Pedro, yes you could delete them if you’re 100% sure you don’t want to make any more edits! Or you could leave it and start a new project for your next video.
Great video and very easy to follow! I did all that and ended up with a 3.14 Gb MP4 file that fit nicely on a DVD+R disc. But it won’t play in any of my DVD players. Could it be the +R format of the DVD causing the problems?
Nice video, but I was curious about getting the video off an iPhone to a laptop, ditto the iPad. Maybe I can find that in another video, but it would be a nice addition to this one. Thx
Exported to Pages on iPad, press every icon on the screen, couldn't change anything. Thanks anyway, I'm glad so many other people were able to achieve a file change. I will keep trying.
Thanks! Great tip on the High quality MP4 file vs. Best quality MOV file. I did not know that. Do you know what codecs are being used? This information is so hard to find. I'm on iMovie 10.1.7
Thank you so much for this video! I am making a slideshow for my 20 Kindergartners and my new laptop doesn't have the idvd I usually use to make my dvds! This helped me tremendously! Thank you for saving the day! :-)
Great tutorial! Thank you. Once I click file and try to open it, it says it is in compatible with quicktime. The original video was downloaded from zoom.
This was very helpful! When I exporting the File, however, only one little video clip of my movie actually downloads! Same with trying to email it. No transitions, no music, no other video clips...and the whole thing was fewer than 2 minutes long so that shouldn't be the problem. Is there a place where I need to say Save this as a whole Movie from within iMovie? It still looks good inside the program but I cannot send it to the gift recipient that way. Thank you!
Export settings often trip people up!!
VidProMom i don’t have that export setting on the top left corner what version are you on?
VidProMom o it is tblet
VidProMom idk I'm dum

This is definitely one of the most lucid and to-the-point videos I've seen on youtube. Bravo! and Thank you!

Very good and easy to follow. Will be looking at more of your videos.
Great tutorial - just what I was looking for! Thanks
You're so good at voiceover! You sound so conversational and natural 💙
This has been so helpful! I was in the middle of a project when the iMovie update was installed....and I was lost! I've battled with the editing, worked out what I needed to do but then what do I do? You've just solved it for me.and I'm so happy that I can now start another project at last.

10/10 first time using imovie and i was able to make a video for work and export it quickly! thank you!
Very clear! I really appreciate how simple and straightforward your instructions are. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!!!!! You are SO much better than the boys we watched!!!!
Haha - that's great to hear!! :D
This was the only video that actually helped thank u
the other videos i checked out about the same topic never told me about the high-MP4 and Best-MOV format thing. thank you for that! so relieved
You saved me from having a stroke, thank you!
I spent hours on my first edited iMovie video and 50-odd sites, forums and videos could not tell me how to simply save and export a finished project to my computer.

iMovie is not near as intuitive to use as it should be for the uninitiated. ;)
Thanks again!
Bahaha!!! I'm so glad this video was helpful! :)
We need people like you to help us navigate around iMovie which I find so non-intuitive!
I see the difference the snow color is much more white and everything looks more brighter in "high". Thanks for this
Oh my so useful , I’m a complete novice to editing , well apart from iPhone , so for me this was the simplified explanation of iMovie thankyou so much x
Thank you. Great video. Right to the point!
iMovie app on my iPhone is my life line right now. I love it!
just wanted to say this is super helpful video - and I am sharing it ALOT in my video community!
Thank You Meredith for your awesome tutorial!
Great tutorial! Quick and easy to understand. I hadn't edited anything in iMovie for a while so I just needed a refresher. Thanks!
Fantastic update. I wish Apple had put the extensions it would be converting your file to next to the quality ratings.
Thank you for sharing this, it was very easy to follow!
Thanks for the tips! Exporting a file first is so much easier and faster! & then I upload to TH-cam! :)
Very clear and helpful!
I felt I needed to take the time to let you know. This is one of the best videos I have seen on pretty much anything being that of a tutorial. It was the very thing I needed and you did so well in all the details. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much I haven't been on a Mac in ten years and I recently got one as a birthday gift and lets just say, you helped me out !

Great video, thanks for sharing.
Great video. Thanks for the help.
I literally love you for this. Macs are so damn difficult compared to the Windows that I’m used to but this helped so much. Thank you.
Meredith, I have been doing this work for my swimmer's clinics, editing etc. your instructions were great to refresh simple moves. My only last question is when I filed a move and I am done, may I just delete all the takes used and take them out of the editor field?

I had problems uploading to TH-cam from iMovie too and never understood why. Thank you for the clarification!
Great video and very easy to follow! I did all that and ended up with a 3.14 Gb MP4 file that fit nicely on a DVD+R disc. But it won’t play in any of my DVD players. Could it be the +R format of the DVD causing the problems?
Hmm I’m not sure to be honest! I’ve never created a dvd before.
Great video. iMovie is so non-intuitive - but you've really helped. Thank you.
Thank you. New to imovie and you saved my project....bless you
Really great tutorial, I would've liked to see you export the final file to youtube or facebook.
This was perfect! Just what I needed. 😊 Thanks
Nice video, but I was curious about getting the video off an iPhone to a laptop, ditto the iPad. Maybe I can find that in another video, but it would be a nice addition to this one. Thx

Thank you - my uploading problem solved. Simple and smart method you showed, - but not easy peasy to find out on my own!
Thank you so much for this video! I am making a slideshow for my 20 Kindergartners and my new laptop doesn't have the idvd I usually use to make my dvds! This helped me tremendously! Thank you for saving the day! :-)
Glad to hear it!

Wait! They’re coming out with new iMacs soon, I hear ☺️
@@meredithmarsh I’ve also heard that. I’ll stick with my old 27” 2009/2011 models for now. They work well.

Thank you Meredith. I exported directly to FB accidently. How do I stop that export? It's been 2 hours and is still 'preparing'.
so helpful! so happy I found you!!! love how you break things down!
This was very helpful! When I exporting the File, however, only one little video clip of my movie actually downloads! Same with trying to email it.
