2016’s Suicide Squad movie by David Ayer had a massive amount of hype surrounding it before release, but unfortunately once the movie came out-- critics and fans alike expressed their disappointment with the film. However, the film made a good amount of money and had a few breakout characters, so here we are for a sequel! Kind of.
The Suicide Squad definitely raises some questions. Like does anyone survive this thing? Why does Bloodsport have the same skills and motivation as Deadshot? Why don’t these people have tattoos on their foreheads? How did Rick Flag not hear all that commotion outside his tent? Is Harley Quinn in her own movie here? What are the odds of Bloodsport falling through a building unharmed into the exact spot he needed to?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to The Suicide Squad! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

The part you assume everybody likes Pete Davidson but actually this was the only movie, serie or SNL BS I actually like him or see.
I actually would say it was is best work and gun use his rat face very well.

"I understand the joke, sir, I just hate it." One of my new favorite quotes.
That’s fair

Why? That's a really funny joke.

“Did you just make me feel bad for a giant alien starfish with a single line?”
The most truthful line I swear
Starro had more than one line though but that is the most impactful line in the film to me.
-- it's been made clear that I misunderstood the "with a single line" sentiment. Apologies.
I wonder if anyone felt bad for starro when starro says the Thinker had been torturing them (and maybe if hearing starro's last line made them feel bad in retrospect)?
@@yadsewnde I loved it. I was in the theater thinking "how the F did you get me to feel bad for a giant alien space mind control starfish? The same way you got me to to cry for a tree who says 'we are groot' James Gunn you crafty crafty dude"
It did the trick though
@@yadsewnde He didnt say Starro had only one line
In the film, that was the most perfect line... 1 sentence with no weight given to it by the cast, almost a throwaway line and it completely transformed Starro and made me tear up... damn you Gunn
Fun story: James Gunn came up with the title by just slapping "The" onto Suicide Squad as a joke, but the producers absolutely loved it so he went with it.
I see this comment in almost every "the suicide squad" related video😅
@@Pistaaaachios wow this is the fun fact
The people who released 3 versions of JL and 2 versions of BVS absolutely loved the idea of making another Suicide Squad with roughly the same characters?
NO WAY!
Not a fun but a semi-interesting fact: when we see Harley Quinn do that thing where she grabs the key with her feet and opens the lock, the actress (Margot Robbie) actually does that by herself all the way to opening that lock. And now that I told you that fact, remember the scene in The Wolf of Wall Street where she "shows the goods" to DiCaprio's character? And now you are probably wondering how she would perform in bed (insert the DiCaprio meme from that movie where he bites his fist because she's so hot). You're welcome.

Gunn: Weird flex but I thought we could be a little original. You still get your faceless and soulless army trope.
WB execs: But my sky beam.
The sheer amount of sorrow in Producers voice as he says "why would you say that" was a masterclass in acting lol

Yes it is!!!!!
I like how even Ryan has to acknowledge how impressive it was they made Starro a sympathetic character
A single line is all it took to get me from 'Ah ah, take this alien!' to ' Oh...'
it wasn't just that line though, the video clip shows it tied down while the astronauts laugh and joke around when the squad first gets there it says that the Brain has been torturing it for thirty years.

The way Producer Ryan says "Captain Boomerang" is positively delightful.
Actually did have fun shutting my brain off for this movie, it earned it's suspension of disbelief. This actually felt like a fun, irreverent, ensemble anti-hero movie. The starfish was a McGuffin, the real Justice League could have swooped in at anytime if it became a problem, easy to kill. But it was the data that was the real climax, even has the most intense fight of the movie, and where the limits of the team are broken. I think that was actually a clever bit of writing, and it made its impact bc of the chemistry the team is given throughout the movie. B movie, and that's a compliment compared to what I think of the rest of the DC films in the last decade.
Honestly, that probably would've been even better. If the Justice League swooped in to fight Starro and that fight was just the backdrop while the Squad to go after each other trying to secure the drive.

@@spipsdew6157 That's actually brilliant... except that I would've had the silhouettes appear and then see the rats crawling all over Starro, then have them comically pull back. LOL.
"oh so it's kind of moral dilemma, do you kill them or are they innocent because they are being controlled by Starro?"
Bloodsport: *So anyways I start blasting*
I mean yes. Besides Ratcatcher 2 they would have just kill the people, they are the friggin bad guys.
They’re dead underneath. They even show half a corpse still moving because the star is controlling it. Despite the person clearly being dead.
@@mrshmuga9 Yeah that was a lame move by Gun. Would have been cooler if they just were controlled like in the comics
What moral dilemma? They're villains. Killing people without remorse should be no problem
@@mrshmuga9 I mean, Bloodsport didn't see that, so you can assume he doesn't care if they're alive or not.
This movie is a masterpiece. It’s such a shame that it didn’t do well at the box office.
i loved it, much originality in it. made me not care about details or inconsistencies of wich there where a lot.
@@AxelHenx there weren't inconsistencies. The movie is consistent, much unlike your spelling and grammar.
@@palpatinesboi9549 In his opinion, there were. There's no need for you to be unkind.

