Customer Stated took Jeep in for Oil Change and that Dealership said Needed Inner TieRods, Customer took it to a Guy she knows and said He would do the work, But when parts were ordered, Ordered Remanufactured Rack and Pinion, Front Driver and Passenger Side Strut and a Passenger Side CV Axle.
Was Going to Cost around $1,500 to fix.
Told her to bring Jeep to me and let me check it out and all it needs is Passenger Strut and Passenger CV Axle.
I replaced Driver and Passenger Side Front Strut Assembly and Passenger Side CV Axle and was Taken to Local Shop to have 4 Wheel Alignment that also Confirmed didn't need Inner Tie Rods or a Rack and Pinion.

Super helpful video! Helped me replace the CV shaft yesterday. Couple things that might help others -
4:28 mark was a 32mm socket, at least on my 2012 Patriot.
I had much better luck with sharp, sudden pulls of the CV shaft when I was ready to take it out. Was easier than slow, heavy pulls. I live in the rust belt, so that could have something to do with it.
I had issues getting the top of the strut, strut & CV, and sway bar all connected at the same time. For me, it worked better to connect the strut entirely top & bottom but not connect the sway bar. I left it off, reassembled the wheel, then let the jack down. Then I could reach behind the tire and connect the sway bar. The weight of the car moved the connection lower and much more tolerable.
Also, I leaked some transmission fluid so be sure to check that.
Thank you 😊
I hope the mechanic in this video sees my dilemma and confirms my suspicion on the damaged axle
Hard to believe 😂😂😂 wow.. I have changed the sub frame rack both axles and my mechanic changed the passenger side axle which is not a straight axle it's a 3 jointed one to allow for the movement when on the throttle or bumps.. my mechanic changes the axle and forgot to tighten the ball joint nut and cotter pin.. and it tore in half... IS IT SAFE TO REPAIR THE TORN JOINT ON YOUR OWN?? Helll nooo but that's what he's doing and now I have to buy ANOTHER ONE and go to a different shop.. I am not dying on the highway over a phucing AXLE that's Jerry rigged together on a FRONT wheel drive Jeep
So yours had an intermediate shaft but you only changed the out cv axle? Mine is the same and im considering changing both to fix the clunking.
@fabiangomez357
Yeah I only changed the one Side but other side looked OK and wasn't making any noise.
But if yours is clunking while turning sharp,
I would also replace both sides
Don't forget to have Alignment done afterwards.
plz let us know the size of wheels and tires they look relly good
My compass has the one with the long shaft, it was the first time i see one like that
Did you have any problems with an abs ring? The ones i find online for a reasonable price all say no abs ring included. Is the abs tone ring in the wheel hub or on the cv axle?
I'm pretty sure none of the Axles have ABS ring on them for the Jeep Patriot.
If you watch the Video and see the Axle I removed , it doesn't have ABS ring on the Old Axle, But the Jeep does have ABS and has Front ABS sensors.
@sartingarage8045 Yeah, I looked and didn't see one. I was confused because of the way it's listed online. Thank you, I appreciate your reply. Definitely following.
Is this the same for a 2009 Jeep patriot??
Most likely yes
If it's front wheel drive
Links to Axles are in Description
Then will ask you to confirm fit
Type in your vehicle info
Will tell you if they fit
I changed the axcels in my jeep and now she shakes like crazy when u take off...nobody knows why...everything was great with her til that was done
@janniemilburn
This one did the same thing
Took it for Alignment
Went away
Did you get it aligned after installing Axles?
If not take it to the Chrysler Dealership and have it aligned.
You can take it to a local shop if you want, But I've never had any luck with them doing the alignment correctly.
I started taking mine to Dealership of that brand vehicle to get aligned. No issues with the dealers. Only cost like $30 more or so.
@@sartingarage8045 yes I got her alignment but still the same
What Axles did you install
There maybe an issue with them
Alot of them are rebuilt
@@sartingarage8045 we changed them 3 times...they are the right ones so the jeep dealership said
That's strange
But I'm thinking maybe motor mounts or Transmission mount as when you go to pull out mounts are allowing engine or transmission to flex to much putting New Axles in a bind.
Old axles were probably worn enough the flex in mounts didn't affect it.
Not saying this is what is wrong
But can check them
Helps to have 2 people do this
Lift hood
Have one person watch the engine
2nd person start the jeep
Hold brake
Put in reverse
As your holding break
Give just a little throttle so other person can see how much the engine moves side to side
Do this in reverse and drive
A little bit is OK
But if it's alot of movement
Replace mounts
Watcsize at :4:28
Axle Nut Socket I'm pretty sure was 30mm.
What year is this v-hickle?
