    We learn not only how to open locks, but also, when required, how to fabricate the tools to do so. Wonderful to watch...

    You see "made in Germany" and then it was so unsatisfactory to see it could be opened that easily, wow😂

      I live in Germany and I can tell you that that lock is ether made for kids, a super cheap lock or from old East Germany. The quality of locks here is VERY high, even for super old ones. Those rivets are very poor quality.

      Yeah, i like the easyness, too. Just two hours lathe work. To open an 60 year old lock. Easy

    You know one of the things that I respect the most about you Bill is the way you take on unusual locks regardless of whether or not you've ever encountered them before. You just dive in and figure it out, and I think that is pretty damn awesome. You often joke around about being educated in public school and play yourself off in a very humble way, but I think the reality is you have a really good head on your shoulders. A lot of people get easily discouraged by the unknown, but you don't. Sure, this lock ended up opening pretty easily once you constructed a tool for it, but you didn't know exactly what was inside it going in. You examined it, experimented with it, and found the solution. Just saying, credit where credit is due, you're a pretty damn sharp guy. Thanks for another interesting video. I hope you keep this channel going for a very, very long time.

    A lever lock disguised as a tubular lock that looks like a lever lock. That's the security right there. Love the thought pattern to work your way through this lock. Thanks for the video Bill : )

    This is not a normal lever lock, this is a simple warded lock (technically, I guess warded locks are "one-lever" lever locks). Warded padlocks are still preferred in some applications because there are no internal moving parts to freeze or corrode in, eg, submerged or foul-weather outdoor use. But their picking resistance sucks. The only "lever" is the shackle release so If you can tension them, they open. I have to say that's still the simplest warded lock I've seen that isn't clearly a toy. Most at least have a more difficult path to the shackle release.

    To be fair, if there was a lock with this mechanism made from far sturdier material, it wouldn't be a bad lock. No one picking your lock will be able to machine a conveniently sized tube of metal to bypass the lock.

  • @Robbe902
    @Robbe902 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Genius sometimes lies in the simplicity of things. If you can not see how complex something is internally built and how to get it done, you've already achieved a lot. (Ok, the padlock would probably have decayed into its parts after 2 hammer blows, but .. does not matter.) ;-)
