I used iMovie for the first time two days ago and found it a bit overwhelming. Your tutorial answered every one of my questions, and having the visual example made everything so much more understandable. Many thanks.
Hi. Really helpful video. Just one thing to add. The maximum resolution is set by the FIRST video clip you upload. This caused me a world of pain initially as I had loads of 4K video and one low res clip that I imported first.
This is great! Thank you! Any chance you can show us how you do zoom in and zoom out effectively with iMovie? You do it super well on your channel videos. Thanks again for the content. Really helpful.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. The length, speed, details, and explanation were perfect! Very easy to follow and understand. I am now a subscriber.
We're glad you liked the tutorial! If it helps, we do have a CapCut and DaVinci Resolve course. For more details about the programs we offer, you can head on over to our website or visit the "About" page of our channel ☺️ - Vianca, PV Team
I agree, this is definitely one of the best videos on the topic! Tom did an amazing job explaining everything. Glad to hear you found it helpful too! - Hazel, PV Team
Thank you for creating this tutorial :) Especially useful for me was the explanation how to cut off and delete the whole footage preceding the point at which the marker was placed :) Thank you once again :)
Great video. One suggestion is in media there’s no name of clip. I found going to view an enabling video skimming (2/3)down the dropdown reveals the name of clip as you skim the in the media window. Cheers
Fantastic video, easy to follow. Really appreciate the step by step and added suggestion for PLACEIT. I am just now starting out with my mountain bike videos for "boomers" and my YT channel - I need to utilize animation to differentiate me from others in my hobby with added humor - so screen animation options help. Again - thanks.
ok great video but i really wish you had played it back to us so we could hear and see all the things you did. for instance did the voice from the a roll end up being a voice over on the b roll? as thats what i want to do is to have me talking and then show other clips but still hear me talking. I'd love to see how your movie ended up sounding.
Glad you found this helpful. We have several videos on our channel that you can watch to learn more, depending on your needs. Feel free to explore and watch! - Hazel, PV Team
Great video. But, I followed your instructions for making the video vertical and that was fine, but the titles I had added did not adjust. So the video is vertical and the scrolling titles are coming from the side not the bottom of the screen. Fix?
I found this helpful to a point. iMovie on my MacBook 2 doesn't have a modify button anywhere. I've looked for info of where this could be. Nothing has addressed the "modify button" simply not being there. I split a clip into three sections but now there's no way to merge that clip into one smooth clip. I read everywhere just click the modify button in the menu over the view window. The problem is that the button simply isn't there. What is the workaround when I can't just select the three clips and merge them?
I keep having thick black stripes on the sides of my video, no matter if i shoot vertically or horizontally. I followed some advice on trimming it while editing, but they still appear in the video that I put on my FB after I export it and the quality diminishes significantly. Any advice on that?
How do I find my files. When you opened "import', you clicked on a file called "data", but I don't have anything like that. And I can't find where my videos are stored. Can you help with this? Thank you.
I just want to make sure I understand the B-Roll part. You are not inserting video into one spot but overlaying video on top of the main video. So the 14 seconds of B-Roll video will replace 14 seconds of the main video. Am I understanding that correctly?
Can you help? I am trying to edit a movie I shot on dji 4 in 4K but it is playing back in super slow motion. I cannot find anywhere in settings to play back at normal speed. Can you help? I’m using an 8!year old Mac
Can you do a video for real beginners, cause this is too technical. it’s for people who already understand editing techniques and the language, etc . And you speak really fast) (I do love your accent ) 😮
OK, I am a beginner when it comes to iMovie, and most things Mac, so bear with me. Where are the command icons- or are there ANY?? And how do I "select" the section to trim out. When I put my cursor on the point in the video in the bottom screen and try to click and hold to move the bar to select from the beginning, it just moves the whole marker line -- I ended up clipping something completely elsewhere in the middle of the track somehow and now have a complete gap in the middle of the whole track. If this is truly for "beginners" I'm afraid I need a clearer description. Perhaps there is a BASIC video out there on IMovie.. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Trying to get some coaching videos uploaded. (ps. Totally NOT a begineer when it comes to computers, but my 20+ year experience is programming on midframes, networking PCs and customizing programs on Windows PCs.. ). So operating a mouse to select and cut and paste/move around is not unfamiliar to say the least. But I find what is "natural" to a MAC user does not translate from a Windows based environment.
NOTE that the default music in iMovie is NOT available for royalty-free use. If you use it in your TH-cam videos, they can be flagged for copyright violation.
Can anyone comment on iMovie's ability to do simple editing (essentially just appending videos and adding an audio track with basic fade in and out transitions) for 3-4 hour long 4k videos? It would be on a base Mac Mini with 16 gig RAM.
iMovie should handle basic editing like appending videos and adding audio with fade transitions quite well, even for long 4K videos. Just ensure your Mac Mini has enough storage space for smooth editing! - Hazel, PV Team
Hello, I am a new MacBook owner and when I went into iMovie I immediately received the error message, “You are combining audio and video clips outside the primary story" "You cannot add video ... I have no idea what the problem is…any advice?
Anyone. I’m making a music video. Does anyone know how to setup for text? Like if you have seen a music video before you will see the credits like the artist, song record label etc… if it’s complicated I may just create it on PowerPoint than move the project back to iMovie.

Thank you - this was helpful. Are we able to cut a clip in the middle and save that as a separate video for trailer or bloopers?
ok great video but i really wish you had played it back to us so we could hear and see all the things you did. for instance did the voice from the a roll end up being a voice over on the b roll? as thats what i want to do is to have me talking and then show other clips but still hear me talking. may i ask how to replace the footage from library? thanks!

If you clip off the first couple of words of someones speech, is there an "undo" button to try again?
IMovie is so user friendly. If only it had grain and noise removal for old films and video. You wouldn't need anything else.
How do I find my files. When you opened "import', you clicked on a file called "data", but I don't have anything like that. And I can't find where my videos are stored. Can you help with this? Thank you.

It doesn’t overwrite it, the original is still underneath, and both play together, but the bottom one is usually covered up.
Justin.
@@PrimalVideo Okay, I understand now. Thank you.
