    Just finished a repur and rebuild of this model. They are bulletproof. I totally agree on all your points.

    These Briggs classics are one of the best lawn mowers ever made , not fancy but reliable and durable . Simple to fix and maintain , parts still available I LOVE these mowers . Quality machines that is why they are still around . Change the oil and they will last for ever . I have them and use them for my lawn to .

      Agreed,,, Simple, durable, I totally believe in the statement I made that these are better than the new ones in the same so called class or price point!

    Absolutely correct on those wheel adjusters...took them off. Little wire wheel..trannie fluid and oil...move them around...work Luke a champ

      Thanx,,,I realized I haven't done enough of these engines....I like putting these engines on the cheap new bodies too!
      Gonna do more with these in the future.
      Glad ya watched the 66 vintage tractor stuff! That was fun for me!

    The issue i always seem to have is that i get a lot of surging from these. Even after a rebuild i have trouble getting them just right. Also a tip to get the orimer to work is to pour a tiny amount of gas right down the throat after it sits a kong time ir a after a rebuild. The prime seems tt work after that.

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea,, I do that too,,,I have those little squirt bottles mixed up,2 stroke, regular gas, my tranny mix! Often I start these engines on 2 stroke cuz they haven't been run in sooo long!
      I usually need to drill most carbs because I live on the Island and only a few feet above sea level! Most engines (all new ones) are C.A.R.B. compliant so they are sooo lean!

    I've been having a lot of luck lately with these by simply sucking the old fuel outta the tank, cleaning the tank and a little carb spray straight down the main jet if needed and they fire right up and run great. I had 1 of maybe 6 where there was a pinhole in the tank from rust so I swapped it out, but you can sotter tiny holes shut on these. I like them, old school been around since the 70's in different variations.

      Yup, people did solder these,,,,almost forgot about that...Its good to pop off the carb to clear the jank out the reservoir bowl!
      These are simple, they do the job and will last! Gotta luv E'm

    Arch, what is operating rpm, max rpm and idle rpm for this model?

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its in the video wes,,,toward the end when I explain the throttle mechanism.
      There is NO idle on these models so if ya have an idle/throttle lever then yours is different.
      Idle isn't a good thing to have, if too low the slap oiler system wont deliver oil properly and ya risk wrecking the engine.
      Keep idle high
      max rpm like I said is around 3k, go check out what I said for a better eplanation
      Tanx fer watching