Wow, this is one of the best DCEU movies and somehow they won’t get money like they would’ve pre-pandemic.
I hope we still get more movies like this one.
I think DCEU is dead though. It's just DC movies now and it's so much better.
@@woj8926 the movies outside the main universe don’t count as DCEU?
@@jlupus8804 well I think you could technically still count The Suicide Squad as part of DCEU as it's a soft continuation of the first one but to me given that the tone of it was 100% different to other movies with the R rating, there never was a plan to tie it in with PG-13 Justice League other than few easter eggs in Peacemaker. Then you have Joker and The Batman which are completely standalone movies, not sure what's the deal with Black Adam but with Cavill, Afleck and now Miller gone I don't think we will see more of shared universe in DC.
@@woj8926 No we will: Shazam 2, Aquaman 2, it’s easier to have a main universe to bounce other characters off of sometimes.
Also, I’d def count The Batman and Joker as part of the “Extended” universe, even if they’re in other universes, tho DC could have other thoughts on that.
That whole saving Rick flag scene is the perfect definition of "Whoops whopsie" 😂
Like seriously how did no one hear the commotion outside or sound an alarm. The Squad weren’t very stealthy
Best part. I literally cried laughing in the theater. Peacekeeper: "I've got a clear shot on the only one in the building." Shows a housekeeper with virtually no threat xD John Cena found his character.
I totally forgot about that XD I remember finding that hilarious in the theater. I think it was smaller jokes like this that got me more than anything.
Yup, aaaaaand... he's dead
@@bad_musician did you watch after the credits?
I expected him to take the shot!
Bloodsport: "you're in tighty whiteys"
Peacemaker:" OK that's just racist"
The point of suicide squad is lesser known b-c tier villains acting as cannon fodder.
King shark is a demigod, and would destroy killer kroc.
Also to do things that would be an international incident if the government or military got caught doing it.
@@jamescallanan2443 yeah, it’s that they are expenadable. Much more then hero’s. Also if hero’s were sent in the missions they wouldn’t do what Waller wants.
That ridiculous thing is a demigod?😳

Yeah, King Shark, in this universe, is tough enough to go a few rounds with Aquaman.
3:18 God damn it lol the way he says "that's the funny number!"
7:21 Got me too lol "why would you say that?"
"tents are known for being soundproof!!"
So many lines in this that kill me dude 😂😂😂
Kinda feel that was a missed opportunity; "Soundproof tents are TIGHT!"
No . No they are not. You realize this especially when you are depressingly single on a college camping trip with several couples.
“And Say Stuff Like 69.” “That’s The Funny Number!” LOL😂
4:40 “so what color is the sky beam”
I had to literally paused the video and started dying of laughter
I kind of want someone to make a movie someday where the protagonist pretty much blasts through a dozen movie plots in like, an hour, just because they don't wait until the last minute to use the full extent of their power.
Fun fact: James gunn was gonna add a character from DC comics called dogwelder(A guy with a blowtorch who attaches the faces of dogs to people)to the suicide squad but changed his mind.
Wasn't Dogwelder from Section 8 in the Hitman series? That series was like a precursor to The Boys.
He probably changed his mind because he was afraid of John Wick
oh god no please, it was already tough to watch a dozen of birds die
Someone please enlighten comic book writers to the basics of biology, physics, chemistry, nuclear physics, medicine etc. Blowtorches and biological tissue don't really mix well.
@@TF2CrunchyFrog who says he uses the blowtorch to attach dog faces? Maybe he has surgical equipment and doesn’t care if people die of tissue rejection
The uneasy look given after he say’s that anybody can die is “just like real life” was gold
"I understand the joke, Sir, I just hate it" Would love to use that line on my annoying boss.
Keep us updated. I want to know if that works.
"So what color is the sky beam gonna be?”, that had me rolling.
Killing off your favorite characters is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
You should have said killing off your favorite characters is tight
I was hoping captain boomerang would have a cool moment but they just killed him :(
Isayama: yes
*cries in Peter Capaldi*
I just wanted ONE Doctor Who reference and for the Thinker to be a final boss villian or a main suicide squad member you never knew how far ahead they thought (and if you could trust them). Not to be just a researcher with no action scenes and then dead.
So much money saved
"I was thinking we could get Peter Capaldi, one of the best actors of his generation to play the Thinker, a hyper intelligent meta human"
"Oh, he was phenomenal as the Doctor! What's this character like?"
"Basically a horny imbecile who gives one big exposition and then dies off being ripped apart by a Starfish".
"We sure know how to handle proper talent in our movies".
I think Capaldi was good in the movie, he did a great job portraying thinker as a Smug, Abhorrent monster responsible for countless Atrocities
His character did his job, I think that's enough. Not like he could be redeemed and join the squad anyway(unless Waller arrests him but that's too much of a liability)
They basically did the same think they did with Enchantress and Black Mask. What a waster of a character *sigh*
@@space1734 wasting characters is tight.
His exposition was very well acted tho
"So we'll be adding new characters like Nanaue who is essentially a shark version of Groot"
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, he gives one liner and is adorable. The kids will love him"
"Kids loving killer humanoid sharks is tight!"
Yeah it is!
Haa.👍
Except he’s kind of the opposite of Groot. Groot had okay intelligence but basically non existent vocabulary. Nanaue had okay vocabulary but basically non existent intelligence.
King Shark was more like The Hulk considering he is the strongest and dumbest, especially when Bloodsport told him...Monster Nom Nom. lol
Street Sharks movie has gotta be in the pipe at this point
Wesley Snipes - Blade trilogy, would be a fun one to have a pitch meeting for, with all the inconsistences throughout
