The Wraith is a fantastic medium 'Mech that a lot of commanders really enjoy fielding and buying. Yeah, techs hate working on the damn things, but we have learned how they work, and we have to since they are now so common.

I love the stats of the Wraith, and for decades have hated how ot looked.
But, it's so distinctive! It took a long time, but the aesthetic is growing on me. I finally grabbed a mini of one a couple weeks ago

I really like the Wraith (TR1) but my younger brother (who just hit the big 50 this year) LOVES it as his absolute favorite Mech!
It's my second favorite IS mech... right behind the thug.
I just turned 50 and just got my first Wraith! LOL
Thanks for the video, Professor! It’s always nice when someone shines a light on the lesser known chassis romping around in the Inner Sphere. Wraiths can be downright monstrous with enough tinkering. It’s by far my favorite mech in BTA3062, and is still a solid light hunter or heavier recon design as-is.

The TR6 Wraith has to be my favorite of the bunch. Basically a TR5 but replaces the Improved Jump Jets with standard models and a Partial Wing, making it slightly cooler, even without the reduced heat the improved models are known for, and an additional 30 meters of jump distance. (This model, as well as the TR4, TR4X, and TR7, were mentioned in Shrapnel #17, so they hadn't entered Sarna as of yet.)
@@jamesbeard5513 I honestly haven't touch most Shrapnel because I don't want to support most of the writers in it, who are terrible human beings.
CGL needs to do better.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn Um, what controversy do most of the writers have? Aside from Pardoe, whom was fired for right wing views, I don't really know most of their personal history.
I will say that I noticed Bryan Young trying to tie white with 'blood thirsty' Clanner in the first chapter of Lone Wolf and Fox using Marena the new head of the Alyina Mercantile League and an extremely boring writer know as Julian Michael Carver.
I really like the Wraith for its limited roles, its just a shame those roles can't easily be expanded a bit with either more firepower or some EW capability.
Going for a snub and er meds will give some weight to play with, but I dislike the loss of the pulses or er ppc so the only change I always order is to work in some battle armour handholds, with that big engine and stack of jets the Wraith is almost as good as the Viper as a battle taxi.
We have altogether too many of the IWraith's that have voided warrantees. Our Corporate Security and Affiliated Mercenaries love to jailbreak the OS. We have had one unfortunate incident where a pilot jailbroke and replaced the operating system with one from a Reaver. Still not sure where he went.
En Tauria we have half a dozen hydroelectric dams that have used Curtiss systems for centuries. It's almost impossible to find compatible drivers that can still talk to the system. Imagine our surprise when we figured out you could use a Wraith to talk to the dam.
@@christopherpurches2774 We had to hire a group of guys and gals from Macintosh a couple of months ago because corporate security units have been showing up with more and more Apple-certified parts. There is a program where Apple is supposed to send you documents and training material for their stuff, but that is an investment as well...
@@teehasheestower At least Wraiths are not rare, so you have a chance of getting things going. Imagine if it could only talk to a Yeoman...

Oh, you can find all the information you need on Paradise... assuming you have detailed maps to compare it with the current irradiated locations...
I'm questioning the use of Inner Sphere pulse lasers especially the LPL but swap in clan tech ones and it's scary.
Also yet another design where the stupidly large engine to fast means it would actually have more available mass if you shrunk it down by 5 tons
@@spencerjones841 The Wraith doesn't suffer as much from being overengined as other designs, strangely enough.
@@ProfessorHeyTeeEn going down to 50 tons buys no less than 2.5 extra tons of extra mass.
Whats not to love about the wraith :-) fast as a light mech...has pulse lasers so hits often...is fairly tough due to no ammo :-) a favourite medium of mine especially for hunting those fast light clan mechs :-) edited for spelling lol
It can be used in multiple roles, but all of them are good.

Mmmhmmmm. Mixed feelings on the Wraith, Professor! Like many IS responses to the Clans that didn't really meet the mark but were still "advanced" so hung around. Looking forward to this - might change my opinion!
EDIT: I feel like you were more indifferent on this design, either holding the punches or really not leaning either way on the design. I guess I just feel that it is indeed fast and ok armored, but too under-armed for its weight in this time period. Money to Impact doesn't balance in my book.
I am surprised the Wobies didn't use a small cockpit.
You gotta watch out for Apple's tricks. I didn't realize why they had that sticker covering the bolt for the pilot chairs lumbar adjustment motor box till it was too late... lost the warranty on my whole Blackjack.... 😢
For a modern Wraith, I would love to see endo, ferro, a clan xl or IS light engine, er ppc, 2 clan small pulse, 2 clan medium lasers, and extra double heat sinks. Maybe cut the engine down as needed.
It’s very much a specialized mech that might not fit into a lot of common battlefield roles. But as others have mentioned, it is fast and decently armored, and has an accurate weapons loadout that can immediately threaten light mechs that rely on speed to stay alive. It is also speedy enough to bring that arsenal to bear on said light mechs. This fits the bill for many early clan Omnis, such as the Firemoth. When needed, it can also be an agile threat to the rear armor of heavier assets.
Fun watch. Though I am a bit sad the 4 Shrapnel variants that came out last month were not covered.

With its speed, Jump Jets, and Pulse Lasers I think its trying to copy the clan's Viper medium omnimech.
The Wraith is more or less a showcase for Pulse Lasers. An Extended Range Large Laser and Particle Projection Cannon would be much better "main guns". Yeah I just don't like Inner Sphere Pulse Lasers in general. Small Pulse Lasers(that the Wraith doesnt carry) are at least useful in their niche. I treat those as an alternate to Flamers and as an upgrade to Small Lasers.
Right now I can develop a custom Wraith using an Extended Range PPC/LL as its main gun, 2 Extended Range Medium Lasers, and 2 Small Pulse Lasers. Thats more of a generalist.
The most interesting thing about the Wraith is probably its look. Its got a big hood over the cockpit. Its either brilliant protection, or foolish as it would produce tunnel-vision in the pilot.
I see even in the far future Apple is still making overpriced proprietary parts.

Hey Professor, I've got an interesting mech to tinker with! It's a 55-ton Medium Quad that resembles a Lupine shape. It's got a small cockpit but it's fitted in 12 tons of light Ferro (this thing can tank an AC20 anywhere but the head and back!) and normally has a 275 XL engine, so it's running around at 81kph. It also has a rotation ring and mount for a turret on it's back (right torso) and mounts for weapons under the chest (left torso), and we figure it can carry up to 24.5 tons of equipment and plenty of space (22 spaces). What kind of role would this thing suit, you think? What weapons could we try out, and would it be worthwhile to downgrade the engine to a Light or even Standard?
@@Kepora1 Quad with a turret in the 55 tons range, I would probably mount some Heavy PPC or something similar on the turret. XL engines on Quad mechs are a problem since you sacrifice more of the rare space in your side torsos, so a Light engine might be better.
