  • After months of speculation and attempted deals, Porsche's attempts at joining the F1 grid are over. But after a deal to buy 50% of Red Bull collapsed and potential arrangements with McLaren and Williams went nowhere, how did Porsche mess up its chance of entering F1 so badly?

It's not that they were scared, but Porsche is already successful and if they were ever to enter F1™ they would want a change in the regulations so that they could adapt racing parts from their Formula racecars to their product lineup, something they've done over the years, even with the modified LMP1 EVO. They would also want to use the flat-six engine that they've been using since the early 1960s as opposed to the turbocharged 90° V6 DOHC.

When it asked for 50% of Red Bull, it knew what it was doing - either it was going to acquire a motorsports technical base like no other, which would have been worth it, or it was going to carry on with the nice problem it has…trying to meet the outrageous demand for its cars!

I wonder why Porsche didn't just invest in the Formula 2-4 teams. I mean since a lot of drivers start ranking up from the lower series, if Porsche bought up the lower teams and invested like Redbull (I think Redbull has a Formula 3 sponsorship or team), they might be able to force their way into F1 eventually, with enough influence in the lower racing leagues.

Seems like Porsche had their heads up their asses thinking the brand was stronger and F1 teams would welcome any deal with them.
I mean maybe a lower tier team could take the deal but a team like RB don't really need anyone from the outside. RB has success, money, strong brand, great car and more. I guess the only thing a team like RB is missing is being tied to an actual road car.

And now the teams and the FIA might end Andretti's attempt to join F1 just because they don't want to split the revenue sharing again to add another team. And this is despite the fact that GM is going to make engines under the new regs in the next few years, and the rumor mill began linking Andretti and GM. If Andretti can't get in, GM will likely just end up being the engine supplier for one of the other teams. One would think a new team, with a new engine supplier, would actually increase the amount of money that ends up getting split, but it seems like the existing teams would rather keep things as they are, and possibly one of the lower tier teams might try to get a hold of the upcoming GM engines for themselves.
