Compare to how he sounds at the end to his 1930 Paramount recordings.
      47 year difference. Very interesting

I agree! I wish Blind Willie McTell would have still been around during this era. Sadly, he was gone before I got here.

Makes sense to me. The religious thing. But sometimes, if the spirit hits you, there is no separation. It's life. You do what you know is right.
    Bless you, sir.

The world reveres Robert Johnson as the foremost bluesman, or at least that's the way it seems to me. But there's so many great ones how can we pick who is the #1 best of the best? For me, it's Son House and John Lee Hooker. See, I couldn't just say one. And what about Belton Sutherland? Sonny Boy Nelson? Clyde Maxwell? Sam Chatmon? Napoleon Strickland? I always liked these lesser known bluesmen than Muddy Waters, BB King, or Howlin' Wolf. But truthfully, if I had to choose just one... Oh please don't make me choose!!!

I began listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan years ago, then went backwards, I discovered who his influences were (and their influences etc), and sought them out - Hendrix, Hooker, King, Howlin' Wolf, Leadbelly etc. I'm currently at Charlie Patton, Son House and Blind Lemon Jefferson.

Son is the undisputed king! I own a lot of Son House recordings but I think it's the first time I hear this version of Empire State Express. Can anyone tell me the album it's taken from? I know many versions but this one It's very fast and powerful and I would like to get it. Thank you!

I dont think he died poor,I think he lived a comfortable live life for the last 20/25 years of his life,no doubt he wasnt fully compensated didnt get the Clapton and such riches but he wasnt destitute and homeless like a number who came before him or his contemporaries

Blind Willie Johnson is one of the greats who died a poor man. It was a sad tragic death. But his music is out there, somewhere in The Universe.
