Impressive camera that doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves. If Kinefinity were to build out its distribution channels, particularly in the US, and ramp up production it would displace some RED/Canon/Sony cine clients.
It would be immensely useful to pick and shoot some scenarios side by side with say RED and look at the footage comparatively, so people can see color and quality comparisons.
This camera deserves that.
It's a slow process, but they are making huge leaps. Distribution throughout Europe is now pretty solid. They also have a whole new factory up and running which has done wonders for stock availability and reduced wait time right down.
They are working on distribution throughout the US and other territories as the next step. So hopefully the brand will just continue to grow and grow.
But the biggest thing that will do that is happy customers and users who shout about how great their cameras are!

My main problem is that Sony, Arri and Canon has service centers in nearly every country in every continent.
If something is wrong I don't want to send it to where ever they are and wait 8 weeks before I get my camera back.
That is holding me back more than the distribution.
@@annekedebruyn7797 Well in the UK, customers just have to deal directly with us, not with Kinefinity. We repair in house. Sure, its not service centres all around the world, but its quicker and more convenient for our customers than lots of other brands!

trevorpinnocky It’s the Android of cinema cameras.
Kinefinity's best selling point for me is their colour science. There's something organic and hard to describe about the image out of camera, something film-like. Similar to the vibes you get our of Arri cameras. Damn I like the kinefinity look, the high fps and anamorphic offerings are nice too.
We need more reviews and info on Kinefinity Cameras. I subscribed to this channel in my quest to find out more about these cameras. Thanks for videos so far. It's because of you that I am going to purchase one.

Bang for Buck Kinefinity Terra is a clear winner. The lens adaptors, the frame rates, dual native ISO, price and the list goes on. Also love the fact that updates are readily available to improve your hardware instead having to purchase an entirely new camera. Also Pro AV can you do some videos on their Lens Line as well?
We will definitely be looking at their lens line up in more detail. We have only just had our first units arrive though, so it is very early days yet for the lenses.

Hello, I'm from Poland, I have terra 4K. I have a problem with red and black vertical stripes in recordings, they show up mainly in bright areas of the image, in proress 422HQ they appear on the left side, and in DNG there is only one bar on the right. Does anyone know what this could be? I did black calibrations and then the same.
Hello Carl I know this video is pretty old also the camera, but I have a question for you, If you could get this camera today (Terra 4k) second-hand in good condition at the same price as a Lumix GH6 would you go for it??? I do understand that if you reply to me is your personal opinion no problems with that, I just want to know your opinion since you have tried both cameras and you also have a lot of experience in filmmaker/videographer gear, thanks in advance.
Honestly, unless you need a high frame rate @ 4K and/or a larger sensor... just buy the BMPCC 4K for 1/3rd the price.
Honestly, they have similar specs but designed for different targets, they're at different leagues.
The Terra 4K also has interchangeable lens mounts, so its much easier to use common lens options on it. The build / design of the camera is much easier to rig up with accessories. It fits much better into a cinematic environment than the pocket 4K. The image from the Pocket 4K is great, but physically its only really suited to using in a handheld point and shoot style.

Onboard 2.5" SSD Slot alone is worth it.
I own the pocket. Saying it feels like a toy is complete nonsense. It does compete on image quality but the target audiences in terms of workflow are just different.
I agree though that the pocket 4k is priced well below where it would be if it were released by someone else, say Canon. It's value is realistically closer to $3-$3.5k especially considering it comes with a full blown professional grading software suite.
Protip: watch intro with separate speakers or headphones. Makes a huge difference. Music ID?
Great video. I'd like to see a bit more of how menus look and work. I've now owned an Ursa mini for 2 years and everything else, from a menu standpoint, is garbage.
In my opinion the menus on the Blackmagic Ursa Mini pro are some of the best in the industry. BM really know good UI.

This looks like a really strong option for smaller budget cinema production. If they had distribution and repair centers in the western US, I would all over this camera.

If I mount a lens that covers the APS-C sensor of a DSLR what will be the result on this sensor? Just a slight additional crop in field of view from 1.6 to 1.8 crop factor? Or I need some kind of adapter?

Hi Paolo, yes you're correct with the crop factor calculations.
Iris will work but Autofocus will not, the Terra 4K is a fully manual cinema camera

There are rumors that the Terra 4k and the bmpcc4k (and the GH5s) all share the same sensor, though it seems that the Terra 4k has some sort of tweaks because it can pull 75fps out of it. Do you notice any differences in dynamic range between the Terra 4k and the BMPCC 4k?
The sensor itself is only one part of the picture, the processing, heat management etc. is also incredibly important.
I havent directly compared, but specifically in terms of dynamic range I would say they are fairly similar. Maybe tuned slightly differently, the Terra might have a slightly softer highlight roll off.. but we would have to do more side by side comparisons to really tell.

