      Muyang Cheng actually you’re wrong. Battleships started to show up as a term in the 1880’s to 1890’s. It started with ironclad battleships, but then it turned to battleships. Nice video, although I would have preferred the title "Warship Length Comparison", since ship size is generally measured by displacement. There is a reason why the Yamato is considered the largest battleship of all time, despite being shorter than the Iowas. Same with Enterprise and her younger cousins, longer, but lighter and therefore smaller in size.

    • @Frenchfrys17
      @Frenchfrys17 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @hickspaced Yet the German U boats sunk a grand total of ZERO British Battleships. They were still very useful for any naval operation that required staying power. Much more so than heavy cruisers. Most naval vessels are gone from one torpedo. Battleships on the other hand generally require an entire operation to take them out.

    • @Frenchfrys17
      @Frenchfrys17 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @hickspaced Devoting more resources to other projects does always translate to an equal amount of total gain. Japans ability to improve their army was not just limited by resources but also by their engineering ability and experience.
      The usefulness of Battleships did not die with the introduction of the Aircraft Carrier. It was made more niche, sure, but conventional Battleships did not become obsolete until the introduction of Ballistic Missiles and especially nuclear weapons.
      Yet many people can also argue that these newer missiles are also making Aircraft carriers obsolete.

A gunship was a lot smaller, lighter and faster than the Victory for example: USS Alliance in 1875

    • @stanleyramsrud5204
      @stanleyramsrud5204 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The statement that Enterprise was the only ship to survive it is ABSOLUTELY false. None of the carriers were there the day of the attack, they were out on a training exercise or something like that, so that part is correct. But many of the US ships (basically anything that wasn't a battleship) that actually was in the harbor survived the attack with only light to moderate damage, and many smaller vessels weren't even damaged at all. The Japanese pilots were overzealous and glory hungry so they focused FAR too many of their attacks on the battleships, they should have spread their attacks out to include the vital port infrastructure like shipbuilding and repair facilities, the fuel and munitions depots, and the airfields (which, to their credit, they did take out), and also the smaller and far more modern light cruisers that would go on to be vital to winning many battles later in the war.

    HMS VIctory is 227'6". She's a first-rate ship of the line. Yes USS Constitution, a (barely) third-rate is longer but this had more to do with hull shape and speed. In the original book, Master and Commander, the enemy ships are American and Captain Aubrey is looking at the hull form of an American third-rate which is longer, narrower, and faster.
    Constitution was well armored for what she would come up against and couldn't flee, hence her nickname, but a first-rate would have blown her to splinters if she couldn't outrun it. This is why she was built to be fast.

    The fact that no US carriers show up until the end is hilarious.

    3:05, I like how the Russian aircraft carrier is pretty similar to the carrier of the Chinese.

      The Liaoning was an aircraft carrier the chinese bought from the russians with this similar design, therefore it isnt too much of a stretch to say they reverse engineered its specs for their new aircraft carrier seen here.

      Not actually. "The Chinese carrier is similar to Russian one" - a proper variant.

      These are two twin aircraft carriers. Both are built in the USSR but one remained in Ukraine (then sold to China, there got a new name) one of Ukraine was secretly taken out (after the collapse of the aircraft carrier captain Admiral Kuznetsov, extinguishing the running lights and not warning the dispatchers, left the port and sailed to Russia)

      @@wertushka2715 yeah and if he had not done so, Kuznetsov would have suffered the same fate and have been sold by Ukraine to China at the price of scrap metal - like they did in case of 'Varyag"
