Formula One is actively attempting to avoid an image of an "Orgy of Excess". Rather than relying solely on unique-fit equipment an effort was made to make sustainability and portability core tenets of the racing paradigm. ("We COULD burn six-hundred kilos of petrol very race with minimal concern, but SHOULD we?")
These engines, these tyres, these construction principles are engaging in customer vehicles all over the planet.
Manufacturers needed to understand high-speed racing areodynamics to get the new ones to stay in a pack-our pilots have provided brilliant moments of unbelievable racing at every Grand Prix.

Formula One does not have a budget problem. There is money for everything. Spending hundreds of millions on "old school racers" with huge, unregulated engines, and burning tons of fuel and tyres is not the best look this sport could afford.
Regulating high-tech engines, limiting the fuel, managing tyres and budgets gives the fan the impression that these teams have rules within which to work, which makes the teams more like the casual fan.
I think banning the Dual-Axis Steering was a mistake. Give the pilots more direct control, now that the aero packages run together would mean we could look at dropping Drag Reduction System.

If they made the cars smaller that would help the agility, you could keep the safety and hybrid. The cars would get lighter and the mass would be more centralised and would give more chance of overtakes on the tighter tracks. They could go somewhere in-between on the wheels, they jumped from 13" to 18" which has made the cars so much less compliant. Why not a 15/16" that might be more of a happy medium.

  • @Ricky911_
    @Ricky911_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

I honestly don't think removing the hybrid component completely is necessary but some of the components should be removed. Having said that, I think many of the aerodynamic components that have been removed these past years. For example, raised noses like the ones before 2014 should come back. Ideally, the aerodynamics should be like the ones in 2008 plus ground effect while also making a few rules to reduce dirty air. V8s are much better engines and they are more reliable than V10s (they also sound better imo) so I'd bring those back too. For the rest, I agree

Shouldn't it be the other way around?
With more weight, you store more kinetic energy, but the wall can only "absorb" a certain amount at a time. So if your car is heavier, it will take longer to convert that kinetic energy into other types of energy, thus reducing the deceleration of the vehicle, and as such reducing the longitudinal G forces on the driver.
Feel free to correct me tho, I'm only using my limited knowledge of physics from my school classes here

refueling would be great. they say it was dangerous, but if they limit it to regular fuel pumps like endurance racing does, that would solve that.
the main reason it was dangerous before is that the pumps were high pressure and locked into place on the car. if that lock wasnt seated right, it would spray fuel everywhere and thats how you get fires like in jos's case.
couple this with smaller front wheels, no drs, more drag and a hybrid system like super formula and you get a car thats substantially lighter.

With carbon-neutral synthetic fuels coming I don’t see any justification for keeping the turbos, unlike the hybrid systems which might still be important for developing technologies that can trickle down to road cars (which is really the whole point of F1).

Draggier cars have already been tried with the previous generation and it was a disaster : compared to 2016, the amount of overtaking manoeuvres halved in 2017. Yes, you will get a stronger tow behind another car, however that is only on a straight. With even more drag, you'll have so much dirty air that following will be impossible in a medium or fast corner. Max seems to have forgotten that draggy cars is the reason why we have DRS in the first place.
That said, I totally agree with him about the cars being too long and too heavy. I, too, would like to see lighter, shorter cars with smaller, narrower tyres.

    • @rogerarruda3674

it was not because the cars were draggier, but because of all the aerodynamic paraphernalia that created a way too turbulent air behind the car. the 2022 reg tried top solve this but I guess the cars are too big and too heavy to take any advantage from the less turbulent air

@@latelierpunk1348 By making the dirty air to be directed up towards the sky from the back wing rather than making it directly go back at towards the car behind. In fact, the 2021 cars had complex aero devices on sidepods and on front wing which created vortices to produce downforce, producing so much turbulence behind. The new floor on the other hand makes streamlined perfect clean air comparatively relying on the Bernoulli principle instead of vortices generation, like an inverted plane wing. However at the same time cars got heavier because of the new tyres, negating whatever the advantage gained from aero change.
