Suicide Squad wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but most people can agree that Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn was a standout. So it’s only natural that Hollywood wanted to feature her in another movie! Rather than a straight up solo movie, Warner Bros has delivered Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) which is… pretty much a Harley Quinn movie.
The film raises a lot of questions. Like why don’t any of Harley’s enemies use their guns? Where is the Joker and all the other Gotham villains? Where’s Batman for that matter? How is this Roman Sionus guy running the show? Is this the first comic book movie in which the problem is solved via laxatives? Why is there a hyena?! What is going on?!

To be fair, it _is_ supposed to show how _Harley_ sees Gotham and its people. Granted, it's a very different Harley, but it has _some_ logic to it. It would be nice if they showed the difference a few times, though.

I honestly thought that was part of the joke. She has the most interesting backstory and plays every cliche with a woman in her position that we seen in a bunch of movies, from the black outfit, to the motorcycle, to the tough one liners. Yet every character undermines her, much to her annoyance.

Although yes, Harley Quinn should have had her own movie and Huntress should've gotten the spotlight here, along with everything else wrong, I want to note that Cassandra Cain in the comics was trained from birth by a master assassin to interpret human movement as a language, making her almost mute and illiterate but superhuman in fights, setting her up to be the most dangerous Batgirl in a fight.
So they just kind of dredged up the name to ruin that for any fans who might recognize it.
Yeah, they might as well just named the character Lois Lane.

this is absolutely how major studio movies are made today. "screen writing" is only for small/indie movies now where the writer can "be true to their vision". It's all marketing department decisions today coupled with screen test audiences. they want to make money, not a piece of art.

Basically she says she knows she inherited her mothers powers and they also talk about her mother in general fighting crime and dying in the process.

Renee Montoya was disregarded too. She is supposed to be the most "by the book" cop in Gotham, unwilling to accept any form of compromise with evildoers like Harley.
Renee would willingly choose breaking over bending and so the harley team up would end up at best with Renee betraying Harley at the very first opportunity. Mostlikely Renee wouldn't have believed Harley at all.