What I fail to understand is why for example in the intro shots of the waterfalls/snow, the ISO must be so high at 3200? Is this camera really poor in low light? And I wouldn't say that was a low light situation. I guess for me the crunch comes with cameras which can perform in low light, will also be good in blazing sun the reverse is not necessarily true. I've got a BM, I'm shooting in the dark with just headlamps or custom night lights, spiders, custom optics, lots of glass but I can easily use 200-400 ISO and that's not with some crazy shutter angle and like noise is basically non existent. I'm looking at these Kinefinity cameras but not convinced just yet. I mean it's good to see the native 3200 shots but what of lower ISOs? Please show some night time footage street light lit lane ways with structure etc. That's what will help convince me. or rig it to a microscope and shoot something, say at 200 to 500 max at X 20. At 4K if there isn't any noise with a well exposed subject then we might consider these cameras??
There are several reasons for this, the first of which is the higher frame rates being used is lowering the exposure. The second of which is that there was a very mean storm looming overhead whilst we were shooting that scene, and it wasn't actually as bright as you see in the video so we used the second native ISO to help achieve a more desirable exposure. We are looking at sharing more footage from the TERRA 4K (that isn't snow!) so keep an eye out for that.

Another great video, well done. I am wondering whether one can tweak the colours in camera when not using RAW to get more neutral/accurate reds? The shift to orange seems quite strong, especially on that scooter behind you in your other comparison video and in other examples seen around the Web. Thank you.
No, theres no picture settings in camera i'm afraid. The Kinefinity cameras always record in log. It is very easy to change the colours in resolve though as the files grade really nicely.

Can you use another monitor with it like an Atomos Ninja or Shinobi? I assume so but would like to check?
There is a HDMI port on the body itself in addition to Kinefinitys own monitoring ports, so you can use any HDMI monitor. You can also get SDI outputs though the Kineback, we go into more detail on the whole system here: th-cam.com/video/h-sNmCxwXvE/w-d-xo.html

yeah, it is ursa mini pro price level sort of, but this terra 4k little cube with onboard 2.5" ssd slot is a winner regardless. move over canon, sony et al.

@@FarizTGK sure, but I've heard and scene a lot of reviews say that the bmpcc4k doesn't have the good colors black magic is known for and that it has a very digital feel to it
@@leecason9468 I don't know about that. I still think the colors are there, but it's the crispness of the 4k that kinda negates the dense film texture of the original Pocket. I own the P4K, and love it. But that original Pocket has a charm about it that makes it a potentially tempting purchase still.
I saw Philip Bloom post something about a new firmware update due the Terra allowing higher frame rates in 4K. Anyone know the detail of that? And would it be possible to record raw to an Atomis or other recorded? I’m debating between this (or the Mavo) and the new Ursa Mini G2. Any more insights on this one would be nice
If lowlight isnt that important to you, then get the G2. But if you want smaller size and internal prores and raw recording capability on SSDs, then get terra maybe. If you are interested join the kinefinity facebook group for more info.
There is an upcoming firmware update for the TERRA 4K which is going to be able to get some much higher frame rates out of the camera, we did a quick interview with the CEO of Kinefinity at NAB this year: th-cam.com/video/3EWioRAxuLM/w-d-xo.html and Kinefinity are developing their own RAW format called KineRAW 2.0, which is a single file compressed RAW format which can be recorded internally, so there isn't really a need for recording externally with Kinefinitys cameras. We're definitely looking forward to getting our hands on a URSA Mini Pro G2 as well as testing the new higher framerates on the TERRA 4K once the firmware is finalised.

It seems like all the dealers are in the UK or China which isn't a problem I want to be able to speak with someone in English if a problem occurred with the camera...… And thanks for the great review I think this would be a nice camera to pair with my canon eos-r...….
Had the same issue but after some research I discovered that Pro AV is an authorized dealer. They are based in the UK and they speak English. That's where I will be purchasing mine from. I live in the Caribbean.

And everyone is talking about bmcp4k and the quality is great on it but it reminds me to much of the sony sensors with the over sharpened look and I know you can tweak it but the kinefinity has that smooth buttery look that reminds me of film with hi-res slow motion.....
Kinefinity need to improve here, dramatically, if they hope to penetrate the US market. Shooters will want local supply and local technical support.
Kinefinity also need to flush out their raw options and improve stability and accessibility to kit.
The longer they wait, the longer cameras like the pocket 4k (which will soon have 2 flavors of raw) and UMP 4.6k will erode their potential market.

The sensor sounds really similar to the GH5s sensor with the crop factor and dual base ISOs.
They are probably based off the same sensor, but the sensor is only part of the picture. Processing, heat management and software are just as important really

jesus you guys are quick. Hope they release the new firmware(with side panel enabled) before you guys do the mavo lf review.
We are beta testing the new firmware at the moment. So there will be some B-Roll with it in.. however it is not a finished firmware so will probably change by release, so we won't highlight it much.
